Rather than accost your sense of self in a meaningless, although possibly humourous, exchange, I'll just say that I'll keep my life, you keep yours, because I

Not one of his finer moments for sure. But if this is the best they can come up with to make Rush look like a sniveling dimwit I'll say they need try harder. His reaction is pretty poor, quite out of character. But the caller is apparently responding to something that isn't in this clip so the context is broken as it usually is when it comes to this sort of thing.

I'm curious how many of you actually listen to him and how many of you only know him through clips like this and what other people say about him. I'm a regular listener and I know that the statement about him not taking calls from those who disagree with him is quite false.

I know I'm very much in the minority here and I have no illusions or intentions of changing anyone else's thoughts. Believe me, being an artist and a conservative makes me a supreme misfit, here and at work and many social and family gatherings. But basically if you believe in Capitalism and less government control you're probably going to agree with him. If you believe in Socialism and more government control you're not. It's pretty simple.

"But basically if you believe in Capitalism and less government control you're probably going to agree with him. If you believe in Socialism and more government control you're not. It's pretty simple."

Simply not true Stegor ... It is no where near simple ...
I believe in a lot of Socialistic programs ... I also believe in Capitalism that is honest but because it's mostly not ... I believe it's Government's responsibility to regulate Corporations or things like the banking fiasco happen ... but I believe in less Government regulation upon the individual ...

... and I used to listen to Rush ... and I'm sorry to say that these clips portray him just as he is ... He's a big time HATER ... and folks like him are not good for America ... He is a CORPORATE puppet ....

Like I said, I don't expect to change anyone's thinking any more than they'll change mine. I do think it's pretty simple. And I don't see Rush as a Hater. I wonder if that makes me a Hater in the eyes of some. If he's so filled with malice and I agree with him I must be just as bad.

Do you really feel that the government is more honest than corporations? Of course there's a lot of crooked corporations out there because they are made up of people. But government is also people, making them just as corruptible. Businesses employ people and create wealth or they fail. Or so it should be. Government creates no wealth. Lately they've been taking it from the successful and give it to the ones that should have failed. But since there's a reason they should have failed they fail anyway, in spite of the government's generosity with our money.

I'm much more apt to tust a CEO than a politician. I want the CEO of the company I work for to be able to afford a corporate jet and a yacht. I want him to be filthy rich. The richer he is the more likely I get to keep my job. And in the process he's spending his riches on planes and yachts and goods and services that are keeping my neighbors employed.

In the first place ... yes I do trust Government more than Corporations .... We ARE the Government ... We do not exist for Corporations ... We exist for humans, which is what the Government is ... A Corporation only exist when it wants too, there is NOONE to be held accountable ....

"Businesses employ people and create wealth or they fail. Or so it should be. Government creates no wealth. "

Depends on your depiction of wealth .... I do not see money as wealth so we differ a lot here ....
The people are an asset ... the Government does not create them, but can lift them into an even Greater asset ... A Corporation can do no such thing ... ...

Corporations only employ people for one reason ... GREED ... The person is a disposable number ...

As far as you being a hater Stegor ... I doubt that ... but you asked if anyone really listened to Rush ... and I have ... Now I ask you the same thing ... Have you ever REALLY listened to Rush ? ... When I did that very thing, I STOPPED listening to him ...

He HATES gays .... He HATES immigrants ... He HATES anything not American ... He HATES AMERICANS that do not think like himself ....

He has ALWAYS been a huge supporter of the War on Drugs, which is one of our nations BIGGEST fiasco's ...

He supports building MORE prisons ... and throwing people under lock and key ...
He does not believe in rehabilitation, just punishment ... (accept in his OWN case)

He looks at poor people like they are NOTHING ...

He is a BIG time hater ... listen to his own words sometime ....

He doesn't care if a poor child gets an education or medical attention ... He ADDS NOTHING to this country accept making people angry, usually without just cause ... and that is NEVER a good thing .. he tries to pit people against each other and holds up every Corporation like they are some kind of God ... I really think the man is sick .....

"the Government does not create them, but can lift them into an even greater asset "

Sorry Sam, I can't disagree with you more... It is not the job of Government to lift anyone up...that starts and ends with the individual...Period. Sure the government can pass laws against discrimination and other practices that hurt the individual, but it is still up to the individual to educate themselves, work hard, and provide for their family. Far too many people think government's role is to provide.... the irony here is the Government can't provide shit without the hard work of Citizens.

