Banker
I was thinking about indie music lovers who are not artists. Was reminded of this guy some of us knew named Banker. Banker was around since the early days of mp3s and was a true indie fan. Last I heard from Banker was 6 or so years ago and he was having bad health issues. Anyway Banker would always request I put this song about my first car on whatever music page I was pushing at the time. I decided I'd put that song on my page again today, for Banker, wherever he is.

You know, I love this story, and I love this song.
I love this story, because this is rock folklore at its best.
For absent friends who have loved our music. Here's to them.
May they all be listening still, wherever they are up there.
And I love this song,
because, well, I believe I may have mentioned I'm pretty sure
I came here from a parallel universe? Yes I suspect so, immensely,
all the more as time goes on; I've compared memories with that of
my brother and they do in places differ significantly.
Well, somewhere in the furthest reaches of my mind,
I can almost imagine this,
as having been one trippy-ass Beach Boys record.
Something Brian Wilson had to go into rehab after they dragged
him out of the studio after his three month recording session,
which was visited by literally every major rock n roll star on the planet.
And even then, they dragged him out kicking and screaming.
"It has to be PERFECT You Idiots!! NOOOOOO!!!"
But, they mixed for about 47 hours straight,
(nevermind the 'boosters' that went into that spectacle of debauchery)
and they came out with an absolute classic, which this is.
If Brian Wilson in this universe owed me a favor,
I'd be tempted to ask him to do a Beach Boys version.
And he'd listen to it, immediately realize the major undertaking it would be,
because this isn't just a three chord ditty, this is a rock n roll commitment.
The guitar stuff at the end alone has me experiencing LSD flashbacks.
And thanks for that. Three months sober, and now this.
It's okay, I've navigated the waters well and often enough in my youth,
I'll swim my way out this time too.
Well, I'm sure Banker has to be loving this still.
Come to think of it,
I think I once did a very Beach Boys-esque record....
nothing on the scale of this, I'm afraid.
One of those three-chord ditties I mentioned, actually....
May put it out though, just 'cause this put me in the mood
to hear some new Beach Boys.
And in this universe, they haven't made any in a while.
Bravo, Mr Time.

Thanks, it was nice reading that. Here I thought it was cool enough that there was a surf sub genre listed under rock. :)
A friend PMed me on facebook today and told me that Banker died. but you know, I sense he read my post today and probably clicked on the song too.
As for the old Fury, I was also (on facebook) recently reunited with the friend who had the red Ford Fairlane. Those were such great times, sowing our wild oats so to speak. The picture on my songpage, that was my dad's sporting goods store behind the car. I had an idyllic youth I suppose which is probably the seeds of my adult lack of contentment. heh

Sorry to hear of the passing of your friend and that you had to find out on facebook of all things. Cool surf vibe on this one. I'm positive your friend in the ether realms pressed play and even if he can't be here in person your song keeps his memories alive.
I find it funny how a song leaves those imprints on our lives. We can sometimes recall events but the song that played. Clearly these are fond memories and I hope you keep them alive by keeping the song where those of us that are still here in this place and time can enjoy it. I'll say to you the same thing I said to hop on pop about the song he played on his dad's mandolin. I hope for every play your song gets your friend smiles down on you from the ether. I hope that the song is never again lost to the vapor or archives.
my thoughts to you .
TSC,
Ken

Awesome story, thanks for sharing that. Sorry that he has passed away. Fans like that are great reason to keep making music. Hearing your song was obviously a very special thing for him.

I saw that on FB today. It's good to see Kevin even if he isn't here at IMP. I guess him and White, Lehman and others are still jamming at least and at least not pushing up fucking daisies.
I love you, Lesley, you brilliant motherfucker.
