Two Silo Complex

4/4/2016 9:52:39 AM

Look out world Two Silo Complex has evolved mark this day on your calendar is going down in history
After many weeks/days/hours of countless retakes and a few tears finally the day has come. The license for my cover song has been approved. It was a hellish endeavor since this artist was not part of songfile. I spent many countless days perusing the right place to submit and waiting.

WARNING!!! Once you listen to my version of this song that is coming it may ruin all other version of the song for life. Now normally I don't make claims like this. In fact I can't remember ever making a claim of this sort before. I guarantee when it comes out if you spend the time to listen you will not be disappointed.

I an not plugging for a chart ratings. For me this is way beyond charts. If this song does not get your attention I might as well go hide in the closet and put my guitar on the wall because its taken me a long time to get this far but this time I have actually achieved a level never seen before in my work. This is the most excited I've been about one of my productions ever.

Today I will present to you the Two Silo Complex version of the ever famous Paul Simon song "the sound of silence".

If you are not amazed and your jaw does not drop on the floor and any other version of this song are not ruined for life after you listen send me a artist mail that says "no such luck" and I will send you a response apologizing for wasting your time with a picture of my head up a penguins butt.

This is it folks. I have arrived after many years to toil and struggle I have finally arrived to a point where I can look at this work and not question it. If this can not stand then nothing I will ever do will stand.

Actually Todd I got some helpful feed back form some others I shared the file with in preview and I enhanced certain frequencies and this version is the same song but sounds even more polished then that version you heard.

I will post later today.

Thanks for your comments.

I would like to thank my guinea pig test audience that volunteered to preview this song and help me refine it

Hop on pop
Shoe City Sound
Stoneman
Byron Tossoff
Harvey Summers
Artic Sleep

I would like to thank easysonglicensing.com for providing the license for this song when other sources failed they were awesome.

In case you hate it its ok music is subjective it will hit some people the wrong way or be too slow or too sad or too whatever.

Here is some positive feedback
Harvey Summers:
"Love the cover - great version of the song… really atmospheric, love it!"

Artic Sleep:
"Hey... nicely done! It is even more melancholy than the original!"

Your the listener you decide.

Mazen:
"That's very twisted. It sounds like ending to a walking dead episode. Cool Stuff."

Noah Spaceship:
"it's good, fuck yeah, dude!"

Yep Shoe City this was performed at 432hrtz not converted. It gives the guitar and bass a slightly lower registry that I like. Unfortunately on keyboard you have to play at 440 and convert the wav to 432 hrtz guitar and bass can be down tuned.
Thank you for being part of the test audience and your comment.

Thank you Larree.

Noah was so excited and wanted to be the first to comment that he started his own thread @Ken tsc

Thanks again Noah I really appreciate that.

Richard Scotti left me a wonderful review in that thread I don't want to copy it word for word but here are some of the things he said:

"Congrats on a masterful and revolutionary version of a classic song. I've always felt that the original version was not as dark in it's performance and arrangement as the lyrics called for. Your version captures the bleak and apocalyptic essence of the song that I think it was meant to have.

You have created a aural landscape that immerses the listener from the first sound to the last sound. I felt enveloped in a fog of darkness where the guitar and the voices flickered like candles endeavoring to pierce through and illuminate the emotions and messages of the song."

You can go to the other thread to see his full message.
Richard your review was so powerful that I had to mention it in my main thread I hope you don't mind.
I'm truly honored and rendered speechless by what you had to say.
Thank you Richard its all I can manage without blubbering like an idiot.
TSC,
Ken

While I am thrilled by the positive feedback I have received. I know there are some out there they really did not like my version and found it too dark or too slow.

I like hearing all perspectives I've said before I'm not here just looking for fanboys.

So for those of you who did not like it if you could do me the favor of saying why with out turning it into a personal attack then I would gladly hear your side and I will respect your opinion for what it is as an artist.

I appreciate all honest replies both positive and negative.
Fire away I'm not afraid of what you have to say in fact I'm quite curious.

Impressive work.

I liken this, to the comparison
of the original James Bond; Sean Connery,

to the James Bond in the Ian Fleming books....
who was much more a hardass sunuvabitch bastard
than Sean Connery, who was the "Pop James Bond"....

Simon & Garfunkel's version of this great song,
was of course in and of itself great, but it was the pop version.

To the extent that one didn't really 'get' the seriousness of it,
until now.

You just made the book bond.

Incidentally speaking of Bond,
the present one Daniel Craig,
is really a lot like the book Bond,

so it's the Age and Era for Real,
and I'm more than okay with that.

You are correct Ken,
you have surpassed the original version.

If you ever wanted to understand
what exactly this song is truly about,
you all need to hear Ken's version of it.

It's no stroll through the park, it's dark, it's brooding, it's dead serious.

It's the actuality of the sound of silence.

Well Done, Ken.
Well Done.

~L

Thank you ALJ that was a lovely compliment. I admire your work and the work of many others who have posted on this thread as I said to Richard what you said ALJ is truly an honor.

I used 432 hrtz because I like the sound of it and for certain songs I find it very soothing. I also find it does not work well with faster songs or more rock style songs.
I also want to say that when I created this version I did not go into it saying well I'm going to make a dark, broody, and moody version but that is indeed how it turned out and how it is being described but other sources.

I modeled the low tones as done by disturbed. One of the the reason that I played it so slowly was while I was practicing it many times I found out when I played it at this speed the thunder hit the vocals in the right spot. I also played it very slowly because I was trying to play it very carefully and I wanted to emphasis the vocals clearly which is something I have had comments about not doing well in the past. So in this version I used all of my past experiences to create this one. I sweated over little details. Its such a well known and powerful song I said to myself hey buddy you better get your head on right and your shit straight to release this.

There were real tears in the process when my first attempts to license this were lost and the song was ready to go I was very upset. Also I did so many vocal takes to get the harmonies straight that I almost gave up. Some words previously from stonmean encouraged me. Get up try again, you can do it you will do it and eventually I did. I guess all of this came out unexpectedly in the recording.

I said to myself that this will be the best version that I can make it. Also partly inspired by your words ALJ as to make the best record that you can.

ALJ:
"If you ever wanted to understand
what exactly this song is truly about,
you all need to hear Ken's version of it.

It's no stroll through the park, it's dark, it's brooding, it's dead serious.

It's the actuality of the sound of silence."

That's top notch ALJ thank you.

Rob added my song to his station Indy spirit and gave me another fantastic review.

The community here has been so supportive and I've gotten really great press from here and some other sources.

So I said at the beginning look out world well now the gloves are off boys and I'm swinging full tilt. I tweeted a link to a local radio morning show and they "liked" my tweet. I also tweeted a link to the manager of Disturbed after I buttered him up a bit.

Now I'm not expecting anything will come of it but with out your support I would have never dared venture into such waters.
Hope there isn't any hungry sharks looking for fresh meat.

Ken
