Do you want everyone to like you?
If you do you're on a bad road.

I have one goal in music: I want to be able to like my own works.
That is a huge challenge as a musician as well as a listener.

I'll go further than Furious Underdogs, I want to like myself a bit more as Woody Allen said "My one regret in life is that I'm not someone else"

Of COURSE I want everyone to like me!
But I know that isn't going to happen, so I just gotta please myself. Hell, sometimes I even annoy my bandmates because I do things that I want to do and ignore their advise.
(David—the drummer/keys player—hates THIS song. But I did what I wanted to do, dammit. Because I wrote the damn thing.)

But seriously...
To create music that everyone liked in the 21st-century it would have to satisfy everybody's genre needs and be totally consonant and generic. In other words, it would suck.

Sure, but achieving something like that is totally impossible so I am thankful for what few folks find merit in me and what I do. Sometimes I want to be loved rather than liked but I will take like as it is better than being hated. To be loved is to be immortalized and emotionally massaged.

Kind of going off what others have said, if some people like me and my music etc. and some don't, I can deal with that. As long as a decent amount of people actually give my stuff an honest listen, I don't really care too much whatever side of the fence their judgement falls on.

I would think most artists, at Any level they are in,
would like to be Liked and appreciated, and acknowledged by others,
whether to be praised for their song-crafting, their musicianship and/or singing abilities. And I'm sure if not liked for who they are, at least be liked for what they do, otherwise they wouldn't be posting and promoting songs at several different music sites or as many songs either. I believe that once they decide to upload a song online, they are looking for one sort of validation or another. Those who say they don't care if they are liked or not already voiced that others' opinions matters to them, whether good or bad, though they will deny it, but if they didn't care they wouldn't be posting promos for their songs or commenting on certain topics as this. Bottom line is facts, Everyone wants to be liked, that's a human need.

Well My comment was on topic in regards as an artist,
since this is after all a Music Site consisting of music artists,
so that's how I answered in.
And yes, as an Artists, I do want Everyone to like me based on my songs.
I think in that aspect, we All do.
I separate that from my personal life,
in which it doesn't matter if Everyone likes me or not personally.
There is No one on Earth, past or present, that Everyone liked.
There will always be jealousy, envy, resentment, etc
towards every and any person by others. That's the way it is with human nature.

Well Father Time hello again,
Do you want everyone to like you? Well first off we don't consider this a possibility. We know our country ways don't appeal to some city slickers or the more refined.
Second off sometimes we don't even like ourselves or you know the tunes we made end up in the wood shed so how could we expect anything less then than from anyone else?
Don't make much sense to these country boys.

I still do not want everyone to like my music.
I do not plan music. Our band's songs are ready when they are and how they are. They are built in pieces - after the initial drum and bass tracks are done (we often start with those) I'll just start playing guitar on top of those tracks and some ideas will be used, some discarded. They are selected by how WE hear them and no decisions are made thinking "what will everyone else think about this?"
So, we make music for ourselves, not to everyone.
The other side of my answer is: no way I want to live in a world where everyone likes me. This would mean, exaggerated by generalising, that either everyone knows me or everyone thinks like me.
I would hate a world like that.
In my perfect world everyone likes someone, different people like different things, and they would know why they do so.

