Good News : Volume II - Ben Elliot on the BBC
Well they say good news comes in threes. I am personally happy with just 2. I entered a 'new songwriters' competition at the end of last year that was run by BBC Radio 2. You had to enter a song and answer a heap of questions about your song writing and recording. The songs were judged by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters and 60 finalist were chosen to go to a 'songwriting academy' where you are mentored by people from the BAC&S and the BBC.
Fuck me, Ive been chosen. I get to go to this academy. Im struggling to take in the size of what it is. There is going to be coverage on Radio 2, and if my memory serves me correctly, Radio 2 is the most listened to radio station in the UK. Ive no idea how many people have entered but Im guessing there would have been a fair few as it is a national competition run by the BBC, so Im pretty flabagasted that they think Im worthy of the top 60.
It seems 2008 is going good for me so far. I dont know a great deal about what this 'academy' involves yet but Ill try keep those interested, updated. If you want to find out more you can go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/newtalent/music/songwriters/. The song I entered was 'And You Are?'
At the moment Im shitting myself as Im guessing theres gonna be some pretty talented people there and I dont know how Ill fit in.

Ill try drop IAC into the conversation where I can. For those in the UK itll be broadcast on radio 2 at the end of Feb, but for all non UKers it might be available for streaming online. Ill keep you posted when I know more.
