SLY WITT I'm Afraid I'm Falling
Woh...I love this song so much..Just great, great songwriting and beautiful creative strangeness..I love hearing melodies and chord changes that just make me go 'wow' straight away..Easy listening and edgy psychedelia is a great mix!

I listened to this song earlier today cause I thought it had a promising title. I disagree with you totally. I thought it was pretty weak, and I don't think the song's obvious flaws are deliberate. I don't see how on earth you get off comparing this to Baccarach and Thomas Dolby. I found the male voice geeky and just mediocre. You must be desperate for anything these days.

Well i'm listening to the intuitiveness of songwriting and melody, wheras your comments are totally ignoring that side(typically as people do)-as you only hone in on the voice-which isn't to your taste and can't see passed that..

Steve, I agree with you that this song shouldn't be judged from that perspective and I did hear some Bacharach shifts - however I think I wouldn't go so far as you and the artist's own 'sub genre' de_scription sums it up more for he. "happy trippy singy songy" summed it up more realistically. It did have a heavy loungey feel too...and The last waltz is on my mind now. So I'd fool somewhere between the two bar stools on this.

Maybe i was being a little overblown lol in the heat of instant enthusiasm Jilly-but ..Chord shifts, intiuitiveness of melody and being taken by SUPRISE in a tune is just what i naturally respond to and get excited about..And i know its (obviously and sadly imo) not the main thing that turns people on in the modern world..The other stuff voices, production etc i like too-but if a songs not there i'm never gonna be seduced by that......With a little stretch of imagination you could hear this done by Dusty Springfield as a 60s ballad and people would've totally loved it..
Besides,i LIKE his vocal on this anyway and the songs obviously good..I'd've been delighted to come up with a tune like this..

Wow! Talk about a split decision.

Unfortunately, I don't have Steve's ear and head for comparisons, you know, like "Sounds like Aretha Franklin and Hermoine Gingold jammin' with the New Cristie Minstrels" sort of thing, but I could definitely get the Thomas Dolby and Burt Baccarach references.

And Jeez, Bluto, the "obvious flaws" comment implies you knew what it was "Supposed" to be. I'll allow that the vocal is raw, rough edged and perhaps a taste thing, but overall I thought it was pretty cool. If anything, I wish he'd come out of the pyschedelia section with a little more pow and duration of the original theme, but overall a nicely done, not mainstream piece.

On my newly minted, "Golden-Broken-High-G-String" scale(1 - 5), I'll give it 3.5 broken strings!

Cool tune!

I went back, listened again and to be fair, I did like the psychedelia part that started at 1:50 in the song and lasted about a halfminute but normally I never would've gotten that far, the song would've been pushed to the curb at the 30 second mark.

I take the songwriting into account, I just didn't think it was anything special.

I think it's pretty tripped out, and bold. I just think the vocalist kinda sounds sometimes like he's just joking around.

Way creative stuff going down, though.

Nah. This guy's got a song here. Different vocals might be what it takes to get over on a lot of people, but creativity is out in force.

Dig the ending.

more clarity in production for the FIRST part of the tune --- up until the TRIPPY/stravinsky/dolby-esque stuff... would go a long way. BUT definitely a tune with some thought & craft in it. His vocals would be fine if picked up LOUDER & clearer and just a wee bit more SOLID and bold.

Just my little opinion. I like the unique playin' with melody & harmonies --not everybody can do that -- this guy's COOL in my book.

I'm new here. I hope it's not inappropriate to comment on a thread about oneself. If so, my apologies in advance.

It's bit ironic. This tune was inspired by an argument where I lurked on another site almost exactly like the one here between Steve and Brutus....and Steve was in on that one too. The argument was about "Photograph" by Apple. Steve liked it and the other guy thought it sucked. The thread went on about bad vocals versus good chords and psychadelia.... so I decided to try and tackle a good chord change song with psychadelic overtones. I failed miserably in getting a sound similar to "Photograph" but I somehow must have clicked onto Steve's vibe. I was quite pleased and honestly blown away that he likes it so much.

I have to admit that I'm not too comfortable with my vocals on this one either but, you know, the song just had to be sung.

A fellow in Texas is going to give them a go.If it works out, I'll end up putting it up here too. I just posted a couple of other tunes where I'm a bit happier with my vocs.

Thanks to all who took the time to give a listen.

I think that's pretty cool that Ison's discussion influenced some work. I mean, that's the kind of thing I keep expecting to happen with an artist site like this, you know? Some influence on each other and some growth.

I know I rely on talking music with the artists, and even stuff in their works can get me going. Would like to see more of that kind of thing.