.As Stegor pointed out the Government creates nothing...It simply allocates resources and assets created and earned by its citizens. Yes I agree it should regulate, that is part of "Governing" . Not all corporations are evil...just as not all people are evil. Sure, some corporations are inherently rotten, however painting with such a broad brush taints the dialog. Corporations provide Jobs, the best jobs require education and skill. (do you see a trend) Most corporations are profit seeking, yes the worker is hurt when profits are lost. Sometimes greed is a factor, the majority of the time its just business...welcome to the real world. The best way to combat this is to what???? say it with me..educate yourself and get a skill that is transferable. The government can provide training paid for with "our" dollars, but the individual must make the commitment to learn.

"We are the Government"... Talk about keeping it simple... We elect people to represent us, to Govern...but no sir.... I don't believe in any way I am the Government. When the Republicans were in power did you feel you were the government Sam>??? Please.

Rush is an entertainer, he pushes buttons... He simplifies and embellishes broad constructs and always looks a the other side as the enemy. At times he is a pompous ass, but I believe it is part of the act. Olberman does the same thing...and I think he is an ass as well at times... They both propagate the "Us versus Them" mentality. This is what simplifies things and hurts us all. What is needed is common sense and adaption....we need to find things that work without mortgaging the future.

The Government must regulate and provide structure so we are not hurt again by another financial meltdown. I do agree rules need enforced.. However, the Government is not there to lift us up... I will agree it can help create a framework for success, but it is still up to the individual to get their collective asses out of bed in the morning and do the heavy lifting.

Regards,

Jeff

... uhhhhh ... I think you misunderstand where I'm coming from Jeff ....

I never said it was Governments JOB to lift anyone up ... I'm looking for the right words to explain ... while I'm doing that .... I'll just say that Trusting Corporations over Government is ridiculous ....

The MAIN problem with corruption in Government is Corporations ... and the GREED that they create, which is the only reason a politician is corrupt ...

No Corporate Lobby .... No payoffs .... No corruption ...

By the way ... Bye Bye Lullaby is sounding awesome !

Some in Government are corrupt..... as long as Human beings and $$$$ are involved corruption will always exist. In Corporations, Government, ...any Organization.... PERIOD.

O.K. ... Here we go ...
You can't put everyone in the same boat ... everything is not as neat and tidy as that ...

First ... There will always be a segment of the population that does not have the ability or capabilities to get educated and climb the Corporate ladder ... What do you do with them ? ... Bury them ?

Second ... Whether you believe it or not, some people DO NOT BELIEVE in that system ... and just because they do not believe in that system makes them no less of an American than you ... or it makes them no less right than you ...

Third ... You have to be kidding yourself if you think Unions are even one tenth of the cause of Corrupting of our Politicians ... please !

Fourth ... There is a better way ... and we will get there ... but in the mean time GOVERNMENT must regulate even more than it does now ... It must be the watchdog it was designed to be ... It used to be that Corporations had to answer to Government ... Now the tables have been turned and Government thinks it has to answer to Corporations ... That's F*cked Up !

Fifth ... yes WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT ... even when REPUBS are in power ... see, only we can vote them into office and only we can vote them out ... We have NO control over Corporations, our only hope is we have a strong Government to help curb them ...

Sixth ... To get back to my point about Government being able to lift people up ... Public Education is a very good example ... everyone here can get one ... Do You think that is Bad ? ... Some countries such as Sweden even go farther and EVERYONE can get a free College education ... and it is paying off handsomely ... the WHOLE country is better off and NO ONE gets left out ... Why do those here that spout education insist on everyone must pay to attend ? ... We hurt EVERYONE by that type of thinking ... and a LOT of people get left out ... Why do people here say ... well he or she should work their way through college ? .... Isn't the purpose to get educated and get a good job, contribute to society and pay taxes ? ... Why do we make it easy for the haves and hard for the have not's ?

Seventh ... and most important ... You can't find happiness in the largest pile of money ever made ... but you can find it in a blade of grass ...

I must also say ... somehow people have gotten confused IMHO ... about the "AMERICAN DREAM" ... It is basically now a product of Corporate brainwashing ... LIFE, LIBERTY and the PURSUIT of HAPPINESS is the REAL "American Dream" ... No where in there does it say ... A sports Car ... A four million dollar mansion ... Golf Lessons from the club pro ... or anything else MATERIAL ... that is all a made up thing, thought out by Corporations ...

