Wayward son
I'm my life I've had many shortcoming and more failure than a man should deserve. I should know by now that you need to be careful when you ask GOD to give you something. I asked him to bring me a song I should sing. These are the words that he gave. I do have an arrangement for this one I just had to record it.

The path that I walk down has been full thorns
My spirit is weary and boot heels are worn
I’ve got to find shelter before the storm
Somewhere to keep safe from harm

Before by eyes a cabin appeared
By the look it had seen better years
But the sky was dark and the wind starts to blow
So I put my hand on the front door.

No sooner had I gotten inside
The sky opened up its blue eyes
But the rain did not fall down instead it did pour
So I lit up a fire to keep me warm.

The ashes the fall as the wood burns away
I know that there will be a price to pay
When I heard the wolf howling down by the bay
I got on my knees and I started to pray.

I said Lord if I speak let my tongue tell the truth
I know you don’t need me but I sure do need you
All of a sudden a voice from above
Said son won’t you tell me what you are scared of?
...
I’ve tried to tell you but you wouldn’t budge
So I had to drag you through muck and the mud
You are kicking and screaming and cursing my name
When it was you I’m trying to save
…
When did this happen I said to the Lord
It’s been going on since the day you were born.
So if you don’t mind it my son
I would like to fill up your heart
…
But I can’t fill up what is made of stone
So I’ll make you a new one that you can grow
So he reached straight down into my chest
And grabbed my heart with an iron grip

He ripped it out in one mighty tug
And swept up the dirt from under the rug
Upon my stone heart the father did breathe
The stone fell away and it started to beat.

It looked so small in the palm of his hand
When the stone fell away that was all that was left
And it was only the size of a pea
My son that’s OK we planted a seed
…
Together we can watch it grow
It will be the right size when you are old.
And he put that heart back inside me
The father said son now how do you feel?

I heard the birds singing and felt the bee’s buzz
I can feel hell below and heaven above
I’ve never felt quite like it before
It was a feeling I couldn’t ignore.

So I said to him father I sure do feel strange
The world it looks much different today
So tell me father what did you do
He said I did as you asked me too.

I filled up your heart I mended your wounds
Now you’ve got some work to do
It’s time for you to go back outside
And tell all the world what has transpired
…
My door is always open for you
I built this house for you to come to
So don’t bother knocking just come straight in
I’m always happy to see you again.

You can lie down here if you are tired
And warm your bones besides the fire
There are things in life that money can’t buy
Like the sound of your laughter or tears in your eyes
..
