Suggestion
Ever considered adding a Politics and Religion SubTopic to this board?
I don't, but a lot of people do get perturbed by the hyperbolic threads on those topics.
I definitely want free speech to reign here. Musicians are usually VERY opinionated because...they care. I don't want politics or religion to vanish from here. Perhaps, though, they should have a separate section, like reviews does, to avoid really pissing off some people who observe this board but are negatively affected by some threads concerning both subjects. Me, I welcome opinionated and passionate posts. But many don't, and that may be a concern for the front page, which features all posts.
Just a thought.
Oh, yeah, and I do know this doesn't belong here, but I did it anyway because. And also, I thought it would be of interest in general and a good topic for general discussion.

I agree with Dan.
I seldom comment on the board for that very same reason.
People shouldn't be subjected to unwanted opinions. It's a turn-off.
Its ok if people want to talk politics and/or religion, but when the conversation turns into personal arguments, we don't need to see all that! They should just write private messages to each other in that case.
And sometimes postings that started out music related turns into
politics/religion arguments and then I just click out to read something
else hoping there's no repeated incidents.
Overall, personally speaking, I don't think those two topics should be on a board in a MUSIC site. It should be about the music. That's why I joined.
So Dan's suggestion is a good one, create a Sub-board for topics outside of music. Call it Rants & Raves, or Miscellaneous Topics.
The Moderators should consider the benefit of the board for All members
not just the handful that dominates the board.
It makes it look like there is only about a dozen or so members in this whole site!
Maybe that's why so many other members do not participate on the board,
because of all the bickering and insults slung from member to member
and others don't want to get caught up in that.
I sure don't!

Some might remember that the Pipeline was removed from the front page several years ago. Due to the nature and content of certain posts, it was offending far more than it was serving.
It wouldn't take rocket science to figure out too that such offensive posts present an uninviting web site for potential new members as well as for potential advertisers who would not want to be seen as supporting such a web site.
Just looking ahead - it's my nature.

How about drowning out the political content with some sweet bloggity blogs from the indie lurkers up in this motherfucker?
If you care about the image, improve it. :)

Noah, some people Do post new blogs every now and then, music related or non-political, and yet by mid-point someone turns it into a political debate with others. And yes, some people do get offended by what is being said.
I understand and defend the first amendment, but some people take advantage of it, abuse that right and go way overboard sometimes.
That's why there Should be a separate board for those who insist in posting their political and/or religious beliefs and ramming it down the throats of those who do not believe in their choice.
Other members will finally enjoy and post blogs here if they know it won't turn into a circus where people will hurl insults and epitaphs at them.
I think it was wrong of you calling fellow members "lurkers".
Thought this was a supportive community for Indie Artists.

see, the thing is, you are going offend people, like I just did there with you, only I did not mean to, but you chose to be hurt by it.
If we spend all our time catering to those who offend easily, there would be no reason to have a forum, because the sterility would be boring as fuck.
AND - at the end of the day, that sterile forum gets completely ignored, as history has proven time and time again.
You are asking for things in the form of site improvements, and these things cost money, and quite frankly, I grow tired of peeps bitching and moaning about peeps bitching and moaning, hahah
This IS and continually proves itself as being a community that supports ALL of the artists who contribute. Not just the squeeky wheeled whiners. (not implying you, unless the shoe fits, of course)

My main concern is the way it makes the front page look, sometimes, I can see that turning off new people who don't know what's going on. I myself contribute to that sometimes. And yes, even I can be embarrassed :)

I can see where you are all coming from. I am playing devil's advocate here, I think it is healthy to discuss this stuff.
Making scripting changes to the site is costly like Scott mentioned, and that motivates me to be conscious of others and the site's healthy appeal.
I think this issue with political back and forth deterring potential posters and new artists is a slippery slope argument. Mainly because site analytics dictate otherwise.
If we have a force of veteran blogger types (which we do) to help self police, we will be just fine, especially with a modest amount of moderation, which we have.
The fact that we are having this discussion is proof that as a whole, we do care about ALL of the artists here.
With that said, I am not against having a political arena for heated flames about trump and other political ilk, but I don't think Scott should have to pay for it. AND as far as image goes, looking at a specifically designated political discussion forum on the front page would look jenky to me.
It seems to me it would be pretty easy to drop certain threads from the main page when they go to defcon 2. Drop them into obscurity.
Maybe we simply need a couple of volunteers to help moderate is all.