"First ... There will always be a segment of the population that does not have the ability or capabilities to get educated and climb the Corporate ladder ... What do you do with them ? ... Bury them ?"

Sam I am sorry you are so Jaded... it is quite sad. Why will "a segment" not have the abilities or "capabilities" to get educated????? Are those people Biologically precluded from learning? Is it Race?? What???????? Last I checked we have two highly gifted, educated African Americans in the White house. I am sure you don't think it's race...it must be the environment in which they live. Right out of the box Sam I cant disagree with you more. Who's fault is it that Washington DC schools fail??? it certainly is not the Governments...It is one of the highest funded school districts in the nation. No sir, it is thinking like yours that will enable this "segment" of the population to underachieve... sorry friend that does not fly. Lets just keep throwing money at them....and screw individual responsibility. Do some have more inherent challenges then others??? are their inequities?? sure...but if the individual wants to succeed I believe they can with individual effort, dedication, and hard work. Their path may be harder or longer, but the destination is achievable. Keep on making excuses and pointing fingers, it excuses everybody.

Your sixth point, ... No I am not against public education....of course not. And once again .."The Government" does not "Provide" the education..... it is the hardworking people that pay taxes. Most of these good people do not mind their taxes being spent this way, because as you pointed out it benefits everybody. Again, individual responsibility is needed to benefit from this education. As noted, the Washington D.C school district is a prime example at dollars failing to 'educate" or lift anyone up. The people are failing in the Schools, and any improvement needs to start with them..Period. The Government can allocate the "people's" earned resources to help, but the individual is responsible for lifting themselves up and succeeding. There are "segments" of the population that are failing in this regard...education is not valued. None can can succeed without effort...no one! I believe the fault lies with many Parents as they are failing their children by not emphasizing and demanding effort in the Schools.

Holo, You always devalue yourself when you attack someone as "cluless" who does not agree with you...it really makes you look bad. Their are opinions out there that have value., and you sir or MSNBC do not have all the answers.Look up "Ad Hominem" it defines how you defend your positions and it is quite flawed, and really detracts from this site. Stegor presented his opinion in a respectful way, and it disgusts me how you responded.

Again ... you miss understand me .... sigh ... The segment I am referring to are those with learning disabilities .... and mental handi-caps ... Also those children who have been failed by not only the System but their parents as well ...

If you have been put out on the street by your own parents, turned into a thief and such ... you don't have much of a chance in the "REAL" world ... that is not Jaded, it is simply stating a fact ... If a woman is forced into prostitution as a young girl and has three or four illegitimate kids ... What chance does she REALLY have ... come on ... There are MANY instances where it is almost impossible for an individual to escape the circumstances they are in ... Until you've been there you have no right to judge ...

Now how the hell Am I supposed to infer you are talking about those with learning disabilities??? Please.... submit many Tax dollars are spent trying to educate them and give them a better life.

As far as the prostitutes, and Children being turned out in the Real world... Come on Sam, .. you sound like the classic Bleeding heart liberal. It is not their fault...ever!

Who the hells fault is it that she has four "illegitamate" kids Sam??? oh...not hers right??? she must have been raped four times. Please.... this is silly and I can't argue against your way of thinking. How can I argue against helping Children... good one Sam.

So once again, we agree to disagree...

As far as the people being the Government...we already addressed that issue... The government through elected officials decide how to spend our tax dollars.. I vote for people who I believe will spend them wisely, and pass laws , rules and regulations that help.... saying "I AM THE GOVERNMENT" is extreme oversimplification.... we just talked in a circle :)... excuse me while I go and pull my hair out.

Before I start I'd like to say ... life is a gift and for those who read these short stories, if you have not endured the same, you should feel very fortunate indeed ... There are hundreds of thousands of stories like these ... and more than you can imagine ... these things occur EVERYDAY in peoples lives who are NOT as fortunate as you ... maybe you don't care, maybe you are naive that these things happen everyday, maybe you think you know but you don't ... It's pretty easy to sit back and judge people from a middle class or higher place ... but until you have been hurting from hunger, or physically and mentally abused beyond your imagination ... or literally spit on because of your place in life ... you are truly clueless ...

