God i love this song so much.

Its so evocative and brilliantly written..Its weird,i've been trying to suss out what it is with certain songs that really resonate with me..One of the main things is definitely a mix of major and minor moods (like Strawberry Fields and See Emily Play for instance). Its like i can't define the vibes properly in these songs or tie them up neatly..They create their own world and alot of space for my imagination to move-so hold alot of interest..They're so inspiring for my own songwriting..

I worked out the chords for this and its skillfully juggling C C# D D# E F F7 G# G#9 A Amin A# A#maj9 without seeming obviously sinister or chromatic...6 major chords in chromatic steps too! (C-F)
The chord change to D and E seems really jarring on first listen but gives that great contrast with the lovely warm maj9th change..

The 'cello bit' change from F-A-Dm-F7 is beautiful..

The only way i can define the mood is STRANGE...Sinister sunshine or something..

The chords when the singing comes in..F C C# G# A# A#9 D E
F C C# G# A# A#9
F Amin D# A#
F Amin D# A#
F C C# G# A# A#9 D E
F A Dm F7 A# A#9 D E

I agree, that is a really good song. Creative melody, inspired by drugs no doubt. These kind of songs appear on their own, you can't set out to write one. Multiple themes, like a rock opera in itself. Set in a backdrop of 1968.

Have you invited them to IAC? You should.

They're long gone Banana-only made one album in 1968..I'm pretty certain that page wasn't created by any members of the band so no point in inviting them....Yes drugs i'm sure.I love the LSD inspired creativity of the late 60s (which Strawberry Fields and Emily share)
Very expansive and so evocative-the music from it at its best..
LSD seemed to draw such richly imaginative dreamy creations out of artists then-wheras the modern equivalent-ecstacy-brings monochordal machine-dominated drones from artist users, where any creativity seems to be restricted to the boffin manipulation of effects technology..Strange hu?
Glad you enjoyed the track :)

DT Chris..Well i guess my main focus is far,far more aesthetic than political..myspace obviously sucks on so many levels admitedly-but i've discovered so much wonderful late 60s music there i'd never've heard of unless i'd explored-so i'm grateful to it for that(or rather to the people who lovingly compiled the long-forgotten artist pages )
Did you like the song btw?

That is a great thing!

I actually drifted off streaming that page, hypnopsychedelic!!

thanks for that, I'd never heard them before. That is an unlikely mess of chords and yet there's never really a moment when it bothers me. I think the vocal harmonizes the chords in a way that redeems the progression. the guitar chords argue with the vocal and then they come right back...it's very clever.

You know I think one of the most psychedelic recordings of all time was not (supposedly not) LSD inspired...
In fact I've been listening to it again all this evening and it's sort of THE record for me..
TALKING HEADS REMAIN IN LIGHT.
It's a whole other concept, it's more about layering and bizzarre approaches to instruments and especially rhythem. Really every instrument is played like a drum on this record...But it more closely resembles the psychedelic experience than any recording I've encountered.
I just adore it, and it's one of those records that just changed the way I play and think and...all that sort of stuff.

Aye Steve btw, yes I liked certain aspects of the song, I was a little kid in 68, so didnt really have the means to obtain or indulge in LSD,

At that age/time period I was still into Sam Cooke and Chubby Checker,

My dad was playing hardcore bebop in the house, his crowd were more stoners than trippers,

I think he found the psychedelic scene as rather frivolus and lightweight in a musical sense,
Untrained unrefined and it was probably its musical contradictions which he didn't appreciate,
In saying that he did actually have to play all the Lennon/Macca chart stuff at work(full time clubby band 7 nights a week) to pay our mortgage

It does sound dated, though I did hear what "The Choral" are doing currently in the first track as I mentioned LD,

Dated to me, but totally fresh if the listener hasn't heard this style before.

I only click myspace if peeps like you reccomend Steve..;)

I think the lead singer sounds a lot like you Steve. One could almost believe you'd travelled back in time.

It looks like someone's bought the label's archives and are reissuing it all. I've never heard of most of the groups on that label, but one of Ron's favorite 60's underground bands is on there:

Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich Also different and interesting.

Is there another place that I can stream this that is not MySpace or YouTube?
I am intrigued and am blocked from those two sites (Facebook, too). And, by the time I get home, I'll forget to go listen and this topic will most-likely have sunk to the bottom of the topics page.

Both bands Apple and Dozy etc were simply Pop in their day - Nothing particularly more clever than anyone else at the time. That sound was mainstream.

Not "bad" taste, Fly, but just different taste to your own. Or do you think that everyone whose taste is different from yours is bad taste.

Just for the record - I don't like everything that Christina Aguilera has done, just one album in particular. Broaden your horizon, bug-eyes :)

"I think he found the psychedelic scene as rather frivolus and lightweight in a musical sense,

I can definitely understand your dad thinking that way given his musical background Chris..Its the contradictions and amateur musician
imaginations running wild element i love tho-same with alot of the punk/new wave stuff..

Never Never Band..I've heards a few bits of early Talking Heads which i really like
but have never heard the album as a whole..Will try and check it out-Thanks for listening

Glenn..I'm very flattered you think his voice sounds like mine! God i'd love to've writen
that song..Hate to be picky lol but i'm not that keen on Dave Dee,Dozy etc truth be told-
Glad you enjoyed photograph anyways :)..

Todd..I guess your prob home now lol so the point is mute-but no-
there's nowhere else you can hear it as far as i know-certainly not youtube anyway

RedRobin..I heartily agree with fly-you have appalling taste in music from my perspective too.
Your lazily offhand dismisal of Apples photograph-spoken as if its an objective truth
(like you did with my songs) is based purely on the quality of 'the sound'-and nothing more..

Master Ison - Don't take it so to heart, mate :) - I'm just being honest in expressing my opinion which is that Apple's music (and Dozy's) reminded me of the Pop sound of its era - NO MORE, AND NO LESS. When I used the word "sound", I wasn't referring to its PRODUCTION quality but its whole style as being recognisable - Distinctive even!

I didn't even say whether I liked their music or not, but you, it has to be said very typically regarding my posts, have to come out and interpret my words in the way you want to interpret them - It's called prejudice.

Anyway, I like some, but not all, of your music - "Strangest Feeling" for example. You do what you do very well and are obviously inspired by past eras and sounds or genres if you prefer the term. I think you have a great sense of melody and an attractive singing voice. However, your voice to me on the Pipeline tends to be hostile, which is a shame and it's only because of your strange prejudice.

ConvS - I don't think anyone said or even suggested that Fly was a troll. He can be very articulate and entertaining and also unpleasant, but he isn't a troll.

Calling it like we individually see it, is how it always should be, in my opinion. And that's all I was doing, Fly. Read into it what you will - That's entirely up to you.
