Not so good. I got up this internet band and provided some really good songs. It's starting to feel like the project will never be complete. It's lowering my self-esteem that they are just so lazy, my songs deserve better than this.

as bad as it could get...today is one of the worst days in my life..and that's awesome..there have been many. Good news is that tomorrow will be even worse...good news because I have not recorded in 3 years but with all this shit happening right now I am getting close to start again....
As always there is always a 6-string friend which keeps you sane...hopefully
Don't care about making money with music. At some point my band made money but we put all the cash into new equipment.
Anyways, keep on producing and don't care about the rest. The worse you feel the higher the chances are that you will succeed. (it's called life)

Not the best.
It's been 1.5 years since I wrote a new song and it's a struggle to get anybody to even listen to my stuff, let along get them to add it to their music library -- FOR FREE!

this is the nature of internet music. Your problem is one of expectations, get back to the core of why you do music, your love of it, and maybe you will do more of it.

Todd ~ Have you considered entering song contests? What about joining TAXI?
In both cases there is a guarantee they will at least listen. Getting an honorable mention or higher in a contest, or getting a "forward" from TAXI (your song gets passed on to the listing you are pitching it to) is often just the ticket to raise your self esteem. I know it's a drag to pay but sometimes ya gotta pay to play. If ypou haven't written a new song in almost 2 years, maybe you're trying too hard. Write ANY song for yourself. You can't reinvent the wheel with every song but you might surprise yourself if you lower your expectations and just write whatever comes into your head.
It may turn out better than you think. You can always take a sad song and make it better!

I disagree with that. Only at my lowest state do I want to enter contests but then when you don't win you're more depressed. That's my experience.

I don't have the budget to record anything. So, if I did have a little something lying around, I would use it to pay for studio time, not to enter a "contest".

The problem with contests is they cost money. I don't have any money. Plenty of songs and plenty more to record but no money, yep no money.

We have been having a dream ride with "Say Something" on a few sites but on Spotify it's our best ever result-----I wish all my friends here the best, our computer is really down on speed at the moment, since Netflix came on line here in New Zealand, the whole internet has almost ground to a halt at certain times, so I'm sorry not to be commenting on the artists blogs---Todd, Richard, Dolores, Chandra, and more. YOU ARE GREAT!!!

For one thing, the entry fee is only $10 as compared to the $25-30 charged by other competitions. And the judges (and directors) really do listen to the submissions. Even if you don't win, it's a buzz to land in the Finals or Semi-finals. It's also a way to gauge your material against that of other artists.
In the SongDoor 2014 event, my collaborator and I had two of the five tracks in the Instrumental Finals. We didn't win the main prize (it went to a guy in Germany who pretty much wins every year), but we did win the popular vote, along with $500. That was fine by us. ;)

Good on ya Donna well done. I dont do contests, i might get in competition with one of the artists i promote !!! but then again, it could be a good measuring stick so to speak, so perhaps it is something I will consider in the future, especially the one you suggested, sounds fair and square

My self esteem as an artist is a bit wavery at the moment but I have a live gig coming up on Dec 9th and I find that usually helps - it gets me practicing and liking some of the old songs again - especially if I play some nearly forgotten ones. It gets me out there with other musicians. Money - forget it! By the time you take practice time into consideration we're lucky to cover our expenses - but I'd recommend live performance - even if it's just an open mic - a self esteem boost.
My writing mojo is pretty low - I haven't produced a completely new song in quite a while but then - you never know when inspiration might hit!!!

Say what you will about songwriting contests but for me it has been a great cash cow. I have won a bunch of them and it has been very lucrative for me in cash and gear. It has also opened up a lot of doors that were previously closed to me because I am a nobody in the music industry. Also, it is a good gauge towards seeing where you at in regards to your skills. Plus, the really good ones give in-depth reviews on your songs from Grammy award winning artists and producers. Maybe you will be as lucky as I have been and win some. Maybe not! But it is just like the lottery. You can't win it if you ain't in it.
When my self esteem as an artist gets shaky I just look at all the awards on the wall in my studio and then I tell myself to get a grip and stop wining. But an even better remedy is to vape it away. I only see my shrink for really important stuff like my P.T.S.D. from the war.

Well maybe i just might venture in to something some day. see if anything I have works, the produced stuff, I have some of that around here that is decent, and since some of it made it to radio, ya might think it is alright, but maybe that is no measuring stick anymore. anyways. maybe it could be a future consideration