I'm going to start with Robert ... a very bright kid, I first met him when we were seven or eight years old ... We were poor, but Robert's family was VERY poor ... I'm not even sure if Robert knew who his dad was but his mother was a drunken slut, many men were in and out of the house but none stayed more than a day or two ... Robert had seven brothers and sisters, and one of his older brothers was dating a cousin of mine, so that is how we met ... She left me at the house while she went out with Robert's brother ... Robert approached his mother and said "Mom, I'm hungry" ... Well I was not prepared for what happened next ... She belted him across his face so hard it knocked him to the floor ... then she literally picked him up by his ears and shook him violently and screamed "God dammit Robert, you know we don't have no money and if you're hungry, we've been over this before, you KNOW how to get a meal" ... Well, at first I was just frozen in a state of shock ... but then fear set in and while she was still beating and screaming at him, I bolted out the door and went and sat in their neighbors yard ...
After awhile Robert came out and said "come on ... let's go" ... I asked him where we were going and he said we were going grocery shopping ... I remember thinking to myself ... Poor kid, I wonder if he has to go through that everyday to get something to eat ... I actually thought his mother had gotten over her tantrum and had given Robert enough money to buy something to eat ...
We got in the store and Robert was moving at a fast pace ... I was tagging along when I saw him reach over and grab a loaf of bread and stick it inside his coat ... I was so stunned and scared I had no idea what to do ... so I just hurried behind him as he grabbed some lunch meat and an apple and stuck those in his coat and bolted out the door ... with me in close tow ...
That is how Robert got ANYTHING at all to eat ... I soon learned of his scars on his body, where his mother burned him with cigarettes when he "misbehaved", and he had suffered a couple of broken bones by her hand ...
He became known in the area as one of the "bad" kids ... didn't stand a chance ... They were often without utilities in their home, even basic water was turned off most of the time ... he had NO clothes, and what scraps he did wear were always filthy ... He actually got expelled from school for lack of hygiene ... and his mother said they couldn't afford it anyway and Robert needed to get a job and pay his own way ... this when he was 13 or so ... He worked a few delivery jobs but not for long ... the employers would always make an excuse to get rid of him, often claiming he was stealing from them, when in all actuality it was appearance and his families reputation ...
He didn't steal to be a thief ... he stole to survive ... but it landed him in Juvenal court a few times and his record and his age prevented him from getting a job ... he got mixed up with a terrible man when he was 16, the guy talked him into going with him for an "easy" score ... Robert was just supposed to be a lookout in case of any trouble ... No violence the older guy promised ...
Well, they went to a liquor store and the other guy pulled out a gun ... the owner wrestled with him and the gun went off, killing the liquor store owner ... Robert got convicted and sentenced for "death by a firearm in the commission of a felony" or something like that ... it carried a MANDATORY 40 years ... Should he have used better judgment ? ... I suppose ... but I don't think he would have EVER hurt anyone ...
I ran into Robert a couple years ago ... He is about the same age as me but looks 20 years older ... He took some coarse while he was locked up, but no one wants to hire him ... his life has passed ... and it's sad to say but Prison was probably the easiest part of his life ...
What would YOU have done differently if YOU were Robert ?

I'll let that sink in ... and be back with more ...

Jeff you only say that because you obviously yourself like Limbaugh somewhat. It was absurd of Stegor to say that if you believe in capitalism you will like Rush. I feel I would've been dishonest if I acted like I respect him for admiring Rush. You can try to compare Rush and Hannity to MSNBC but I defy you to find stories on a daily basis that are distorted completely by Olbermann and Maddow. Limbaugh is one big pile of garbage.

Sam, no need for more stories..I will concede there are sad stories and circumstances that effect the outcomes of peoples lives, however I believe for every sad story their is one with a good ending because the affected chose a different path and worked hard to change their circumstances. Somewhere along the line Robert had a choice, and he made bad decisions despite the circumstances that were out of his control.

Holo, you can disagree while remaining respectful...try it sometime,
it will help communicate your message.

I have watched Olberman and listened to Rush in equal increments. I have a distaste for both...period. I can agree or disagree with an underlying premise while being disgusted and turned off by the presentation... They both have serious flaws in my opinion. I contend they are more interested in pleasing a demographic and entertaining then real honest dialog.

Regards,

Jeff

"Somewhere along the line Robert had a choice"

Tell me just what what those choices were ? ... To steal or starve ? ... at seven years old he had a choice ? ... He had a choice to turn his back so the cigarettes would burn him there instead of his belly ?

