"Rise"
I fall short when I should have stood tall
You set me up just to watch me fall
As I lay here on the ground
Watch the people gather round
None of them will lend a hand
They will never understand.
….
You can bend me you can break me
In the end you’ll never take me
I was born to heed the call
I will rise above it all
….
How many roads I’ve traveled now?
Long ago I lost the count
The path less traveled one that’s paved
None of them has shown the way
Looking for some kind of sign
Until that day I hold the line.
….
You can bend me you can break me
In the end you’ll never take me
I was born to heed the call
I will rise above it all
….
The line that’s drawn upon the sand
Washed away time and again
I need a fortress made of stone
Where I wage my battle from
I will not falter in the siege
You can bend but you can’t break me.

Bloody hell.

Well there's some brilliant frikkin' lyrics then aren't there.

So I set out, you know, go hear the thing,
and I'm there at your page,
oh, I see,
how novel,
no song here called "Rise",
did it float off already then?

Any plans to put the record out so we can hear how it goes?

Seriously, I was all set to set up a link for you and everything...

is there a song you have, yet, you know,
to go with these lyrics?

Alright. Next question.
You got something going already musically,
or can we horn in and write the music for you.
I figure it's no thank you, just 'cause we're annoying,
especially me, they're bad enough, but you expect it really.

You know, me, the living one.

Anyway, point I'm trying ever so gingerly to make is,
it's a righteously decent lyric,
and beckons a song goes with it.
Got a song that goes with it?
Or not so much yet.
And you want any help with that, as I imagine we could
come up with something hopefully worthy of it.

Hello ALJ,
This was recently written (as of yesterday) no music yet

Feel free to use the lyrics at your will. You can also change anything about them that does not work. Basically I give you full permission to do as you wish with them.

Steve did a fantastic job with "echo's of yor" his first version was really emotional for me.

All I ask is the writers credit as Two Silo Complex.

If you do make the record I'll be eager to hear it as i enjoy your productions.
Two Silo Complex,
Ken

Okay, this sounds good this does.

Already you have me and the boys fighting over the bloody thing I kid you not.

Well, I can make an ALJ record out of it,
or we can make a Bsex record out of it...

kind of imagine if you like what we do with it, you may wanna
do a version of it,

but look, let me ask you this,
and by all means I want to hear all ideas you may have,
including should it be ALJ or Bsex if we have at this one,

and my question is,
well obviously Two Silo Complex is the initial author billing,
it's your concept, then we came along, so yeah, you're first,
but of course, if we do this, we'd be on it too,
as in Copyright 2016 ~ Two Silo Complex/Lesley Jane & BEATLESEX

I think I've already figured out, that the boys being my backup band
in either case, I'll acknowledge 'em,

but I can approach this potent subject from more angle than one.
I am that way.

And, ideally, I'd like to come up with a thing which you would like,
and not feel is the bane of your existence,
awfully good sport you were with that Brady Bunch word can't
say have be or whatever...

so like, I can do it as an ALJ Superheroine Special,
Phoenix Bitch Rising From The Ashes...

or a 'guy been down so long it's all up from here'... kind of thing,
the boys say 'we're always up for such an eventuality as that...'

so, like, either way, it's all good,
point being, what would you prefer I do with it?

And are you okay with our name on the author thingy as well?
After yours, of course, we've addressed that, it's your concept.

Looking at these lyrics again,
it's making me think of Elvis Costello a bit.
Now and then I'll do one that sounds like that. Elvis Lesley strikes again.
Or I could be a Complete Dick about it, lot of that going 'round these days isn't there.
That's a politics joke, nevermind.

Well take your time, ponder what you might like it to sound like.
We're into doing it. These lyrics, jeez man, story of my life. So I'm
keen to hop on the horse and ride out....
.... and basically, what I'm saying is,

'if you could have this song, sound like,
oh, just anything in the world,

what would that be?'

