Artists as intellectuals, do they measure up?
I have noticed that they have worse spelling than any other place on the net with the exception of My Space teenagers.
Otherwise, I'm not sure, what do you think?

Artists are just very creakative. Since measuring involves math, though, I'd not expect much there.

I make mistakes here all the time , but most times try to be as accurate in spelling as possible and present topics or observations in a way that people understand without coming across as an intellectual arrogant know it all...that condescends and makes people feel like idiots,,I am just a joe scotch pack..and sometimes a joe six pack
but mostly a joe with a cup of coffee...: )

Sometimes spelling errors are unintentional typos, not a lack of spelling skill. But it is true that the english language has been taking a beating because of twitter abbreviations, shorthand used in e-mails and texting and the dumbing down of written communication in general. My friend is a professor who says that many students are semi-literate and need remedial training in writing and grammar.
I don't think artists are any dumber than the average population.

Personally I think texting is turning a generation of people into idiots that cannot write or spell.