He had a choice to quit school ? ... No he was forced out ...

He had a choice at 13 to know what he should do ? .... Come on man ... He had NO CHOICE ... when you live in the ghetto you have the choice to survive or die ...

Oh Please Lars you don't have a clue what I am...

Sam, if you are going to speak in absolutes... "Steal or Starve" there is no debate... needless to say many have risen above the bad situations they have been put in...
I am not going to apologize for not "Living" in similar situations. My Parents were not assholes, they stuck together and worked hard. Along the way they instilled values and a work ethic in me...and yes I know I am blessed and lucky to have the life I have. That said, I have still worked hard in my life.... I could easily be "white trash" there are plenty of those from good families. I have a friend who is a drug addict...I grew up with him, he was my best friend for thirty years. He has Overdosed twice in the last six months, I am just waiting for the call that he is dead.

There are always choices...always.... There will always be excuses as well...
The Parents, or lack of parents, chose to screw the the kid up in your example Sam, he was damaged goods....every incident and situation is different, I am not going to argue the specifics of each case that is pointless. Of course I was not there and I don't know him.. I am speaking of the big picture here, and you are smart enough to know that.... I am aware that cruelty exists, and people through no fault of their own are hurt... Some will get through it, some can't. I have lost your initial premise.... can Government save him???

Ok, the topic is done for me, I have spoke my mind ..you can now bastardize my words :)

Peace..

Jeff ... I see no reason for you to apologize for your station in life .... But your reality is not the same as those that are in conditions that you have no idea how bad ... or apparently you have no idea how many there are in those situations ...

There is nothing wrong with a being taught to have a good work ethic ... and from your station in life, it was very possible, and yes some from there throw that away ...
but your idea is tainted when it comes to what works for everyone ... it is indeed a RARE occurrence when someone gets lucky enough to get out of the ghetto's ... there are success stories indeed, but you seem to think it's the norm and it's not ..

The pressures are so much greater than you can imagine ... Most of those people are not bad people ... or lazy people ... or many of the other things that people like Rush brand them as ...

I'd be willing to bet where you grew up you probably had a place to work ... you probably had access to transportation ... you probably had decent clothes for a job interview ... I was actually turned away from one of the first places that I applied for work because my clothes were not "proper" ... They were the best that I had at the time ... you got any idea how that feels ? ... They actually laughed at me ... I made it, but I was also lucky enough to get a break or two ...

but I had to LIE my ass off in order to obtain my first decent paying job ... see you can't tell the truth when you come from trash ... Don't even tell me about how everyone has the same opportunities ... that's a laugh ... I actually got fired from that job after they found out some things I'd left off my application ... and I've ALWAYS worked my ass off for whoever I worked for ... I'm not asking anyone for a hand-out, never have and never will ... but there are many that need it ...

I also understand that we do not agree ... but IMO you are dead wrong when you say social programs are what causes these people to be some kind of lazy bums who don't care about their life and have no work ethic ... that is media B.S. ... You think they have no incentive to work if they are on the "welfare" ... Well you show me any success story that a person has made it out of those conditions and I will show you a social program that more than likely enabled that person to have a chance ... These people have just as much pride as you do, love their families just as much as you do ... but they were not blessed to be born into a family where they stood a chance ... Social programs are many of those people's only way out ... and isn't that what you want ? ... someone not eating your tax dollars ?

I disagree with everyone in this thread ... or at least I'm saying so because I'm testing out a cool wireless keyboard (via usb) I found lying around. There's a mouse that comes with it too, but I think the batteries are apparently dead ... so it's not working.

I don't know where half the stuff comes from. I believe my son may have bought it at some point for gaming, but although cool ... found it too slow to respond, so he abandoned it.

For me, though, it might work ... dependent on the range. If I could go wireless away from the computer, I could reduce the noise from the fans while tracking.

Anyways, that's all I had to say about this subject ...

I'm going to get some batteries for the mouse ... well, that and a Jim Beam on the rocks.

After all, it is Saturday night ... but I don't feel like fighting ... even if it's alright.

"the noise from the fans while tracking."

Do like I did - drill a hole in the wall and put the puters in the adjacent room, monitor/keyb/mouse in the recording area. :)

I'm not arguing with Jeff, he's not here.

