Does your mind have to be in a certain state to work on music?
Mine does, it's hard to get over that hump sometimes, too.

There was a time when I had to be in "good mood" when I worked on my music. Now it seems that I can work anytime at all. In fact, when times are crappy I find that music is a great escape. But the one thing that does effect my performance is how energetic I feel. If I'm tired from a late night or have any aches or pains, I can't concentrate on doing anything creative. I also prefer to work when there are no distractions and things are quiet in the apartment. That seems to work best especially when writing lyrics which I always find very demanding. If I don't have a preconceived idea for a lyric to start with - a good idea rarely comes in mid-flight. I get my best lyrical ideas on the tarmac. If I don't, then taking off becomes very difficult.

No, I work on music in a variety of states of mind. It ranges from inspired, passionate, horny, pumped, jazzed, fucked up, angry, sad, happy, stoked, smoked out, drunk, lonely or revved up. Whatever state of mind I am in is probably going to be translated into the mood of the song. Guess thats why I have so many party songs. I party a lot now that I am retired from my day jobs. Life is one long vaporized existence. Inhale, hold it, exhale! OG's do it with expertise and precision. We know how to target the right brain cells at the perfect time. Party! hey hey, Party! Oh yeah! Ain't no party like a Stoneman party cause a Stoneman party don't stop! Woo Hoo! I know I am doing it right when my suture scars on my head start to itch. My Publishers know that my shit is always on time. Bitches better have my money. Thats real shit right there! As we use to say on the mean streets of South Central Los Angeles. "You got to come with some to get some" But lets make this perfectly clear. I don't wear Red anymore unless it is 49ers gear. I even retired from the set many years ago. Love will always be the answer to some of the most important questions in this world. Love and Weed! Weed smokers are usually chilled out and peaceful. But they forget a lot of shit. You know? Things like what they originally intended to write on FB? Hey, I have convinced myself that it is my advanced age that causes ME to do that. I mean, you have to tell yourself something right. A little sticky Green lie won't hurt ya. On many occasions I have written and produced music in my sleep. Wake up in the morning and it is ready for me to tweak.

I don't think so... but I do feel a sense of urgency. Almost always...
Like time is not on my side and I have to keep digging through/writing my NO's to find my Yes...

Yes, my mind has to be out of the way - so there aren't any judgments about what I'm writing, or impatience with the process or any trivial thoughts to get in the way of the music/words flowing in. Gotta have a quiet mind.

If I have time, I want to make music.