'"if you could have this song, sound like,

That is a very good question to which I don't even know the answer. Something that has a strong powerful rock chorus

you have good ideas:
"a guy been down so long it's all up from here'... kind of thing,
the boys say 'we're always up for such an eventuality as that..."

that is one good idea

"Elvis Costello"
That is also an interesting idea.

"the author thingy" can be however you choose to word it depending on which way you go with it. I will leave that entirely to your discretion.

Looking forward to hearing what you do with it.

Okay then,
well as I said,
writers credit shall read:

Copyright 2016 ~ Two Silo Complex, Lesley Jane, BEATLESEX

and we're probably going with a Bsex record
ala Elvis Costello, if I had to make a guess....

it feels like that, sort of....

that's a guess, I really have at this point in time zero idea
of what it'll end up sounding like...

but I know we're going to get busy soon with this one.
Like I said, we're into it.

At present, as the Triple C program is discontinued,
we have no plans to have it be downloadable,

you can do that if you want. You know, and sell it if anyone wants to buy it.

We just wanna make the thing rock like crazy blue blazes.
It'd be an IMP Exclusive, as in not available any place else.
So that's all you if you want to do that.
I'll send you the mp3 when the time comes,
so you can post it on your page if you want.

Well that's the idea, mate,
we do a good enough job of the thing
that you actually want to be able to do that. That's the focus,
now we'll see what sort of picture we can tune in.

No telling how long it will take.
I do know, well we're not going to take just 'any old melody' that
comes along, it has to be 'just so' for it.
My philosophy is, it already exists, we just have to find it.

I'm hoping it won't take too long. But we're set to do it now.
We intend to do your work justice, and make an awesome record.

if at all humanly and spiritually possible,
(as I'm one, and they're the other)

I want you do do it the way you think it should be done. I don't want to limit your artistic creativity in any way.

I know however you do it will be amazing

I'm excited to hear it.

Well, uh, I'm gonna tell you, wow, thank you for the compliment, for utter real...
....and it's kind of coming along...... oh... good? Pretty darn...

...I was feeling the thing already when I mentioned Elvis Costello 'cause, uh,
yeah, I hear that sound in there, oh, a bit. A... lotta bit. A pretty darn old big bite of bit.

Sounding good though...

Be done 'fore you know it, said what's his name modestly hopefully.

I do wanna mention this particular incidental bit of information...

Believe it or not, oh, jeez, good few years ago,
way before I had anything going on at IMP,
(there was, back when it was IAC, which is probably where
the name Kayak award thingies come from... I may've had
a page here, didn't have much on it... then one day Scott writes to me
and says I oughta come back. Unt I did. )

well anyway, it's a song, few years old, good few,
forget how many I think it'll say on the hard drive....
Uh, I actually years ago,
made, a song, and then a record, called,
yeah,

"RISE!"

And uh, let me check.
Hey, that's gonna be OUR SONG isn't that some kind of fly in the ointment
(and what, the hell, flies keep flying into ointment for? befuckinyon me),,,

as ours is also called

"RISE!"

Now,

when I realized that,
"Hey, don't I have one called that?"
and that, yeah, I did...

I kind of hoped, I'd go listen to it,
think it was reekin' awful
(as sometime, I discover of a record I once thought was the bee's knees)
and then, that would solve that. Easily.

But, no... it's entirely different....

Well the one that's a Two Silo Complex & American Lesley Jane thing,
(yeah, it's you and me, they played their instruments, but this is simpler isn't it)

is like I said, coming out sounding,
oh like this guy named Declan McManus,
whose dad was actually a pop star himself in the UK,
Ross McManus, had a big hit with "If I Had A Hammer"...

otherwise known as Elvis Costello.

And it's a kind of rock n roll kickass thing,
believe me, I had no problem whatsobloominever feeling the lyrics.

That's our version.

My earlier take on the same title,

uh, it's definitely different.

