INVADERS FROM MARS

How far is Mars from Earth?

On average, the distance to Mars from Earth is 140 million miles (225 million kilometers), according to NASA. However, the distance to Mars from Earth is constantly changing. Like a pair of cars on a racetrack, Mars and Earth orbit the sun at different speeds. Earth has an inside lane and moves around the sun more quickly. Plus, both have elliptical orbits, rather than perfect circles.

In theory, the closest the planets could come together would be when Mars is at its closest point to the sun (perihelion) and Earth is at its farthest point (aphelion). In that situation, the planets would be 33.9 million miles (54.6 million kilometers) from each other. But that has never happened in recorded history. The closest known approach was 34.8 million miles (56 million km) in August 2003.

At the other end of the scale, when both planets are at aphelion — their farthest distance from the sun — and the two worlds are on opposite sides of the sun, they can be 250 million miles (401 million km) apart — a whopping 7.37 times the closest possible separation.

In their race around the sun, Earth on its inside track laps Mars every 26 months. This close approach provides an opportunity — a launch window — to send spacecraft to the Red Planet. Rather than pointing the spacecraft at Mars, engineers aim it in a wide orbit around the sun. The sun's gravity gives the spacecraft a boost — called a gravity assist or slingshot effect — saving time and fuel. The spacecraft's orbit then intersects with Mars.

hey Steve, thanks for sharing some insight about Mars, gotta watch that movie too!

I hope to have Mars in my Solar Winds project, I have new material I uploaded here recently and experimenting with the Solar Winds song, it sounds stormy and unnerving at times. Strange unusual things are going on in the composition yet I may just deep six it and start over. Trying to combine acoustic with electronic ,that is a task

cheers

Yo Bryon,

Your music is interstellar these days, no?

The red planet, so called. H.G. Wells "War of the Worlds." Prob'ly named after Mars, the Roman god of war, who loved "seas of blood," Homer tells in the Odyssey. All the planets derived their names from Roman mythology (who took it from the Greeks, and rearranged their names), Mercury, the winged messenger God, Venus, the goddess of love, Jupiter, king of the gods, Saturn, the ol king pre-Jupiter, who sided with the Titans against the gods on Olympus, Uranus, older than Saturn, the original earth god, Neptune, with his trident, god of the oceans and seas, and Pluto king of the underworld.

Or is there an archetypal premonition, you know "here to serve man." IT'S A MENU.

Hi Steve, yes, kinda spaced out these days and intrigued with the workings of the Solar Winds project and the synths I have and soundscaping getting those far out crazy tripping grooves, i am probably gonna sell my solina I have had from 1974 and a few other synths from back in the 70s and 80s as well as my Roland fantom XR module as i really dont use them much and not performing live the last 5 years ,so no point having them, I can use plugins, but saying that, I am going more organic piano wise ,i want that live natural element that captures the truth of sound and the way i play.

In other news, I am working with an author who is writing a work based in ancient England 5000 years ago, then jumps to the time of Stonehenge and based upon a creature that morphs from a Raven to human or any type creature who ruled a religious cult and cast its control like leaders of this day and age. Politics is a cult like thing, as they control peoples minds and manipulate and influence them due to their ignorance and tribal mindset

anyways, they are interested in my music which fits the organic underground feeling as i am able to capture unique and unusual sounds with some of my recent classical and ambient songs. It is a ways way down the road, although there are never guarantees, i could be featured in it as a special release of art, book and music wrapped up in a book online and perhaps on their youtube channel

I might start a whole new channel at youtube with a specific type of music that embraces a more organic natural sound of piano with various treatments that i have learned how to use and have benefited by getting a whole new fan base elsewhere who like that type of music, so i am heading in that direction and after I release Solar winds, I am returning to my roots of just piano in classical and ambient influenced works. Going away from my attempts at multi instrumental tunes as I think I have about exhausted that side instrumentally

Many thanks for the review/commentary on "Villains in America." Your work on building the "atmosphere" musically was a grand collabro, and provides, well, "atmosphere."

I enjoy our collabros, m'friend, and learn from them, and that's what it's all about. Kinda busy on my new project, a book, hoping to bridge the divide between the arts and sciences.

Good luck on your new musical direction.

About the Raven...

"In captivity, ravens can learn to talk better than some parrots. They also mimic other noises, like car engines, toilets flushing, and animal and birdcalls. Ravens have been known to imitate wolves or foxes to attract them to carcasses that the raven isn't capable of breaking open."

1. Ravens are one of the smartest animals.

When it comes to intelligence, these birds rate up there with chimpanzees and dolphins. In one logic test, the raven had to get a hanging piece of food by pulling up a bit of the string, anchoring it with its claw, and repeating until the food was in reach. Many ravens got the food on the first try, some within 30 seconds. In the wild, ravens have pushed rocks on people to keep them from climbing to their nests, stolen fish by pulling a fishermen’s line out of ice holes, and played dead beside a beaver carcass to scare other ravens away from a delicious feast."

Spirits of the Trees from my Haida Gwaii release song and 10 song album coming Jan 1 2019 to spotify, already here at IMP ,been here for some time showcased it here months ago.

A raven calls out to his friends the Old Growth Trees on Haida Gwaii dedicated to the indigenous peoples of the former Queen Charlotte Islands renamed Haida Gwaii

Haida Gwaii, spirits of the trees

wish me luck on this one, so much in the way of great music in the world, beyond here and we are good, some are even better.

Thank you kindly Stoneman, and for your acknowledgement, This is where home is for me in these type of organic authentic works, at the piano, I find colors I could not in any other way. Most of my music is piano, and 95 per cent of it is this, I go to the piano and play, no thinking of what is going to come, i may have a concept, an idea, a visualization or theme, I just go to this beauty of mine and put my fingers to the keys and start playing, not improvisation, but something just happens, could be called improvisation, but i think i just tap into some cosmic plane or energy, yah, i dont think, I just let it happen and out comes some of the most amazing sounds tones and elements of magic.

Now with produced works, like what i do with Duane and Paul or Steve April or others I have worked with on the jazz pop or rock thing, that is scored out and I do a kinda music board and scratch out a thing after noodling away at the piano, get an idea, build a theme and then go to the digital piano, midi it up with the other keys synths and plugins and build it like anyone else would, still learning the trade so to speak, but 10 years later starting to get the hang of it all but a ways to go before I think I could say i am going to be a master like so many of you pros who bring it.

anyways. yeah.,the piano, nothing like an acoustic piano. it is magical
