New All-Request IAC Station
http://iacmusic.com/Stations/KIAC6726.htm

Premise behind this station:

"I haven't been on this site in forever, and I don't know where to start in terms of finding new music. So you get to show me. What should I listen to? What music should everyone on IAC hear? Request on the tagboard thing, and I'll add it."

So there ya be. No requests will be ignored or denied. Let's see what happens with this thinger!

have fun,

Jon

Jon - I invite you to check out my page. I have 18 songs in the Top 40 of the Classic Rock genre and 11 of them are in the top 25, 2 are in the top 10. For a list of those songs check under "Artist News and Happenings" under my shout box. You can't go wrong with "Brother John" a rocker about John Lennon.

Kev, I tried putting a message on the tagboard but it wouldn't print. After 3 failed attempts I posted here.

EDIT - I just checked the station and now my posts are on the tagboard but they weren't there when I tried to put them there earlier. There was also a double post so obviously there was some glitch.

Jon - sorry for the double post on the tagboard.

I saw your post there, Rich, before posting here ...

I was kidding ... as I saw the exact repetition. I knew there was probably a reason ... and I was lightly poking fun accordingly.

Directions are for the wind ...

Mr. Fall said ... there is no G in this song !
So ... I played a G ...
He said ... a Dm is what is called for here and would sound so much finer
So ... I played a G ...
Mr. Fall said I was the main reason he went Bald

Miss Stucky said ... four and four are eight
So ... I wrote a nine ...
She said ... no, four and four are eight, how do you come up with nine
So ... I said four and four and one line underneath equal nine ...
Miss Stucky said I was the main reason her life went so Yucky

Funny you mention that, Rich. I've been distracted lately too. I started work on Bry's material and wandered off my own.

I plan on redirecting my energies back to my stuff soon.

Bry bought a Blue Snowball and has been experimenting w/ it in Garageband on his Apple laptop. He's got a terrific guitar sound out of it, but the vocal sounds like he's singing through a tin can.

No worries about the double posts/ tagboard directions thing. The tagboard will become a little more important once this thread drops off the radar, since I'm not sure I know how to find old threads.

Richard - I promise I'll add some of your songs soon, but you've got a lot of material up there :) I'm gonna listen to them first and pick and choose. The multiple choice requests require some legwork.

WOW!!! Thank you, Jon, for adding 11 songs to your station. I'm so honored and shocked, I'm freaking out!! That's more songs of mine than anyone's ever added to one station in the 3 years I've been here. And what I really find interesting is that you picked mostly songs that I did not suggest. That really reinforces my belief that it's impossible to predict what someone will like without knowing their musical tastes in advance. You picked many of my personal favorites that happen to be less popular than the songs I recommended. It gladdens my heart that there are people who appreciate all of my work and not just the most popular ones. When someone likes the songs that are closest to your heart, it proves they really "get" what you are doing. That is such a temendous validation which I sincerely appreciate. Thanks again.

Thanks for the awesome feedback! I've decided to go at this full-out, at least for awhile, as if I'm a program director. With the exception of requests for one or two specific songs, which for the time being will be automatic adds. But when it's a whole page, I listen to everything and pick the ones that stick out to me the most.

Eventually some songs will have to be trimmed out because it looks like there is a maximum length for stations, but for now I'm going to try to represent every artist that gets requested.

-Jon (from the artists account - I still forget which one I'm using. Same Jon.)

Jon ...

Cool, but the thirteen songs you chose off of my page makes our relationship unlucky. You need to take it to 14 ... or 23. Your call.

I owe you an ice cream cone. You totally get to choose the flavor.

btw ... I listened to your stuff, and it's totally Ice Cream cool. I only wish I had a station to play it on, but I don't. So you'll have to take my word for it that I like what you do too ... a lot. You've got great musical sensibility in a natural way ... which is my highest compliment I give. The rest is flavor ... like Ice Cream. :^D

Heh. As some of you may have guessed, I'm a bit of a newbie to substantial station management. I didn't realize that the recommended maximum number of songs is 100! Oops. So some of these songs are going to be cut eventually. I'll keep listening and save the creme.

Not that this is a critique or anything - I love the enthusiasm and multitude of responses I've gotten. I saw a few request station when I was searching around to see if it had been done before, and with one there were about two things on the tagboard. So I was worried there would be no interest at all.

However, I can help but notice that all of the requests so far have been bands requesting themselves. Once again, this is still awesome. I'm listening to and forming opinions on stuff that I would never have heard otherwise, some stuff that I typically don't listen to period, which will help me grow and a musician, listener, songwriter and on and on, which was my selfish motivation component of setting this thing up. Plus the first thing I did was put my songs on the station, so the pot is calling the kettle black :)

But I'm wondering: Are there any people here that are just Pipeline members and fans of the artists, with no artist pages of their own? I was expecting some to pipe up and say, "You HAVE to check these people's page out; I saw them when they came to town and they blew me away" or stuff like that.

You did that already, J ... you've got the Decemberists on your page ... and as you know, I'm a prior fan of theirs, AND I could suggest a BUNCH of others ... yet some unfortunately don't yet have an IAC page.

But in answer to your inquiry, I wouldn't anticipate too much fan based suggestions from artists themselves ... promoting oneself personally, I normally offer me.

I don't like most of the offerings IAC puts forward on their front page ... Sorry IAC ... I listened, didn't agree w/ me ... but of course, that's just me ... yet I've an ear ... and ...

... yet, music is the fabric of my life ... and I could offer TONS of suggestions:

Andrew Bird: Here

Ben Folds: Not here

Of Montreal: Not here

The New Pornographers: Here

The Shins: Here

Boy Least Likely To: Not here

Silverchair: Not here

Iron and Wine: Here

There will be another post here ... music is alive and well ... and exists on IAC, and sometimes not on IAC ... and that's okay. The point is music is alive and well.

:^D

Okay ... dinner done, let's continue ...

Neutral Milk Hotel: Not Here

Fleet Foxes: Here

Belle and Sebastion:Here

Rogue Wave: Here

Built to Spill: Not here

The Fruit Bats: Not here

The Arcade Fire: Here

Bright Eyes: Here

Camera Obscura: Here

Devon Davis: Not here ... but I personally love this album.

Flaming Lips: Not here. Great stuff.

Grizzly Bear: Not here.

The Mountain Goats: Not here.

Grandaddy: Not here.

Kevin Devine: Not here.

Kings of Convenience: Not here.

Lonely, Dear ...: Not here

Sufjan Stevens: Here

Oh no, Oh my: Not here

Wilco: Not here.

I could continue, but there is so much good music in the indie world, that not of the other band I'd list would appear here ... and yet I hear the music of the above bands all the time because ... I've got a HUGE music fan I sired, and he shares ... and he's great at music himself.

Special thanks to Bryan White for his contribution to my own knowledge of music contained in this thread. If you want to hear great music, research both the music mentioned on IAC above, and the other bands mentioned that don't appear on IAC.

You can't go wrong, it's all great music.

I was mainly wondering if there are people on this site who aren't artists. Just here to do the station thing, either to make them or listen to them. I kinda thought that's what the pipeline was. I was figuring they would have favorites on the site too, but I have yet to hear from one.

There are over 200,000 "concurrent" sessions as I write this. .005 of these is 1000.!!!..... you think maybe 50 new people would come on the pipeline??? Five percent of the half percent??? :) Screw that I would take 20 new people

I guess there are a whole lot of shy people out there eh??? .....

I love you guys, but I am amazed at the lack of new participation here giving these session numbers.

Peace