It's like Your Mom (not yours particularly, mind you, I mean, in general 'A Mom')
telling you, don't let 'em knock you down, rise, rise, my children....
... it's probably sort of intended to be inspirational.

Might sound a bit Channel 13.

That's NET, or what do they call themselves now?
The thing Sesame Street is on if it's still on and I think by golly it is.
Big Bird must be about a zillion in bird years.

Is it quite hokey, my version?
Well, not to a hellishly painful degree....

Okay some would say to a hellishly painful degree, I'd better tag that.

But I still like the other, older, different, "RISE!"

So, uh, what do you suggest we do, as I'm about
to release a, oh a fairly large and gainful amount of records,
in time for the Golden Kayaks,
because
I wanna win me one.
I hope. Gonna try at any rate,
and I do have this backlog,

honestly it's so many songs,
that even eliminating the stinky clunkers
(don't ask how many of them there are, 'cause I am not gonna tell you, nope)
I still had to just grab a bunch I thought had inventiveness
(a quality Lesley Gore herself referred to when she heard my music)
and merit, enough to be released in time for consideration
for the Golden Kayaks. An odd image,
since were I in one, in the water, and the thing actually was made of gold,
any blend, 14 karat, 32 karat, bag of carrots,
I'd drop like a stone.

I wonder,

maybe,

maybe I should just leave my "RISE!" out of it for now?

I kinda have to think about that.

Part of me feels that would be kind of being mean to myself.
I'm mean to myself enough as it is.

I have to tell you,
there is no question,

you and I got the better song.

Compared to the "RISE!" I made four, five years ago? (maybe more than that)
oh yeah I'd say that's a safe old bet.

Mine is, oh, sweet, nice.

Ours, will break the ceiling of the structure confining it.

There's a difference. Subtle one.

Yeah...

I'd considered, for instance,
"RISE 1... RISE 2...."

eh...

time wise, mine came first...

but, on the merit of what's a better song?
I got to tell you, for real, there's just no comparison.

The other one's sweet, has a right to exist....

Ours is a (I hope... ) well it may be, and I hope to Dear God Almighty
that it will be, a serious contender for some Golden Kayaking,
figuratively speaking, of course.

So yeah.
Why don't I just do that.

Here is how ours will be billed.
And incidentally, it will be an ALJ record,
and once I'm done puttin' out a stack of records yay high
on the morrow have no sorrow...
on the top of all my new ALJ records?
Yeah.
That'll be ours.

Hang on... gonna enter this 'fore I lose it.
Finish up in a sec.

"RISE!" by American Lesley Jane...

Copyright 2016 ~ Two Silo Complex & American Lesley Jane

now when you put it out, on your page,
as I imagine you're possibly going to at that,

hmm, what'd work there?
"RISE! --Two Silo/ALJ" by Two Silo Complex...

is how it'll work out being listed, released on your page,
and yes, you have my authorization to sell that if you want,
that's yours, we do it 'cause we breathe rock n roll... we had to breathe anyway.

copyright'll be the same.. you know, that's how to slap it
in song description on your end when and if you do put it out as you may,

Copyright 2016 ~ Two Silo Complex & American Lesley Jane

...and as for my older version,

it'll be among the songs I release

(release the hounds!)

on the morrow,

(which is a stupid fancy ass way to say 'tomorrow')

somewhere down the stack.

Ours, will be the top song on the ALJ song roster once it's all out.
Before that, I'll have put out a stack of old BEATLESEX 45s...

(Millennials, you may not be familiar with what they are)

That's gonna be listed as "Rise! --not the Two Silo one".

or, "Rise, older different version that your mom made" I don't know...

Suggestions? Ours is better, it should be put first.
And damned if I'm calling it "RISE 2" 'cause, forget that.

Okay so it came quicker than I thought it would.
Thought I'd be days on it.

Then all of a sudden it was time to pick up the guitar
and grab the magic notebook. And there it all was.
Makin' the record, that's the challenge much as writing it...

