I'm tired of listening to crap songs.
If the verses are bad, why wait til the chorus before you stop listening? Is the artist serious when they have a 50 second intro with absolutely nothing original or compelling IN that intro? I can't believe some of the songs being entered in this contest. I went to listen to one of those stations and I want my money back even though it was free. One gets the feeling that when these bands saw the word upload they misread it and thought it said unload... a full sized dump.

But Jeff, if I did that all my years of anonymous trolling would be wasted. :D
You take this personally but not every song was crap. Just far too many.

I am just trying to get the Troll to pop out of his hole, but it is a worthless exercise :)

There's crap songs in the contest ? Great ! More chances for the most excellent writers to excel. Nothing like being at the top of the crap pile !

Then don't listen. No one's holding you down, pressing headphones to your ears (I'm guessing). Without crap, the good music would not stand out. Besides, I hate musical competitions, battle of the bands, etc. Music is not sport, music is art, and very subjective. One man's garbage, is another man's treasure.
Peace, rock on,

Banana, banana, banana, you are so right. The catch 22 is you've got to listen to the song before you know it's crap. Some songs you know right away, which is a nice time saver. Life's too short.
The problem is this: WE ALL THINK WE'RE GENIUSES! Every musician on this site probably thinks they deserve more recognition for what they do. And we're surrounded by people who like us and want us to succeed, so they praise us for our efforts and make us think we're something bigger than what we are. I don't honestly know how talented I am - I know I have my strengths (lyric and melody) and my weaknesses (recording and some instruments).
When I was brand new here I asked others who I should listen to and got a pretty good sampling of some nice talent. But it's all a matter of taste. Like the poet said, "One man's ceiling is another man's floor."
And the others are right, without the bad music, we'd have no comparison for what is really good.
Happy listening.

I thought that was one of Blutos better responses, quite funny... and subtle enough to pull it off and make it funny. Nice.
I don't think I'm a genius btw. However I must state that when reading some others posts it is quite apparent they believe they are geniuses. :)

Check out my posted song..... I don't give a little and then let down. I admit that it is an old one and wasn't recorded in the best of circumstances but I think it's worth listening to. I am in the studio working on new material right now and I hope to have a pre single ready this week. I hope it's something you might like. I have to agree though that sometimes there is more hype than song.......

I don't think I'm a genius especially when I think about the work of Bob Dylan. It's really like a kick in the ass because the man just puts so many of us to shame in the songwriting arena. How did one human being get blessed with such an amazing gift for words? Musically and vocally, John Lennon was obviously another genius. Lennon's music/and vocals plus Dylan's lyrics - that's enough to keep many a songwriter humble but as Jeff implied: there are many over-confident artists out there. I try to maintain a balance between confidence and humility.

98% of everything is crap.
It's the 2% that is worth living for, worth writing and recording.
It's the 2% of all humanity's output that is worth pursuit.

You know, come to think of it, most songs that make it big are crap, too, not just at IAC. The good stuff is rare, maybe that's what makes it good.
Sometimes I wish you had to get a license to write songs - take classes and pass gruelling exams. But who would be good enough to teach?

There is not a damn thing wrong with over confidence...Unless you are Not prepared, unless you are doing something that can kill you, or unless you can hurt another with your over confidence.
Many people have been torpedoed by not believing in themselves... this applies to crashing and burning in a Job interview...or in a live performance in music. When you second guess, you make screwing up a reality.
Have you ever seen a mediocre, confident musician play live?? It comes off way better then an insecure genius. Most people respond to confidence...if you look insecure, your audience will believe there is something wrong...
I have found this to be the case...... Most people don't recognize genius ..... :)~
Peace!

It would be the unlicensed renagades that produced the great songs. The "crap" song that becomes hitts are the ones written by competeant but formulaic writers employed by management agencies to promote "artificial" bands.

I'll vouch for Larree. I knew Beethoven (yes, I'm that old) and originally he was going to call it his 2.7th ...
Larree showed him good, and the world was made whole.

Laree Said "I am the god of music. I appoint myself king by divine right. My music is the best fucking music there is. Period. I taught Elvis, the Beatles, and Eddie Van Halen everything they fucking know"
There is a fine line between Confidence, Genius, delusion, and insanity
All four can make a great artist :)~
