Has anyone heard of Acoustic Alchemy?
Ive been asked to go into the studio for a day with a guy called Miles Gilderdale. He is not someone I have heard about before but I understand he plays in a band called Acoustic Alchemy who seem to are a smooth jazz outfit that seem to have been around for ages which is always a good sign.
The idea is that I go into the studio to work on some existing tracks and also see if I can work out anything new, obviously with his influence. Although its not by any means certain, it seems like a really good opportunity but don't know a lot about him or what sort of stuff he does. I was wondering if anyone had heard of him or the band and had any opinions on them. It would be good try find out what kind of thing Ill get out of this.

Ben, it looks to me like you've caught someone by the ear. Follow the links you've provided for some listening....GRP and Blue note are pretty prestigious labels. Will he be producing your next??

Dunno the individual, but I'm sure I've heard the name Acoustic Alchemy though,
It sounds like something worth doing Ben,
My old dad the jazzer told me that "you never stop learning" in music, there is always something new to appreciate that one hasnt heard or thought of before, I think that jazz musos are the coolest, and there is always something that can be gleaned.

I managed to find a couple of tunes by them on P2P a few years back, including "Take Five". They're very good, but I don't really know that much about them. I don't know how much stock you put in Wikipedia, but here's the link to their entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_Alchemy

I've never heard of him either but listening to one of the tracks on his site, he can play a bit.
If it's not costing you anything but time go for it. You can't lose, you could win.

Acoustic Alchemy started with Nick Webb and Greg Carmichael around 1987. When they met they played as inflight entertainment on Virgin Airways. In the last couple of years one of the two has passed away. I'm not sure which one, but thier music already had a good foothold all over the world in the acoustic jazz-fusion scene. My most favorite track is called "Red Dust and Spanish Lace". By all means please look up this tune and you will see the great quality of music you are about to be blessed with.
I've been playing most of my life, and I don't even come close to these guys!

Thanks everyone. Ive had a good listen to thier stuff and I am really excited about doing it if it goes ahead. I think they seem to be different enough to bring something new to the table but also there are enough similarities that we will be able to work together well.
