Singing
I have always had a problem with singing i don't like the sound of my own voice when i sing it never feels right. Even though when i do karaoke and bv and stuff no-one complains. Anyone any advice how i can over come this feeling?.

People tend to be somewhat forgiving when it comes to karaoke but that’s not the criteria you should use to judge your own voice. When you’re doing professional work it needs to something you can be proud of. If you’re singing on a song you wrote, make sure it’s in key and a style that suits your voice. This will build your confidence and make you more comfortable with the sound of your voice. Practice may not always make perfect but it helps!

I sang in a choir for a while. Did wonders for my singing chops. Learned a lot of good stuff. If you have a local group where you live, join in, just for fun.

Hi!
It helps me a lot to observe.
For example, if I want to raise a voice similar to X artist, I look at his performances live and I see how he places the face, the mouth, the body...
Think of how you want your voice to sound, look for an artist and observe and practice, practice and practice...recording even if it is difficult for us all to listen to ourselves is a very direct and effective way to detect what we don’t like and change it. I hope I helped you out.

Agree about practice - the more the better to get technique - it's so much about breath support and adjusting your body to be comfortable in all areas of your vocal range. You have to sing a lot to get to know your own voice and how it feels and what feels natural and good to you. Also you have to be careful about judgment. You might be comparing yourself too much to other singers - even comparing yourself to a sound in your own mind - how you think it ought to be. Everyone has their own individual sound and if you sing from the heart, it's always perfect.

A good vocal coach will do wonders for your voice and confidence. I vocal coach teens and it is always such a joy to see them grow with confidence in their vocals. What people often fail to acknowledge about singing is that the voice is an instrument that needs to be tuned, worked out and polished daily. It is just like any other muscle in the body. If you don't use it you lose it. The more you use it the better it gets. In the early years I was a member of a five man acapela group. I found that five part harmony is the hardest thing yet. Every voice has to be spot on. We rehearsed from dusk till dawn daily for many years before we even let anyone hear us. By then, we were all vocal athletes. That turned out to be the best vocal group I was ever in. It was great experience. So, other than the vocal coach maybe try joining a church choir. You will get practical vocal training for free. Plus your voice will be getting a regular workout (which is a healthy way to build up stamina) and exposure to the public.
One way to get good feedback is to join a local songwriting organization and attend their monthly open mic sessions. You will not only get good feedback on your voice but, your songs will get more real time exposure. Singing is work and you only get out of it what you put into it. I have heard many or=f your recordings throughout the years and I have never had an issue with your singing. Being on key is the crucial part and you always seem to be on key. As far as liking the sound of your own voice, well. Welcome to my world. I have never liked the sound of my voic either but vocal tone is something that you cannot change. It is what makes us all unique. The way we sound is the way we sound. Eventually I accepted that and became okay with it. Thousands of recordings with my voice on them and I am still trying to get better. Regardless to the fact that I know i am in decline due to my age. I am still trying to bring forth that signature performance that leaves me totally pleased with myself. Hasn't happened yet. Maybe this year. We;ll see. Keep doing your thing! Its worth it!

Thank you for the advice gave me a lot to think about. I know i can do it i think it is a lack of confidence in my voice. It,s hearing all the great singers on here how can i even get close. But singing and songwriting comes from the heart the soul and then the mind. If the heart and soul are complaining. But sometimes it just clicks and i sound good but it is very incosistent ho hum. It,s not like any other instrument where i can light the fires immediately

Something that helps me is these days i’ll transpose anything to put it right in my favorite part of my range. I don’t give a thought to original key of my own or othe writers’ material. I’ll mess with the key until I know it’s the best one for my voice.
I often tend to write things higher than I should actually perform them.

Think of it like acting. You need to get the emotion right. If you do that--really nail the feel of the thing--people will be willing to forgive if you don't nail the note exactly right.
That's not to say that pitch isn't important. It is.
But practice nailing those notes. and then when it comes to recording it -- forget about it. Just GO for it. Muscle memory will take over and help you at least get close enough.
Get the emotion right.
