you continue to hold the high standard you set for yourself as far as solid writing, arranging and singing....British to the core and who could ask for more....picturesque story telling best enjoyed around a campfire or a fireplace with a cup of tea or hot chocolate....another gem to add to an already stellar collection......shines differently from every angle......deceptively simple.......emotionally rich......excellent mix and vocals. Kudos to the sidemen as well. They sound great and blend well.

Impeccable, as always. There's something about this that reminds me of something. And yet totally not.
Especially liked the impeccable lyric in the background, "yeah-, oooh" heh!

Your singing is great these days. You've become somewhat of a technician as a songwriter. On some songs like this one hears the craft more. Very good though, you don't miss often and you didn't miss this time either. :)

Maybe the 'technician' bit as far as the lyrics (which i struggle with and have to work hard on ) -never the tunes tho..The best ones flow out instinctively,playfully and are totally in the moment..Your use of the word 'craft' here implies a kinda cynical work-a-day approach,labouring,grinding n scientifically testing out different options to get something that works .A place where skill exists -but not inspiration..and the creative process is nothing like that for me..
You just can't 'craft' a chorus like this one by that approach imo -You've got be in touch with some inspiration n love to do it..

well Steve, the craft of songwriting is something not many artists are versed in, it takes a lot of songwriting to get to where you can rely on this sort of thing. I guess in my mind I separate my own songs based on what comes more organically and what comes from actually working on perfecting a tune, don't prefer one way over the other though.

I think the skill is (or should be) always a servant of the inspiration..
Its like you could have this amazing inspired punk song from an 18 year old who only knows 4 chords but who's totally in touch with the fire n prescence of his inspiration..If he dosn't bother learning any new chords tho,the range and style of his songs are gonna be necessarily limited- no matter what his inspiration..
On the other side-you could have a 50 year old muso who's studied music theory for years,knows a zillion chords etc -but if he's not able to get in touch emotionally n creatively with his muse and transcend the intellectuality his songs will be weak,dull n unaffecting..
For me,all the 'skill' i've developed,learning chords,understanding vocal rythms, developing a 'chromatic' sensibility with vocal lines,being able to change keys etc means nothing if its not connected to writing with a free-spiritedn quality n creative presence...
THATS the fundamental thing imo..
Those skills just give me a wider palette of moods,dramatic contrasts,rythms etc to draw on musically in my songs than that 18 year old,thats all..
