Microphones
Any opinions on the best microphone for a pianist, and what sort of setup - mounted on the piano or something that clips on? I need a new one!

Mic for piano itself and or vocals Francesca,the ones that are the best for miking up a grand piano are DPA's.I used those at blue frog on a grand when I performed there and recorded at the performance center for my 1st cd, these ones here are pro and produce superior results then most, but big bucks, 4099P Stereo Microphones
Do you have a upright or grand, go to your music centre for advice. there are many kinds that produce terrific results though, budget of course is a thing we all need to be concerned about, have fun!

Steve Ison would be the guy who could help you, he's a pro ,probably the best at this question then me, I still have to get something better myself. There are probably lots of other artists who a real fine singers and i am not one of them. I am a rocker from way back and dont do the refined awesome vocals like you and him and many others
just a gritty raunchy average dude at singing, my range is about 4 notes d- g lol

well I don't know if this is true because I sort of find the haggle over mics to be imaginary and can't imagine people who can actually tell much of a difference, but I heard the AKG brand of mic around the $400 range aren't that far from being a Neumann, so I bought one and I've been happy with it. Then again some serious-assed producer would probably kick me in the head for saying this.

CAD Trion 8000. Will give Neumann's a run for a fraction of the cost.