I'm pretty sure that's about as an impossible impossibility as could be possible.
What, really, what would you have to be,
to have EVERYBODY Like You.
Why, you'd have to be,
a thing everybody needed,
Air. For instance.
Now if you're Air, you got a good shot,
Or Do You.
Not so much in China.
They have no pollutant regulations,
and their air, is thick gray crap,
unless you've been there or have at least seen pictures,
you cannot imagine.
Looks like the End of the World over there.
Go Google up some pictures...
Try "China, Rush Hour, Smog",
then hit "Images",
see what you are shown on display.
They must not like Air a whole lot there, they're sure f***in' it up enough.
Literally everybody is wearing face masks.
Literally everybody.
Or someone will not wear one just to be different,
but mostly, everybody's wearing the face masks,
you know, the surgical masks docs and nurses wear
in the operating room? Yeah that.
But as for music?
I think,
that if God Almighty,
Played Heaven's Mighty 12,000 Pipe Organ,
in a Lost Chord Finale Heralding The End Of The World,
there'd still be some jackass,
saying,
"sorry big guy, that sounded a little flat".
Life is Fickle,
and the world can be as well.
Fickle means, if you were stupid enough to try and please everybody,
you'd be run in a circle, 'cause half the time the people themselves ain't sure
what they really want.
So, to TRY to make everybody like you,
Well Scott's right, it's a way bad road,
it's a waste of time too.
Odds are, all you'll succeed in doing,
is making you like you less.
I just make the records that I wanna make.
And I try to get better at it,
so that I don't feel like I'm just spinnin' my wheels.
But I gotta like it.
And if I don't like it, then I don't wanna do it.
If anybody likes anything I ever do, then great, glad to hear it.
That ain't even why I do it.
Maybe it's why God Wants me to do it, I would not know.
God sure put it into my head like all my life
that His Plan for me, is Make Music, you're good at it, and we need music.
So I do what I can.
And that's all I can do.
And on principle,
I'm totally okay with whatever anyone wanna make or think of me....
I mean, how much thought is it given anyway.
These days? Almost nothing is given any thought whatsoever.
And I'm not one you can peg in a glance,
some thinking and assembly of concept required.
And this is why I need to say less rather than more.
After a while it's all yackety yackety yack.
Even I start thinking so, so I can only imagine how it is for all of you.
Those of you who would know me,
know, that I wholeheartedly throw myself headlong into what I do.
And for better or for worse,
what I do, is totally and entirely a product of me, all of me, to the nines.
And also, screw it, I'm here, I'll say this too,
to be an artist, and not just a schlock jockey,
is to constantly learn, improve, grow, gain new awareness,
blablabla....
So even if somebody likes something I did ever....
The minute I release it,
I'm already onto 'what's next'.
Nah,
if you want EVERYONE to like you,
go into Politics.
It won't be real,
but you can get a lot of people buzzin' it up just the same.
You can be the you you wanna be,
or the you you think someone else wants you to be,
but there's a lot of variables in trying to guess,
what someone else, wants you to be,
and it's probably stupid even if they tell you.
I'm the one who's got to be me.
You all dodged that bullet. I'm the one it hit. So I'm me.
Like me, or don't.
I don't care.

American Leslie Jane is...
VERY "CORRECT" when he/she says:
"IF YOU WANT EVERYONE TO LIKE YOU",
"IT WON'T BE REAL",
"YOU CAN BE THE YOU YOU THINK SOMEONE ELSE WANTS YOU TO BE"
...and therefore "YOU" wouldn't be "YOU", but you'd be "SOMETHING ELSE" other than what you truly were/are... meaning therefore that "YOU"(the REAL one) isn't being liked at all. It would be only an illusion. Wanting "EVERYONE" to like you is an insanely impossible quest destined for failure. Not even air would be "liked" by everyone the same. Some would prefer the "natural" and therefore "true" nature of the scent being presented naturally, while another would/could be offended by the stench and prefer to burn incense or spray perfume. And then these flavors/smells would be found as offensive unto others... who would then create and/or use different smells/scents. And on and on it goes... feelings of "rejection" being caused by someone who "disapproves" of what you have done or finds it "unacceptable" and thereby has "undermined" your "well-thought-out plan" of action. Anyone who is "liked by EVERYBODY" has been devious and is a fake who has hidden from others their true nature. And these type folk should be avoided like the plague! Chances are pretty great that they have bad intentions for the unsuspecting. They have "HIDDEN" for a reason... usually a pretty "BAD/EVIL" reason. The "Big Bad Wolf" who hides in "Grandma's Bed" comes to mind. So, YES! "Some people" WANT TO BE LIKED BY EVERYONE... but it's not a very good course of action... unless you have bad intentions... and then it makes sense and will work rather well toward acquiring the most victims. But, most "normal" people want to be accepted/liked for who we "really are" and for the "choices we have made". And who we "really are" is a direct result of "THAT"... along with what we have "learned" and how we "truly feel and think" about the choices we have and have not made. I guess wanting "Acceptance" by everyone could be reasonably attained though... meaning that you and your "type" are "allowed to exist" without punishment... "Permitted"... now this IS attainable... but without the "Liking"part!
... haha ...A(lonely)Nother Day, one of our songs just started playing(I'm streaming our songs as I write) ...and it just happens to be about the subject at hand.
...cool! -M-
