Amy AMY-oh no!
Amy passed away at home today

LONDON (Reuters) - British singer Amy Winehouse, whose hit single "Rehab" became the anthem for troubled celebrity culture, has been found dead at her home in north London, Sky News reported on Saturday.

Police said they had found the body of a 27-year-old woman at a home in Camden Square, north London, after being called by ambulance services around 1500 GMT (11 a.m. EDT).

"Inquiries continue into the circumstances of the death at this early stage. It is being treated as unexplained," a police spokesman said. A spokesman for the singer could not immediately confirm she had died.

Police had cordoned off the leafy street outside Winehouse's home in Camden, where around 20 onlookers had already gathered along with media photographers and camera crew.

Winehouse was born on September 14, 1983, to a Jewish family with a history of jazz musicians. She was discovered by soul singer Tyler James at the age of 16 and in 2003 her debut album "Frank" was released, to general acclaim.

Her second album "Back to Black" was released in October 2006 and reached the No. 1 spot.

The album's hit single "Rehab" contained the line: "They tried to make me go to rehab. I said 'no, no, no.'

Rest in Peace Amy-troubled soul

So this was a cry for help but how does one help a celebrity who has it all???

What a waste of good musicians.

Amy needs to aim her screwed-up but out the side door.
Where are those stage hooks when you need 'em. Hahahahahaha

How many can handle the reality of extreme success,- discovered at 17 years of age-always in the public eye, hounded by the paparazi???

“All right, tidy this up now,” said the supervisor. And they buried the hunger artist along with the straw. But in his cage they put a young panther. Even for a person with the dullest mind it was clearly refreshing to see this wild animal prowling around in this cage, which had been dreary for such a long time. It lacked nothing. Without thinking about it for any length of time, the guards brought the animal food whose taste it enjoyed. It never seemed once to miss its freedom. This noble body, equipped with everything necessary, almost to the point of bursting, even appeared to carry freedom around with it. That seem to be located somewhere or other in its teeth, and its joy in living came with such strong passion from its throat that it was not easy for spectators to keep watching. But they controlled themselves, kept pressing around the cage, and had no desire at all to move on.

VERY SAD!!! Feel for Amy and her family. The relationship between art and commerce, talent and celebrity, product and consumption, fraught with temptations...

She had such an original voice and style and who knows what greatness she would have achieved if she wasn't an addict - a tragic loss at only 27. I'm surprised at the cruel comments some people make - she was a messed up young woman and died a lonely death too young. Love her or not she's real loss to the music world.

I made my comment when that video was first posted and Amy was still very much alive - I didn't think I was being cruel at the time, just used to so many brilliant artists (some of whom I know personally) getting really drunk and drugged and me trying to be objective about them and keep a sense of humor to balance out the frustration of life on planet earth and all the ways it effects people. I don't like to feel sad for people or pity them. It makes me feel judgmental.

I wasn't actually a big fan of Amy Winehouse, but of course it's awful that she died so young.

Yes ---I was also more critical of Amy, when the blog first went up --now I realise she was on her last bender---a cry for help?

Ever heard of the 27 club? There are an awful lot of musicians who have died at the age of 27 including: Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and many others. Read about it here:

Word ... I love ya Richard ! but your last lines ... "Rest in peace all and thank you for what you gave us while you were here. Your music will live on through us."

is really all that was needed ...

"Should she have gone to rehab? yes, yes, yes."

I say No,No,No ... rehab is a damn joke ... the drugs didn't kill the girl, ... what made her do the drugs is probably what killed her

"It's ironic that success often comes to those who can't handle it and failure often comes to those who would savor and treasure success it for the blessing that it is."

I don't believe that for one moment, I can name you 1000 successful people that handle it very well to every 10 that don't.... I can also say my personal belief is the kind of "success" you seem to be speaking of here isn't much to savor or treasure and mostly nothing to call a blessing ...

"All suicides are heartbreaking but it seems even sadder when they are people with so much to give the world and so much potential for further greatness. Jimi, Janis, Kurt, Jim, Amy ~ who knows what they would have achieved if they had lived?"