Kinda means more to me that you end up likin' it
than if I like it, 'cause I can like me till the cows come home
and I won't even hear 'em moo.

I hope everybody likes it, hope it's a big crazyass bazingo zango hit.

Yep.

you know, on the publication of our song here,
it'll be up to you what you do with your own page...

'cause, like, I won't put 'em visible now, unless you tell me it's okay,
I was just about to, then I read that part again, uh-oh, better wait,

If I put the song on my page (which I probably will) I will label it as:
Copyright 2016 ~ Two Silo Complex & American Lesley Jane.
Performed by American Lesley Jane

Unless you have a different idea. If so however you want me to list it on my page I will put it however you want it.

Yes you can put the lyrics on your song page as you performed the song using those lyrics.

As far as the other song you wrote called rise I really have no comment on that it was something you did on your own before this song was created.

As long as the songs are listed in two different genres I don't see any problem with naming both songs with the original title.

If you want to further distinguish the song you performed with my lyrics from the original song you created then you may also list this new song as "Rise Above" if you so choose to do so.

I considered calling it "Rise Above" originally but I shortened it to "Rise"

I am very excited to hear what you did I will listen when I able to do that.

Two Silo Complex,
Ken

Added the song to Radio Ready station:
"American Lesley Jane performs his poppy Beatlesque version of Rise
written by Two silo Complex. ALJ- creates a pop/Neo New wave sensation with jamming 60's guitar and keys. In his traditional manner ALJ breaks boundaries sings with harmonies and brings surprises that enchant. ALJ creates this song in a way I would have never imagined."

one small technical 'faux paus' you left out one line at the end of the first verse
"None of them will lend a hand
They will never understand."

It great how it is.

Ken

oh my, I guess I did miss a line...

I was trying to sing it all
and keep up with the melody that came to me,
and oh well, my bad.

Want me to do it over?

I'm hoping you're happy enough with it as is, 'cause
I don't know how I could fit the extra words in the thing as it is...

Anyway, the copyright notice seems fine and all that....

I do hope you like it, I did my best to do proper justice to excellent lyrics.

I'm just in from a trip to the supermarket so I'm exhausted at the moment,
but once I catch me breath I'll go get the flash drive
and see if you wrote an email I can ping you back the mp3 on.

Gave you the address yeah?
American_Lesley_Jane@yahoo.com

Is the sound okay and everything?
I wonder if I should have made it hotter (drive it more)
but then it gets overdriven and choppy...

I suppose I could tweak it up if it needs to be driven a tad louder....
... maybe I'm just overly concerned about the volume level,
it's probably fine, right?

so the link you already have of it on a station, will still play.
Has the punch it was supposed to in the first place.
Which is cool.

I don't remember what your email address is,
so if you want an mp3 of it,
write to me at

American_Lesley_Jane@yahoo.com

or,

musicmanager2001@yahoo.com

take yer pick...

and I'll get that to you, no sweat.

....and like I said, it was fun workin' with ya.

L, over and out

That one line is a minor thing. Its great just how you did it.

Thanks for your outstanding efforts.

Thank you Ken. I am happy you're happy. I rather like it as well.
Sounds even better now that I made the level just so.
It's made it onto four different stations. Neato Burrito.

If you want the mp3 of it, well, like I said, write me an email,
or, concurrently, put your email address here,
and I'll just send it to you.

Or not, you don't have to have a copy of it, but I imagine you'd want one,
even if only to listen to in the event you didn't wanna put it out yourself....

Anyway, I think we turned out some good work. We should do it again sometime.

The song is now available on my page thanks to a little help from my friends. It is downloadable for 50 cents (which is the lowest price possible). If there are any sales since ALJ is a known supporter of IAC 50% of all sales will be contributed to IAC.

Thank you to ALJ for his performance and the IAC admin team for getting me a copy of the file.

It was a great team effort.

Two Silo Complex,
Ken
