an update on my music..
well we thank all who have watched the video of There Used To Be A Thing. On one forum there were a lot of production notes. This is part of the reason indies can't climb out of the hole of obscurity. The way to get over the hump would be if everybody help push a couple songs into the stratosphere. Instead they want to talk about delay effects?
There are 2 new Neg Tendencies songs in the works including one that is pretty sensational.
BEATLESEX with rumored new member Buddy Holly is working on another song for FT. This one is sort of a pop country ballad.
I have some great lyrics which I'll soon be writing music to. There's also a couple unfinished songs on my harddrive that will be fun to finish. It's my year.

I don't think the way to get over the hump is leaning on other artists to push you over the hump is true.
I think indies ascend out of obscurity all of the time. Artists not in the hole of obscurity came from somewhere, right?
I mean, everybody fucking looooves Bowie, but John Lennon gave him his start, right?
The indies that rise up have to have an extremely broad appeal or get lucky or know someone, otherwise, enjoy the trenches with the rest of us scum bags.
This is the life.
What are you trying to achieve?
Dude, embrace the good life right fucking now, or remain wanting.
We answer to no record labels, no dildo money hungry JayZ wannabe producer douchebags. The only thing holding us back from being our best version is our own inhibitions.
Honestly, these forum jackoffs you keep getting into cock measuring contests with are the same guys who think their shit don't stink and everybody else's does. This forum is no different and they have no bearing on who you are unless you let them. Their support in pushing you into the stratosphere is probably NEVER going to happen, because they are there for the same reason as you, they think they are god's fucking gift, and they are, and so are you, and so am I, as well as everybody else here who chooses to participate.
Breathe in this moment right now. This moment you have where you are able to continue your journey, you lucky motherfucker. This is it. We ALL have arrived and we all ascended obscurity when we woke up alive with another chance to be creators.
Be happy and keep up the great enthusiasm for creating, you fucking spoiled cunt, haha.

It's not that artists need to be pushed up to the top. It's just that of late, society tends to obstruct their path.

Yeah, I hear what you are saying. I don't agree. This is same as it ever was, except we have more resources to create and be heard.

well digital recording is cheap, that's good. But now there's a glut of music in between you and critical mass that wasn't always there.

yeah, the glut, sure, but all the more easy to stand out as an individual, don't you think?
I mean, everyone has the same tools at their disposal, and quite frankly, it seems to me they are making the same mistakes by trying to sound like everybody else and pass some unspoken litmus.

Well you know, it feels like I'm doing great work. and while the folks have been positive, it still doesn't feel like I'm flying towards success.

I can totally relate to that, and for manic idiots like you and I we have to change the way we look at it. We are either on the path or not. The universe throws us these curve balls, headwinds and hills to test our mettle. I believe in you, dude.

Hey.
Well, I'll share a bit what I think.
I like what we're doing.
I'll tell you something else, and we can call this, me sharing
a bit of my own personal philosophy at this point.
And it regards the thing called 'success'....
Recently, I saw a quote on the front page here, from Bob Dylan,
something about not letting success be defined by others, so much
as realizing, doing what you in your heart want to do, kind of is success.
In terms of artistic success, or perhaps more to the point,
that popularity we grew up seeing our heroes have,
I no longer think it is a thing to pursue. I think, the thing we must go after,
is becoming the purest version of ourselves we can be.
That's what I try to do now. Doesn't matter what kind of song it is,
what genre, who's helping me do it. What matters to me,
is that I'm 'me-ing the shit out of it'.
That, I think is how 'it' happens, if we're to objectively talk about
the kind of success which I, and apparently you too, have dreamed of.
We don't chase it. It finds us, as we become our true voice.
That's how I see it. So I just, with each record I make,
try to really get in there, and pull out all the music that is inside of me,
that is already there, and just needs me to patiently find it,
and bring it out here, so that other people can get into it if they want to.
That, if you care to hear and consider it, is how we will find success.
By finding out each time we make a record, that much more, of who we are.
More we do that, sooner the whole thing 'happens' as we have dreamed of.
That would be my personal philosophy of it, developed over time.
Sense of self-discipline is helpful;
I've learned to sensitively tune into 'the groove' of a thing I am doing,
and also, developed the sense of 'it's working' or 'it isn't' and when it isn't,
I stop, and go back to where it was working, and pick up again from there.
Like, never take a bum take, do it again, and again, and again,
till it's no longer a bum take, till you go 'oh yeah, that's the baby'.
It's like building a house, each brick you lay in that sucker,
has to be just so, or you build one shaky-ass house and it won't stand long.
It's worth the time it takes, to lay each brick just right, click, snap, right into place.
Okay I'm going to shut up now, 'cause you know me, I can go on a bit.

PS....
I happen to think you're on the right track.
There Used To Be A Thing is the beginning of a whole new phase.
Keep with it. Let it come to you. It will.

I have numerous projects happening at once. Released The Ride which hasn't been on my page for awhile. Have another song on my harddrive where the lead vocal is finished, I just need to add some sort of backing.
Have a new song coming with BEATLESEX which is a pop country ballad.
and stuff I'm really excited about from Negative Tendencies.

Heard "The Ride" sounds nice... like the outdoorsy background sound too...
Looking forward to hearing the new Negative Tendencies stuff,
as well as our next collaboration.

One of my bandmates was expressing some insecurity about himself. I told him he's one of the greatest musicians I've ever known and I guarantee both him and me will make shit happen. You know, of all the doubts I have about life, making music ain't one of them. It's really about the only thing I'm pretty sure I'm doing right.
