Elvis C. could really uncork them. "Allison" brings a pang/a smile to this day.

Also, enjoy his singing style, kinda beatleish really...

well Steve, speaking of the Beatles, did you know Elvis C. cowrote a song with Sir Paul?

"My Brave Face" was first recorded at sessions overseen by McCartney and Costello in early 1988. Excerpts from this session were eventually used in McCartney's documentary video Put It There, but other than that were not used. The final version of the song was recorded later the same year at Olympic Studios in London, with producer Mitchell Froom joining in on the work. According to the Put It There Documentary, this song became the permanent return to Paul's iconic Hofner violin bass by request of Elvis Costello. To this day, Paul still uses this bass, no longer using the Rickenbacker 4001 and his Wal 5-String Customized.

His compilation CD is awesome, with Narry a B-side in the bunch.

I'll say it again, the man can write vocal melodies & lyrics with more intricate twists & inherent catchiness than most.

LOVE his stuff, and thanks for bringin' him to mind John, et. al.

HE IS one of my gods

Actually 'Peace Love And Understanding' was written by Nick Lowe John-but Elvis' ace version is the definitive one,no doubt :)

I saw him live several times in his punk days when he first came to America and he was one of my faves, always. Personally I thought he never topped Get Happy or Armed Forces but there are always several songs from each record I like, like Tears Before Bedtime for instance. My last band played Pump it Up. heh

That's my favorite of his tunes, John...love the harmonies on the studio version. Other than that one song I missed the Elvis train though. Perhaps I'll "get it" in the future. I was relatively late to appreciate Dylan too, and I'm still wrestling with opera (lol)...

Rawk!
