I'm not sure if I should post this, but ...
It's up for now, this odd little song that I recorded a few months ago, then forgot about until I found it in a drawer. Is it just too weird? Or does it somehow work?

Yes, the concept for this song is very strange. But the honesty and innocence of seeing beauty in those that have waged war is immensely confusing but worthy of consideration. As a veteran I am always stunned when someone comes up to me and thanks me for my service to my nation. This whole concept is totally foreign to Vietnam veterans like me. We came home to spit and hateful vitriol about being baby killers. For many years I hid my service to my nation from my friends as I was traumatized by the stigma of being involved in the war. I was made to be ashamed of the fact that I was willing to kill or die for what I believed to be an important cause. The liberation of the people of Vietnam.
War is such a necessary evil. If not for war my people would still be in chains and treated like live stock. Millions of Jews would be exterminated and wiped off the face of earth. The list of those who have benefitted from the sacrifices of warriors is too long to list here. Just as the list of collaterally destroyed souls cry from the dust of lonely graves. But I abhor the fact that we have to make these kinds of sacrifices because of the evil aggression of the enemies of freedom. Yet, even still today, if the threat emerged that would jeopardize the freedom of my loved ones and my nation, I would stand ready to defend them with my life. I'm not sure that there is any beauty in that. I only know that at heart, I am a peaceful man. But I am capable of killing to protect my loved ones and my nation. Just as my ancestors fought to protect their rights to bring me and my grandchildren's children into a free world.
The hardest part for me to accept about your song is the concept that the war is over and the warriors and victims alike can now rest assured in the safety of peace. The true reality is that the war will never be over for people like me and many of the victims that survived. When I lay down at night to go to sleep I can see the faces of the dead and hear the sounds of battle. The images of decaying flesh permeates and obstructs my inner peace. The smell of rot is wafting through my nostrils and the tears for the fallen that were lost forever haunts me. Only the stupor derived from a bowl of sativa and a couple of Zolpidems give me the escape I need to fall into peaceful sleep. There is nothing beautiful about war. Treaties may be signed but for most of us, the war will never end. The only beauty I can find is the possibility that my actions have preserved the rights of many yet to come. The evidence of that is a striving Vietnamese refugee community a few miles from where I live.
Your song is an ominous work of art. It shows the great strength and conviction you have towards honesty and alternate perception. There will be those who hate it and those who love it. I can only say that the truth of your bold spirit is also very beautiful. Keep writing my friend. Your gift is pure and honest. There is great beauty in honesty.

Dear Tom,
Beautiful Warrion is a lovely song. The only thing I would like to see different is the vocals just a little louder. I too admire your honesty in songwriting. Straight from the soul and full of meaning.
If you don't mind Tom I would like to say something to Stoneman.
What happened to the Vietnam Veterans on their return was disgraceful. It was carried out by people who were too shallow to understand the sacrifices that people fighting for their country had to make, not just the soldiers, but their families as well.
Those people who spat on the Veterans failed to understand that soldiers are not the perpetrators of war, but victims of war just like those whom they have to kill. Victims who are prepared to put their life on the line for their country.
I am not American, but I have a lot of respect for you Stoneman and all the Veterans of any war.
I wrote a song a few years ago now called A Field of Green. The lyrics could have been a lot better, but you might care to listen to it.
