Cover of Two Silo Complex's "Never Let You Go"
And we come full circle! Somewhat of a departure from the original in many ways. I had a great time working on this song.

I'd like to thank Mike for a number of things. As far as I can recall no one before Mike asked to cover any of my songs and I was really touched by Mike's offer. To inspire another artist in such a way is kind of surreal. Mike's has plenty of guitar tricks up his sleeve so if you have not checked out his page or Sky hits the ground do you self a favor and stop by to give your ears a treat.
Mike Lance takes my "Low FI" Demo of "Never let you go" and brings all its ghosts to life with a full fledged production.
The layered echoes in the chorus are like those memories of the past that you just can't let go they find you at your quiet weak moments and just tear your heart out.
Mike's gentle folk style leads you into the murky waters but you won't be alone. There are longings here of things that could never be expectations that weren't meet.
How painful it is to watch the bird fly free all the while with chains on your feet wanting so much to be like the bird but knowing your chains will only bring the bird down low.
It’s pretty wings clipped now a prisoner but the horrific reality is that now the bird is not what the chained one longed before the one in chains brought the bird down.
Together they long for what once was and now can never be as the one in chains can't bear to be without the bird even though it’s a shadow of who it was when free.
Bravo Mike it’s a great capture all the subtle essence with great production. I hope I can get a copy of the mp3 please.

I’m glad you liked it! I was a bit nervous uploading it in case you felt it didn’t do the original emotion justice. I am quite proud of this recording. When I first listened to the original, I immediately had this idea to do a fingerpicked version, although the chorus was originally going to be a bit different. I was originally planning to go semi-spoken word on the chorus, but it didn’t quite work out like that and evolved into this. I’m glad the original idea was derailed.
The fingerpicking turned out exactly as I had hoped, however. I wanted to replicate the original verse melody and expand on it. I think there’s just enough of it here to feel like the same song, although it’s gone in a pretty different direction overall.
MP3 coming your way.

Mike did a great job tansforming my low fi demo into a full fledged production.
Mike was not afraid to bring all the ghosts that haunt this soung out of the murky waters.
The chorus is particualrly haunting.

Wow that write up was really awesome Richard. That really made my day.
Thank you for adding "Never Let You Go" to your station. It really shows the contrast with Mikes version on your station.
I hope this does encourage others to participate in doing other covers and being open to interpretation as this allows a new creation to be born.
You Rock Richard.
