It's a crazy world. Fireworks!!! Fire Eaters, Fire Jugglers, Fire Alarms.
I had served my time in a million bands, but always wanted to play my own stuff solo, I recoded and punted out countless demos, like throwing money into the wind really,
Anyway, I got an email from this festival promoter guy,
He was putting on a 3 day show, young bands old bands, aspiring acts for an industry showcase,
I want you to play the after show party Harry, all the industry moguls will be there, do your electro stuff, and get em high was the brief.
Here was my chance, and I practised like a mother, an endless seemless set I worked out with loads of oppurtunity for improvising,
The night of the gig came, and there were loads of punters and promoters in the place,
My slot at 11:30pm was fast approaching, and I psyched my muso head up.
I took to the stage and my opening number was a kind of Ronnie Size inspired tune, with a big atonal sweep on the synth, then a break beat before the bassline came in,
I played the second chord, and bang!!! the fire alarm klaxon belted out drowning out everything....
The whole crowd looked at me thinking it was part of my set...
My heart sank, the staff ran frantically round telling everyone "fire! evacuate!!! fire! evacuate!!!"
The fire brigade arrived within minutes, and we were all chucked out.
Well it was a false alarm, some one had busted a fire alarm in one of the stairwells,
Rumours abounded that it was a setup by a promoter whom I had previously "shopped" to the Musicians Union, for underpaying bands, and they had boycotted his venue during a festival, with pickets outside the gig, thats true.
But wtf??? Who wants to work for a music industry that promotes division and prejudice anyway.
Fight them, fight the system!!!