I disagree. People need to be constantly assaulted with unwanted opinions. Like these ridiculously retarded college students who want "safe zones" where they don't allow freedom of speech because it might bring up "feelings." Or those dumber than nails Yale students who signed the petition to eliminate the first amendment. Or a reviewer who might trash one of our precious songs and hurt one of us so much that we may never write another song ever again because of the never ending pain. No thank you.

And yet dropping posts into obscurity has its own drawbacks. I think both Scott and I regret having to delete anything a poster says. I never delete. Worst I've ever done is move. Like Noah sez, there is a value to controversial posts in terms of driving interest. BUT. If a newcomer happens along to see "FUCK you- no fuck YOU!" he's likely to think "Them guys is krazzeee, bye" before even looking at any real discussion going on, and guaranteed, "Fuck You" is going to be the immediately identifiable post, the genial and informative music posts are invisible next to it.
And the controversial stuff comes largely from guys who have been around forever and we all know each other. I mean, if we don't WANT to gather other users, well, that's one thing. But, expanding IMP users is not only desirable but necessary isn't it?
It's not like having a separate forum selectable up at the top is hiding it. Like the reviews thing, it's there and people use reviews, including lots of newcomers. Just don't keep the glaring stuff centered on the home page, I'm sayin.
On the expense thing, I hear ya and agree. It's not like I'm clamoring for it, I'm just sayin. When doable.

I absolutely have my reservations about dropping threads into obscurity.
I feel bad I am broke and cannot contribute cash right now, but making a size-able contribution is a very high priority for me, and I will run into some cash soon, and I will be sending some Scott's way when that day arrives.

We have added a ton of new artitsts since the relaunch. The thing is, that generation is not really social in the same way us oldtimers are. They just aren't up for the pipeline.

Noah, it didn't offend me, just saw it as an unnecessary choice of word.
Also, I didn't make this suggestion, I just Agreed with Lyin' Dan's post.
Also, I had posted new blogs before and had participated in others
that was non-political. And yes, I too skip over when I see a conversation get heated, but initially the topic was something interesting that caught my eye and it isn't after reading to a certain point where that conversation goes overboard and I simply click out.
But twice now I read two people say they want to see new members get involved in the board, having new members join IMP altogether.
This spoke volumes:
"This place needs new users bad. I feel like I am in a fucking time warp. I know. We all died and this is some twilight zone heaven where we can all live our internet rock star lives in purgatory studios."
How we represent ourselves on this board is a reflection on this site as a whole.
Who would want to join if all they see for the most part is Chaos
and not as a forum for Indie MUSIC People who want to post songs, listen to other artists and share music ideas and info with their musical peers?
That was what I thought this was. A place For Music, About Music and Musicians.
There are many other forums on the internet if you want to discuss and/or fight over political differences.
Not so long ago Music Lover wrote something similar to this, and I think he was totally right. He also said people might be leaving this site due to this. Since I haven't seen him (or her?) post again, I have to assume he/she left the site and others may had as well (If the admin has a members count stat on his page, he might see whether the numbers fluctuates). And I can't blame them for leaving.
So, that's all I'm saying on this matter.
Let's see if positive feedback returns, or will it be yet another negative thrown my way.

Actually, although I was thinking of bankrolling such a coding change,
it's a lot of money to pull out of my budget, no way I can do it any time soon,

IMP is more than a business, but it is still one. Gotta have income somewhere along the line.

Well, I just meant it was a funny post, and made me laugh.

Politics tend to be only relevant if you're from specific countries except for very well known characters that have reached the international stage. IMP should be international I thought.
Religion - well that's a very personal thing and lots of people use music to express their own beliefs and are free to start stations in that genre too.
I don't think any topic should be banned but for me it's about the music, creativity, writing and sharing. I do my general blogging on another platform and only music stuff here.
I don't enjoy reading pointless personal slanging matches and try and avoid that too.
In between all that I enjoy the pipeline!

and have personally vowed now no longer to participate in any.