Eventually, I'm going that route ... but my son occupies the room w/ the adjacent wall currently, and I want access to the hardware before 1pm on weekends. :)

In the meanwhile, what I do to track now is use one of those remote usb devices that links up w/ Sonar. It at least allows me to hit record/play/stop etc when I'm set up in the "tracking room" (a.k.a. my daughter's room).

But most importantly, it also lets me hit the "undo" button.

That button sees a LOT of action ...

Sam,
You don't know a damn thing about me, you think you do...but you don't.

The honest to Gods truth is I went to a High School that was 50% African American and 40 percent Hispanic. Many were bussed in from the inner city because the government wanted to diversify. My neighborhood was not great either, I grew up on the border of Carson and Wilmington California. For those that know California, you know what I am talking about... I have seen people stabbed in front of me, and a body hanging from the goal posts on our football field. For Five years we lived in Hawthorne California. I probably have seen as much if not more shit then you have., and I am getting real tired of your "I have lived" stories for everything while talking down to others who you assume have not seen any hardship, or have experienced or observed enough to be as "enlightened" as you.

For the record again, My Mom was extremely poor growing up..she had nine brothers and Sisters...My Grandfather was a coal miner by day, a farmer in the evening and early morning. He worked his ass off, dying of Black lung at an early age. My Mom was born in the house she grew up in, a poor section of West Virginia...If you know anything about West Virginia that is saying something. I am the first person in my Family with a College degree...

Spare me the life lessons, I have had my share thank you, and have learned plenty about hardship from my Mom and others in my family as well. My opinion is as valid as yours Sam, you can say I am sheltered and don't have a clue..to that I simply say..."Bullshit".

Regards,

Jeff

True ... I don't know a lot about you ... only what you post ....

"I am not going to apologize for not "Living" in similar situations. My Parents were not assholes, they stuck together and worked hard. Guess I read that wrong ... if you don't like my stories ,don't read them ....

I have spent a lifetime watching sanctimonious assholes put people down that they have no clue about ...

There is a BIG difference between semi-poor and poor ...
If you have "seen" more than me ... good for you ... if you don't give a shit about anybody else that's your business ... I do ... and that's my business ... which I enjoy sharing because the poor seldom get a voice ... and I'll stand up for them EVERY day of the week ...

I also would have a beer with you ANY day of the week ... :)

Exactly the Vibe I get from you at times Sam, and the reason for my words.

To clarify, I appreciate your life experiences, and enjoy reading them..however at times you seem to diminish those who you deem have not experienced the same, or enough to have a valid voice. I have been accused of such a few times in this thread.

As for not giving a shit about anyone else??? That is simply not true friend...

I will have a Beer with you as well...

I'd only like to know where anyone can claim "higher ground" by virtue of life circumstance, rich or poor.

There is no "higher ground". There's only life.

The constitution states: "All men (I'll include females here, even though they didn't) are created equal".

We're all born different. Different eyes. Different skin. Different sex. Different heritage. Different family. Different economic circumstance.

"Created equal" is the first nuance that people misinterpret. Everybody has equal rights. During life, we deal.

But after life, there is only under the ground. And there, in a physical sense, we're all very equal.

So the way I view it is that above the ground, everything that happens is simply life.

Jeff to clarify .... I never thought you didn't give a shit about anyone else ... I said "IF" you don't give a shit that's your business ... but then again I could be wrong ... like you said "I really know nothing about you" ...

Sorry if you took at as my being sanctimonious ... I was only stating the truths that I have seen with my own eyes ... We all see different pictures ... You will notice in my post there are a lot of IMO ... and if I leave that out, it is not on purpose ... I read a lot of PERIODS in your post ... like it is an absolute ...

I still stand by my statements ... and I will ALWAYS stand up for the unfortunate ... That does not in any way shape or form mean that I do not believe in personal responsibility ... or condone people who scam the system ... but they are far and few between ...

Kevin ... no one is claiming "Higher Ground" ... that does not mean that the truth needs to be buried ... nor does it mean anyone is going to convert anyone's way of thinking ... but my thinking HAS been converted almost 100% by the power of interacting and becoming informed ...

I was a staunch Republican for many years ... I was a gung ho Corporate Dream chasin' fool ... and then I found peace ....

Just to back up my claims of Corporations pitting people against people in the debate over welfare moms ... here is some proof ...

