Pianos
Much better than guitars, but harder to carry.

Better?

Okay.
I'm stepping right into it, but, I'll bite.

Define "better".

I miss having a piano, it's been a long time. I have keyboards but not the same.

Kid, you crack me up. You really do. Freakin' adorable.

I began ---now you're stuck with it, I'm going to pontificate,
and young lady, you did this.----

I began, believe it or not, on piano.
Tinkering a bit at 13, and by 14,
I could actually play piano and sing along...
(and I was awful, they told me to stop and never do it again)

one day when I was 17, for one reason or another,
(I think my piano was being repaired, yeah, I think that was a factor)

I picked up a guitar, just 'cause I couldn't play the piano
and I was jones-ing bigtime (you're familiar with the term 'jones' I hope,
if not, ask)

to play some music,

so I picks up this guitar, piece of cheap crap,
not worth ten bucks, but it had all its strings,

and just from what I knew from piano,
I figured out some chords,

and it was a bitch kinda, 'cause the fingers hurt at first....
you grow callouses eventually then it doesn't hurt...

but anyway, inside of a week, I could actually play the thing,
the guitar,

and that, was only 'cause I'd played piano and gotten good at that.

And I too, believe it or not,
in the beginning felt innately convinced of my absolute superiority
being a piano player in a world full of guitarists.

Until I discovered my inner guitarist.

Plus, you're right, they are a heluva lot easier to lug around.

No. sometimes is fun to 'do' strings or something on a keyboard, but a piano is a friend. I guess guitarists feel the same however.

Oh I haven't had an actual piano in ages.

If I ever do become rich as pugnacious fuckall,
yeah, I wanna get me a nice Steinway Grand,

maybe even a 'D' (that's the huge one)
or if not, maybe a 'B' (that's also big, but doesn't need enough space
to park a yacht.

My keyboard has a very decent array of sampled instruments,
including various pianos, and it is nice, to just play the piano sometimes...

for one thing, I get different ideas....

I can go at inventing a song with guitar,
or I can do the same thing with a piano,

and I'll get different ideas... which is good.

Ideas are never the problem. It's when they run out....

A piano is a friend.

Spoken like a true piano owner.

Wait till it's out of tune,
and you wanna throw your 'friend' down a flight of stairs.

Do you have your own tuning fork and hammer?
Save you a lot of money if you know how to tune your friend yourself.

All good instruments have the potential to be friends.
And lousy ones, they're enemies.

It's a shame that pianos and hammond organs are so heavy. I've never played a synth piano or organ that sounded like the real thing.

I have a few keyboards including a Yamaha Motif 8 that looks, feels and sounds like a real piano but I use a smaller one most of the time now.

I ah e a motif, too. Has pretty good piano sound feel. But you know what I like better? My cheap piano.

They have resonance with the center of the universe.

hello to piano lovers and lovers of pianos, here is my old beater, this is a demo I did to show how a piano works, one of my originals. "Changes", I have a video performing this song at blue frog studios which is more pro sounding using a grand piano and better recording equipment.

Well, two things, I can say about pianos.

Yeah, they're heavy.
I kinda lifted one once,
and I'm sure that has absolutely nothing to do
with that I now have a hernia.

Didn't even do it alone.
I remember, I was a tiny kid,
the piano was delivered,
two big strong men carried it in. Two of 'em, just two.

Like they did it all the time, and I'm sure they did.

Now, years and years later, when we moved,
we got a homespun moving outfit,

and it was three guys,

and believe me when I tell you,
it took, those three guys, plus me, (and I was 13 by then)
carrying that f-ing upright piano which I believe
was manufactured from an outfit called "Armstrong".

Nah, I got the hernia way later,
must have been all that having to move from here and there...

I am as God wants me to be.

Don't tease me about my hernia, please. Anyone. Ever.

Oh, and I used to install the damper heads
on grand pianos, for Steinway and Sons, in Astoria, NY.

Back breaking work. Lasted six months, said 'okay, that'll do.'

I moved a piano out of the home i owned in maybe 1974 then I lifted my piano on to my pickup truck and took it to a gig,got help there, then brought it home unloaded it ,took it back in, myself, I was a strong SOB back then ,and hauled around monster keyboards, one was 150 lbs. other one about 80 and my mofu amps, did this all myself, cant do it now, but do have lighter piano keyboards that have helped considerably. now I would not recommend anyone else try it, some can do it, but i was a beast back then, not now

I gave away my upright wooden framed piano, to a cop who wanted it for his kid to learn on.
The frame had a hairline crack, so the piano was tuned a half tone flat. It was a crappy lump of wood, not soft and warm, but hard and cold,

My dad had a good "Challen" piano, it sounded great and he could play it like a demon.

I don't miss my piano, but I miss my dads one...
