IAC GEMS #5 Harold Malley Way by AZWEL
Harold Dalley Way by Azwel is such a magical, beautifully written song..
By what generally gets success in the mainstream, you'd think that the art of creating songs with anything but lumberingly predictable,cookie-cutter chord changes was dead.
Luckily from digging deep enough - as i have on IAC particularly -the arts still very much alive - and my Spaceboy station here is awash with them- for anyone interested in hearing some great, beautifully written (relatively) modern alternative pop/rock songs..
Its a huge driving force for me as a writer to constantly try and suprise myself musically, make strange detours and basically NOT be able to predict where the songs gonna go from the first couple of chords - and i love artists and songs which give me that thrill of the new..Its just being creative imo..
In my strange alternate universe then Azwel would be a million selling artist and not a total unknown, such is his skill at shifting moods, teleporting sections - suprising you at all turns with so many cool songs..
Harold Dalley Way starts with the ominous intro before settling into the lovely sad smiling
verse. The chorus suddenly toughens up then - and the whole mood become more unsettling and strange..Its a fabulous ride - and the ghostly haunted outro is one last unexpected ace, shifting the mood yet again and letting you float away on melancholic memory bliss
Fabulous track..

Can't access the heading to edit this..
Can anyone from admin tell me how i can ? Or could do it for me if i can't ?
Thanx :)

Wow, what an awesome tune! Thanks for pointing it out - I'm going to have visit Azwel's page now. Plan on spending some time there. The song is constantly surprising and I've realized lately that tha's what makes music more enjoyable for me. If I already can feel the chord coming a mile away, then what good does it do? But this song takes my brain for a ride. And then, just when you are satisfied and the song feels like it's ending, there's dessert.

hmmm...

IAC gems...(great idea Steve)

here's a few songs on IAC that feel special to me, like exceptional, artistic and daring....

1. "Hide" by Keltrix. what personality, rockin' band, wild in a good way.

3. "Radio Worthy," by JW and the mdwest jungle beats, "soulless media" skewered, and yet affirmative life givin' song, this guy deserves a medal, for such a beautiful song.

3. "I'll See U Again" by Pipe'n Slippers. vibrant cello, turn of the century english pub roust, with a touch of surrealism, and adventure...

hopefully, will be back later, with a couple more, perhaps I'll call em IAC Gems also, would you mind Steve? lol...

4. "Fly West" by fly girl... accapella, softly strange...

Tom..Totally agree..If you can see it coming whats the point ? lol..
Or if you CAN see the chord coming a mile away the vocal lines gotta be really cool n evocative..
I think thats one of the worst things with the real musical dumbing down of pop over last couple of decades..Peoples ears just get used to hearing (and expect C-G-Am-F kinda changes and find anything more interesting 'weird' n unacceptable..Its like they're being trained by Uncle Corporate to be good subservient consumers..
Its the cynicism i especially dislike where you hear pro-writers making something irritatingly catchy over those chords 'cos they mean $$$$

Steve...Cheers..All interesting selections..Absoloutly love The Pipe n Slippers one .Great track..
If you wanna post any more - always welcome :)

I love being hit by an unexpected change. And this is a really cool song that does just that. Thanks for the selection, Steve!

Speaking of unexpected changes, this guy is a master and this is a wonderful lesson for all you songwriters out there on how even the smallest, most-subtle twists can be very wonderful:

Don't mean to get the thread off-track, just trying to demonstrate and tie this in.
But, yeah, again, this is a super-cool song. Adding it to my station, too.

That was great Todd..Woh he's a million times better guitarist than i'll ever be lol
Would love to be able to do those Hendrixy things especially - but i'm too lazy..Don't have the right kinda disciplined mind-swet to be a good lead guitarist
