Recording all in a 'day's' work?
Soooo, today was my first official day in the 'recording studio'. Mighty different than I had expected. I basically played 8 bars on the guitar and the producer built everything up around it...so now I actually sound like a consistant acoustic player ha!

It's mostly all done with 'drums', percussion. Will add a bit of bass & a solo guitar part, then vocals on day 2. I am pretty impressed so far with the process. I was however hoping to do some singing but I guess it'll have to wait.

I had some illusion of having 3 songs done in one day, but I guess that's not practical!!!???

I'm redoing, 'Living on the Borderline', & will replace the version here with the new fandangled one. I must say I am hooked with this better production and will need to save lots of money in order to do more.

Rate is about $300/day --anyone have opinions or similar pricing?

Can one song be done in a day consistantly?

Anyway, that is my experience....thus far, and hope for more.

You have been bitten by the studio bug. I M H O Studios take a bit to get used to,
Most engineers would rather do mutiple songs back to back as the set up is timely for switching inputs and setting up mics etc. Most offer a 3 song demo package that should be less than 30 bucks an hour. My suggestion would be to not be shy and say what you think and don't let the peeps tell you how it is. Most engeneers are set in their ways and have good advice but don't know you as an individual. Use your ears. Take copy's into your car or home stereo and listen to it carefully. After a few hours in the studio during mixdown your ears can get tired. Digital recording devices have come a long way. You can now get a 300.00 unit and a good mike and get many many things that the studio used to pay thousands for.
Of course there is the learning curve, but once you know how to use it , it is worth it. Some toys are very user friendly. I look foreward to hearing your full sounding studio productions. Have fun and don't watch the clock. Rock on. John

Thanks John, I appreciate your input. There is so much out there it's a bit of a challenge to figure out the best way to go. (for me) I did learn alot while watching the track being made. Lots of patience needed for the little things...not sure if I have it in me yet.

Take care,
Carolyn
