Intro to Lee B
Hello all, I'm new to these parts, on indiemusic, and thought id introduce me,

im lee burke, live in small place in uk, and wrote the song 'big things come in small packages',

which is my first single, and many more to come. I didn't know there was a great site like this one or a listening community for indie songwriters so its a pleasure to be here, and hope everyone enjoys listening to my love songs.

if anyone has any queries on songwriting or guitar techniques which they cant get the answer anywhere, I might know, as I tend to enjoy sharing my music knowledge to help others :)
I have a skill for tunings, as I can tune the guitar to any notes, and figure out where all the chords and notes are by ear, then I plot the new fretboard diagram, and find all the playable patterns on it.

I been doing music since young age, and playing since, there was also the university gap tho, and after Uni started taking my music more seriously. As the course I was taking at uni was the wrong subject :\ I wrote a song called UniLife while at uni, then nearly won on an open mic contest, but I had to stop singing it because my housemate had wrote the lyrics and they weren't clean lyrics lol so i thought i cant sing this, although the audience were wanting an encore lol.

I'm still learning with songwriting and stuff, and everytime I write I feel I'm learning something new, so I suppose music is always a learning experience thats my perception on it anyways, its discovery island.

What kind of tunings do you use, the kind like David Crosby and Joni Mitchell? i've played songs from their songbooks and they seem to have a batch of different ones.

Hi, Father time thanks for the compliment,

With open tunings yea theres a lot to play around with,
and if you use too many at once, you'll just get even more confused,
so i'll jot down some basics for you.

the best tunings to start with are
open C
open G
open D
etc

as these allow you to play your normal chords,
and play an open scale covering the entire fretboard,

for a good resource on open tunings
wikipedia as a good file

and for learning all your main chord shapes
Eg (if in open C, will be C Dm Em F G Am Bm)

and to get all your notes for that tuning
so you know where to solo, you can use a scale finder,

EG, if your in open C, search for C major scale to get
your notes covering the fretboard, any note will blend with what you play,
whether it be pull off, diad, hammer on, slide etc with the open strings
you can also search for C pentatonic and jazz scales in open C too.

if you did this with every tuning open tuning A - G
then you got the minor aswell, its enough material to keep ya goin lol

thats the bare bones of open tunings anyways,

The tunings I use, mostly open C, Iris tuning is good too & some of andy mckees tunings are
fun to play around with.

I havn't looked at joni mitchells songs yet but glad u mentioned, because i like both there music, really gud stuff.

I never heard Birmingham described as "a small place in the UK" but it probably would be small by US standards

Really nice tune man... very heart felt. Love the quietness and minimalist of it. No heavy production. Doesn't need anything else just a better recording.
Though I have to say... the guitar melody line was a bit familiar... Tears in Heaven.
Good song nonetheless.
