my elaborate plan to push music into the stratosphere
I've been at the online music promotion game for a long time. I spent so many excruciating moments plugging the url mp3.com/fathertime that it literally sucked the life out of me when those assholes at Vivendi took that away from me. So now I've basically spent at least a third of my life pushing my musical goods and I feel I have some clarity about what stands in the way of taking the music I'm involved in to its highest possible station.
Say what you will, the music bidness is 100% different than it was when I first started making music. The advent of songfiles did a lot of the damage, that must be said. but. when. it. comes. right. down. to. it, the issue is basically this: Music does not have anywhere close to the same status/role in society that it once did. When I was roaming the campus at Penn State, there was something going on that we never thought was a phenomenon but now as we look back we realize it was. The fact is, I knew personally around 20 students on campus, and every single one of them bought a copy of the latest Led Zep album which was In Thru The Out Door, one of their weakest records I might add, pretty much immediately upon release.
Could never happen today. Most folks haven't bought a record in the last year. The culture just isn't the same. Then records and stereos were crucial. Now?

There just ain't room for music for most people. Sure, they'll all say they like music but it's mostly lip service. There are folks out there still where music rates for them as important but it's no more than 1 out of 10 or 20 people. Then it was 1 out of 3.
So anyway, getting to my elaborate plan.. well, the idea is to, singlehandedly if I must, figure out a way to inject a shot of music into lives. I've just begun to craft ideas on doing this but really, every single one of you is certainly capable of new angles on this dilemma. I'm currently tackling my political followers on Twitter, the thought is that they need to lift their heads up from the political bubble scene and take breathers.

which brings us to the question.. if you're involved in a political twittathon, how often should you step up to take a breather and listen to a song?
well it depends on your intensity level, if you're crazed, one song every 35 minutes. if you're mellow, one song every 59 min.

This is just the beginning. My goal is to indoctrinate the entire population of the world with this cause - that music should be forced into human's lives (for their own well-being) like other staples that are essential - voting, brushing your teeth, wearing your seatbelt, checking your messages. A song a day keeps the doctor away. (more like a song an hour). :D

Ah, dont watch netflix, except if a special. time waster. as is being locked on the internet keyboard social media thing, which I try to avoid now, no time, with my dads death and estate thing it has changed my behavior, less time on computer except for doing odd song,
dont play vids
I use to listen to tons of music here on IMP and do reviews like crazy, not much anymore.

One thing that occurs to me is that people are no longer musically educated. If you don't really understand something, it's hard to appreciate it. There is no magic in music anymore - it seems all ego-fed and personality driven. Plus, it's ubiquitous and, often, free. So no one values it.
We need music to be a standard part of education again.

Good Observation Tom,to some degree you hit the nail on the head, although there are many amazing music programs in elementary schools and fabulous ones right here in BC.
Many parents provide their children with private music lessons and that is a wonderful gift , some sacrifice a lot for their children and I know my parents did. I appreciated the opportunity to have some of the best teachers around teach me , my mother sought out one of the very best in the City, and he helped me achieve a high degree of accomplishments in piano. I also had a fantastic theory and harmony teacher as well. She specialized in all aspects of counterpoint, history of music and music composition in the classical genre. All the ones I had as music teachers truly did inspire, motivate and encouraged me.
I in turn, as a private music teacher for over 30 years try to do the same, and the reward is more then the music, because the student develops an appreciation and understanding of what they are doing.
My philosophy and approach towards music. Playing the piano is more than just taking lessons.
Studying about music and the instrument of the piano will empower the student by helping them develop Life Skills through Music.
They will acquire time management and goal setting skills. They will develop organized thinking patterns.
They will obtain important attributes, such as commitment, perseverance and personal responsibility in what they do.
Not only will students love the music they learn and enjoy what they perform, they will become skilled pianists.
The student will ultimately develop a sense of achievement through their accomplishments, and reap the rewards of self-confidence and self esteem.
Playing the piano is more then just taking lessons.
It is, and will be, a springboard to success for the rest of their lives.

Netflix and vid games, I could live without but music and a smart phone are essential
to me.
I wish music was more important to people in general but the only way that would happen would be if the content of the the music was more relevant and more exciting in a universal way.
The music scene is kind of divided into arbitrary categories that appeal to different tribes of listeners. If more artists took a chance and tried to transcend these divisions then audiences would step outside their musical bubbles and celebrate something new and different, something that builds on the great traditions of the past but puts some modern and unexpected ingredients into the soup.
