I know exactly where I was and what I was doing at that moment.
We locked the doors, didn't answer the phone, and were proceeding very nicely, with the TV on in the background, when events disturbed our progress.
It was a terrible downer.
Not kiddin.

I remember watching it thinking wow how does this still happen but its risky business and those who dare partake know it but it never makes it less tragic.

I'll never forget the words of a NASA guy saying on TV at the time of the explosion in an anguished tone of voice: "obviously a major malfunction". What an understatement :-(
I'll also never forget watching the first plane to hit one of the World Trade Towers on TV and the first words the commentator said we're:" It looks like the pilot was doing the "victory dive", a reference to Dive Bombers in WWII who went on kamikaze missions to destroy Japanese ships. A chill went up my spine. It's a trip how certain phrases stay with you forever.