In 27 years these people probably all gave the world more than many groups of 80 to 90 year old ever have ... It is not any sadder for someone to die at 27 than it is at 64, or at 97 ... and I guess I COMPLETELY disagree with the statement that these people died from suicide ... Drugs ALWAYS get a bad rap ... it's the user, the abuser, ... just like it's not the bullet or the gun, it's the one pulling the trigger ...
My absolute best friend in the world died a couple years back from complications of his drug abuse ... Do I wish he sought help ? ... nope ... Do I wish he didn't do drugs ... nope .... Do I think he committed suicide ... absolutely not ! ... He was my best friend because he was who he was and he did what he did, which made him who he was ... It would be selfish of me to wish he lived differently ... and if he had lived differently I may not have even liked him much ... and yes ... he was a relatively rich & successful man ... but that was not who he was ....

Could Hendrix play the guitar like he did if he wasn't stoned ? .... Would Janis ever have made the right connections and belt out those fabulous tunes if she was a librarian that stayed away from the drug scene ?
I've said it time and time and time again ... but nobody wants to hear it ... because it just can't make sense because the "EXPERTS" say so ...
Practically ALL of the greatest works of art ... in EVERY medium ... are the result of mind altering drugs ...
Where do you think the lyrics that Cobain and Morrison come from ??? ... It sure as hell wasn't from watching Mr. Rogers ... or playing Sunday Bridge ... and I doubt very seriously if they were singled out by "God" to receive the words they wrote ... they got them while visiting "another plane" ... I'm not saying it's for everybody ... but don't take the freedom of choice on how one wants to live or create away from them just because you don't condone their behavior ...

Done with my rant now ... :-) ... How are things for you Richard ? ... hope it's all good man ...! ... and hello everybody !!!! I miss and love ya ALL !!!!

Sam ~You've made some good points as you always do but some of my words may have been misinterpreted as I never meant to disparage the young woman in any way. I was just lamenting the fact that she couldn't or wouldn't get the help she needed regardless of whether it was rehab or some other form of help and support.I am saddened by her loss and not making any judgments about her or the way she lived and died. I just feel badly that another bright star was dimmed too soon.

I know a drummer you went into rehab and it saved his life and now he's doing great. That's the other side of the coin, Sam. It helps some people but it doesn't help everyone. If it just helps one person and that person really wants to give up their addiction then rehab does have a place in society.

I agree that many great songs were written under the influence. It would be naive to think otherwise. Many great songs have also been written sober. Everyone is free to have whatever feelings they have about those two forms of writing. It's not up to me to make any moral declarations about that.
I love great songs regardless of how they were conceived. Personally I don't drink or take drugs but I feel very high when I'm writing music or doing any activity that I really love.

Drugs are not the problem but how they are used can be problematic for some people. I don't want everyone to live like they're in Mr. Roger's neighborhood. I just want my neighbors to live.

Thx for your reply my bro ! .... there will be no banter between us on this subject ... I stopped in today to say hey and was going to post a blog ... but I saw Robbie's post and read through it ... After I've read every mean thing in the book this week from people .... well you know me ... I like to spout about people putting people down, especially when they don't know them, or even have a clue as to why people do what they do ... it's nobodies business ... :)

I will be back around soon .... had a botched surgery about a year ago and the Doctors nearly killed me since ... I swore them all off, stopped going to see them ... used my own mind and medicine and abt, two weeks ago I started feeling better and am getting stronger every day now ... oooops , it's late ... gotta get to work ... c u soon ... looking forward to catching up and checking out your new stuff
Peace ! Sam Cat

Thanks Richard and Sam for injecting some rough talk---between mates of course!

My Take on rehab, is that any drug taken with copious ammounts of alcohol will make a bigger bang in the end, and alcohol is the most dangerous and the hardest to give up of all the drugs---I have close friends who are IMO tending towards alcoholism, but it is impossible to mention this to them as they do not want help!!

Sam, I bet you have a story or two re your own battles with the powers that be!!!

Pip----cheers for that, respect too

Rob
