What's in a name?
We chose our name after looking at what Domain names were available at the time-
Our business-was already called "silverwood"
Silverwood had gone-and there was also a silverwoodstudios (with an "S")
we get paypal mail for them-some times!
Also there is a silverwood studio that sells new age stuff-incense etc who come up when we google
we went to buy the .com and it was snapped up b4 we finished the transaction and offered to us -for a priceso we refused that and went for .net
Do you have a similar name to another site that you get tangled up with???

Funny you should mention this subject. I never laughed so hard in my life when I found out today that emails were going to my "day job" for a "Pastor Hoskin." So my co-workers were thinking that I was preaching on the sideline. LOL

Even in the rural high school I attended, I was one amongst three Kevin Whites in that school at that time.
I fully expected Kevin White.com would be taken by the time I sought it out, and it was. Apparently, it's now "under construction" ... which means the domain might actually be freed up.
What I didn't expect though, was kevinwhitemusic.com would be available, and yet it was. I now pop up at the top of google page 3 ... but there are a LOT of Kevin Whites in the world, so I don't consider that to be so bad.
It seems a goodly portion of other Kevin White's are photographers. One is a fashion/model photographer, and the other does Maine landscapes.
Actually, I own some of one of the Kevin's Maine works. We met at one of his exhibits up there, and he's quite good.
The other Kevin's works are top shelf too, although the subject matter (pretty young women) is quite different. His site pops on the first page and is amongst the first five listed. He must get visited WAY more than me.

Ha! true enough, Rob actually that name has become prophetic at killing threads a few times.... DOH! Hopefully not THIS one.
But, it's actually got SO many other great meanings!
Plus, it's bizarre enough that people eventually ascribe their OWN meaning.
Anyhoo, good idea for a thread. I've known SO many bands over the years who eventually had to change their name, because it was already in use by a MUCH more established band.
You've got a FEW songs that should fit on that "My NAME is_______" Station. I'm sure we'll see ya join us up in there soon...

I've never had any trouble with Woodstock Taylor (apart from getting called Windsock Trailer by someone once) but I used to have a band called The Aliens, and won't be able to use that name again now that a more successful band near me have taken it over and made it their own.

My mother was a punster. I can't help but wonder if that's why I was named Sylvester... Sly Witt IS a great name to be stuck with . My favorite band name was Sly Witt and the Witless twits, which was my 'punk' band in '80 or so.
I've also used Sy Witt, which is what most folks call me in life.

Geez, I tried to get hughhamilton.com a few years back and had to settle for the dot-net version. I guess I should have kept an eye on it, because the new proprietor is a British photographer, and it was something else before.
My favorite online HH is an Aussie vintner, though - considers himself the Black Sheep of the family. I actually tried a case of his wine (don't worry, spread it out over a couple of nights, lol) and it's tasty. HIs motto: "Every family has one" under a picture of a black sheep...my addendum: "And some families have a few dozen..." lol:
