Touch U (remix)

Nigels, no, it's not a new direction at all, just a palate cleanser. I have a whole new batch of rock songs in the works. Touch U is a "holiday aftermath interlude"
I did it strictly for fun but I'm going to keep trying to make it better. I've already changed the bass as per Kevin's suggestion. (I kinda dug the clicking sound, but it I agree it was too distracting, so it's gone!) Jesse might like the little bit of lead guitar I added sparingly on the choruses and are also subject to improvement. I've enhanced the overall mix in general but I'm waiting to add any more instruments until the vocals are set in place because I want the singer to create her own vibe and then I'll play some stuff which will interplay with the vocals rather than have her sing around a pre-existing vibe. The singer will help define how much "synth candy" has to be added. Sometimes the lead and backup vocals with interesting effects can be the ear candy. I don't want the final product to get too busy.
We shall see. I'm always open to trying whatever works and losing whatever doesn't.

Hmmm....
Listening now and it is not like anything else you've done, indeed. The lead guitar reminds me a little of Ray Parker's work with Stevie Wonder and the keys remind me of Herbie Hancock's "Rockit"-era sound. Or, more accurately, Yello Magic Orchestra.

It's an interesting piece... and I say "piece" because it's not really a "song", is it?

Honestly, I like it. You use the term "palate cleanser" and I think that's dead on. Sounds like something with which you might start out a Side 2, to sort of reestablish a mood. (Just like a between-course refresher at a fine dinner.)

Not sure if I can add it, but I'll make up my mind after a couple more listens. It is a cool bit of work.

Well, it started out as a "piece" but it seems that the more I add it to it the more it wants to become a song. I was doing a different rock/funk song with a female singer. After the session, I played her Touch U and asked her to just throw on the phrase "I wanna touch you" and she just sang it once. She had to leave so I sampled it and I placed this vocal sample at every chorus. I was eager to post a new song and perhaps I jumpd the gun, but it's cool because the suggestions helped make it better. This was actually the first time I ever posted a work in progress. But now that I see the potential of what it could be, I would like to keep working on it until it becomes a "song". Once the words and vocals are done and a few more things are added, I think that will become a reality.

Since the song is only 2:30, I thought it might be cool to put in some kind of mid-song breakdown that really gets trippy and then bring it back to the main sound again. In any case, it's still evolving and it's fun for me to see it grow. Working on rock songs is so different from working on a song like this. It's a completely different head space for me and it's giving me a chance to take a little vacation from what I usually do. It's very relaxing. I've got several new songs in progress that are all uptempo rockers and I'll soon be attempting to switch gears and finish those monsters.

I need all my mental and pyhsical energies to tackle the other new songs and Touch U has been a nice restful interlude but I intend to transform it from a piece to a song.
It seems to be taking on a life of it's own so I need to nuture it along to completion. The more I play it for people the nore it seems to grow on them. Todd, thanks for the supportive comments.

I thought you pledged you were going to be more tolerant this year? I went to look for your resolution and couldn't find it, though, did you have second thoughts? :~D

I apologize, Fly. It was accidental and not intentional. My own posts got deleted as well, not just yours. You shouldn't take it personally. I responded to your post in a very tolerant way as I pledged I would do.

You said: Why did you use "U" instead of "you"? "I am not a big fan of your music but some of your songs are OK. This one seems more lackadaisical than usual."

I thanked you for saying my songs were OK and I said I appreciated your honesty. I also said the song was mellow, not lackadaisical. (imo)

Other people can judge if I was tolerant or not. The deletion had nothing to do with the content of your post as my own posts got deleted as well. Your comment has been now been replaced.

I pledged not to complain if no one commented on my song links. I never said I wouldn't disagree with comments that were made.There was nothing about your post that was so terrible that I thought it had to be deleted. I have gone out of my way to explain the situation whereas some folks would just say that can do whatever they want with their blogs and leave it at that. I simply made a technical error which unfortunately is not new for me.

I respect you enough to replace the comment and I'm sure that you have the tolerance to accept my explanation. If I didn't respect you, I could just give a flip response or ignore you altogether or even delete your present comment. But you're welcome on my blogs any time. I will be more careful in the future about using the mouse. As soon as I realized what I had done, I knew I would hear about it.

My resolutions are very resolute.

Getting back to the original thread: I want to thank the 5 station managers who have put TOUCH U on their stations.

Hi Richard

I have had one listen only, and I was surprised---it was a different sound from my expectations---

Ray has sent me 2 new songs also ---so I am trying to catch up.

I am still officially---on holiday, back to our retreat, when I get back I will see where you have taken it----2009 has started with a positive blast for silverwooders---i have been practising a set of covers with my younger daughter Hazel----she is just coming into a golden patch and I hope to do some recording with her soon !