How Farm Subsidies Became America's Largest Corporate Welfare Program

"With the House and Senate close to agreeing on a new $171 billion farm bill, the time is right to take a fresh look at farm policy to ensure that taxpayers are getting their money's worth. Although farm subsidies are justified as helping struggling family farmers make ends meet, the bulk of subsidy payments goes to the largest high-income farms. In fact, current farm policy allocates two out of every three farm subsidy dollars to the top 10 percent of subsidy recipients while completely shutting 60 percent of farmers out of subsidy programs." ...

"The greatest loophole is the fact that subsidy limits apply to people, not farms; this applies to individuals as well as to corporations and partnerships. Therefore, large farms and agribusinesses can simply sign up each of their employees for a subsidy, and farmers in some cases can sign up their spouses and children to maximize the total subsidy to a given farm. "

Now HERE is something EVERYONE should be pissed about ... This subsidy has been in place since 1996 or so ... and each year it has risen ... the figures above are from 2002 and have since far surpassed those numbers ...

I personally know of a Corporate farm owner ... who hasn't done ANY farming ever ! ... and he has pulled in HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of dollars ...
More than all the Welfare Mom's in most states !

These are CORPORATE FARMS ... taking YOUR tax dollars

Yep ... it's totally wrong.

It shouldn't happen.

I'm pissed off.

Damn, I've a business appointment at 8 a.m. on Easter Sunday.

Geez Louise, I hope that it all gets straightened out. I've not time.

So never mind what's justified complaining, how does one straighten it all out?

Damn government corporation untouchable corporate government.

Who should we attack?

Or are we simply left to flounder because a central power has become the central power ... and rules exist untouchable up the federal ladder versus locally.

Let's say those that had a say were you and your neighbors?

You see, Sam? It's not about government giving. It's about government taking ... and at what level. Further up, they always take more than they give back. They're further removed from their consequences. It's simple human reflex.

If your government existed only in your neighborhood, and had to deal with your reaction locally, you could actually probably take care of those (to an extent) that were in your neighborhood ... MUCH better than the "powers that be" BESTOWING their largess upon you ... um, this year.

Empowered, you might feed, educate, house and care BETTER for those who ... in the absence of the "greater being" of the "larger fed" ... those who you care most about ... who you live with. You'd make due with what you had at your own disposal.

Yet ... when one gives their hard earned efforts to the "king", one becomes more reliant on the "king" and argues that only the "king" can make things right. Only the "king" can solve the problems, for only the "king" has the answers and resource to solve the problems of state.

The fed becomes "king" because they are forfeited removal from "local". When power of control leaves your neighborhood, Sam, you've granted power to the federalist king.

Yet ... if anyone wants corruption ... just centralize power. It happens by circumstance.

One cannot request centralized power, then complain there is corruption by power.

Corporation or government.

Same.

It's in our foundation. Our founders named us the UNITED States, not The Federation of States.

It's states, towns, neighborhoods that matter. Local matter more than the king. It's what we were founded on, but we all want to give up our rights so "big papa" can provide? That's a very risky thing totally dependent on the whims of "big papa" ... who may not like us very much that day.

The federal powers must be reigned in. They're not king, and nobody should grant them exclusive power to provide what they want, day to day, year by year, as the nipple can afford.

They'll be opportunistic politically though ... just like corporations. Same.

In the meanwhile, I've an early appointment so that I can pay my taxes and help everybody, so I'm off to bed.

Obamas fly in chef 860 miles... just to make pizza

By MAIL FOREIGN SERVICE 10th April 2009

When you're the president of the United States, only the best pizza will do - even if that means flying a chef 860 miles.

Chris Sommers, 33, jetted into Washington from St Louis, Missouri, on Thursday with a suitcase of dough, cheese and pans to to prepare food for the Obamas and their staff.

He had apparently been handpicked after the President had tasted his pizzas on the campaign trail last autumn.

Great honour: Chris Sommers will make 20 pizzas for the Obamas and their staff at a White House dinner

'It's surreal, it's a huge honour,' said Mr Sommers, who owns Pi restaurant in St Louis.

'It will be a casual lunch and hopefully we'll have a chance to say hello to the president.'

Mr Somers was accompanied by this business parnter Ryan Mangilardo who will help prepare the dinner for 140 this evening.

It will feature his signature dishes - ten deep dish and ten thin crust creations.

He is also planning a pizza especially for the president - the Hyde Park topped with chicken and hot sauce.
