does chart success increase plays?
This is a question to Artists who have had a song on the Big 50, the IAC hitline or the Underground .
I was just going to post on Tobys thread, but it is something that makes me curious, and is a topic on it's own.
I seldom visit either the underground or the Big 50, but always check the hitline, cos it's on the front--------------When you get on---------!
Do your daily hits go up ?
Is it just for that song, or is there a spin off effect?
Does it last more than a few days?
Do you put that song at the top on your site?
just interested!!!

We had Cleveland! on the Hitline once. I don't know how long songs usually stay there but it was there only a day or 2. It didn't seem to have any impact on the play count. Our plays went up a little bit overall but I doubt it was due to the Hitline.

Susan had her song "I Think of You" in the Big 50 once for a few days... I think the exposure helped to raise her profile here, but I couldn't be sure because I've never ever looked at the daily hits thing :)

To get any definitive answers I will need a few more charting musos replies-----------My guess would be that the front page hitline generates more interest, but only if the song was there for a while-------I started thinking about this when I tracked Ainjels new release, and it was on the hitline at the top------it shot up the genre charts!
She of course is a very popular and talented artist, and the charts may play no part in the rise!
so, more info please!

Personally, I think the thing that has made the most difference for me is getting involved in the community. Sure, the chart positions have helped generate an interest and I have had a few station adds from that but by far the most station adds have come from community involvement.
Four of my songs are currently in the top ten in their genres, one is at number 1 in genre and 13 overall and one is at number 28 in genre. This has all come at a time when I have put the most into community involvement here.
There is definitely a follow-on effect with the charts but I dare say my songs would fade away on the charts if I was to stop being active here. It is a two way street. Showing interest in other artists music, adding them to stations, letting them know when you enjoy their tunes is a great way to make friends and become known. :-)

I think your words apply equally well to you too.
I personally think the IAC decision to remove the forum and focus everything here on the Pipeline was a REALLY good move for everyone.
