Unexpected extra gig tonight (Portsmouth UK) [ delayed update]
Well I've been posting quite alot this afternoon, but will have to stop now, as I've been asked to step in at the last moment to open for Della Perrett's Sweetedge at The Nelle Gywnne in Southsea, Portsmouth. (the original support pulled).
Della is a good friend of mine, being the sax Player in my blues band "Burnt Ice". When with her band Sweetedge she sings her own excellent songs and plays acoutsic guitar, along with husband James on Drums, and bass player Greg Gregory.
As this is more of an original material kind of gig I've setmyslef the challenge of doing a st with no covers or standrads whatsover, so I'd better do a bit of polishing on some of my newer songs! I might do a sneek public preview of my entry to the one minute instrumental contest :-).
The gig is at: The Nelle Gwynne, 70 Jessie Road. Southsea. PO4 0EN If anyone is close enough to come. Oh and because this internet thing streches across timezones, tonight is Saturday 2nd Feb :-)
This make it six gigs in six days for me, each one with a different lineup!

Just looking through my blogs and I realised I never wrote a follow up to this one... So here it is.
The venue was just round the corner from my house so, PA being provided, I just walked round with my guitar, a rare luxury. As I arrived the 'football crowd' were still in giving the venue a somewhat nervy and boistrous atmosphere, I thought sh** this lot ain't going to like 'original material'. Then I thought actually most of them wouldn't know the difference between my originals and my blues covers / standards so I decided to stick with the plan.
Fortunately as we set up and sound checked most of the early crowd drifted out and were gradually replaced by the music crowd.
I went on first [obviously as I was the support act :-)] and had the last remains of the football crowd dancing on my first number, "Good Feeling" , well they were drunk but dancers is dancers... the rest of my set was well appreaciated by what was now a listening audience, and I was generally happy with my performance, only one song fell flat for me, my newest song a mixture of reggae and jazz, it needed more practice and playing in.
Della Perrett's Sweetedge then took over for the rest of the evening, delivering a mixed set style wise, varying from reggae to rock, to folk, although all with an acoustic bias, and all Della's songs. She is a skilled songwriter.
It was a great evening and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I would have been at the gig as a member of the audience, so it was a a double bonus to play as well!

P.S. Another great songwriting friend of mine has just joined the site, Sally Strawberry, she's only got music up for the moment, but when she's out up her bio and pics I'll write a proper introduction, in the mean time go and check out her two songs....
