Good melody is the most commonly missing element, why most songs will not live long. Interestingly, with thousands obsessing over what it is for centuries, still no one can say what it is, what qualities it has. Just try. You can't describe the quality.

I agree with that. Just released a new song with BEATLESEX that has a timeless melody. I put a link up at one forum and all they wanted to do was nitpick production elements, I asked if that's what they'd do if a young Paul Simon posted a new demo of Bridge Over Troubled Water. Complain that there wasn't enough sustain pedal on the piano ?

Not many composers today are hitting that 'golden' melody. Most barely get by.
