How often do you listen to your own stations?
Since just after I joined at the end of last year, I've been happily listening to new music and adding the best (IMHO) to my station, Andy's Wide Open Blues Jam. I've rarely just listened to it a whole stream though, after my most recent addition I've randomized the play order and just sat back to listen for about the first time since just after I started it.

I'm pleasantly (re)suprised, in fact exceptional pleased with the collection of top quality music that I've 'acquired' over the last couple of months, thanks to all the contributers :-)
My most recent two additions are the songs uploaded by my friend, song writer and singer Sally Strawberry, I just love her voice! (Waiting for her to finish creating her page so I can give a proper intro, but can't resist a littel plug in the meantime :-))

So do you other station owners listen to the end result or do you click and accumulate like I was doing?

I listen to my stations all of the time. I think at first I was doing the same as you but when I had the kiac player installed I was able to listen all of the time without having to keep clicking to the next song which was a pain. I truly enjoy my mix of tunes on the Soul Retrieval stations. It's a real mixed bag of different genres. deb

....Yes, I'd also like to hear more from your friend Sally Strawberry.

I occasionally listen to my own KIAC Station because I obviously enjoy the tracks I have selected but it might only be about once every 4-6 weeks.

I very rarely listen to the other KIAC Stations. Too many of the Stations here sound like random selections without any thought about the overall sequence and flow. I ALWAYS listen to the result and will change song order accordingly and every time I add a new one. I also like to write why I chose a song. For me, any and every playlist needs a flow. Sorry - I'm just being very honest in my opinion!

I create a lot of playlists from my music collection in iTunes on my Mac. That way I get to listen to nothing but my favourites. I sometimes burn a playlist onto CD and give it away to a friend.

I often have a station, that is my fave for a while ----then move to another!!

I only put up music that is my personal preference----so I am always pleased with what I hear----I have 12 stations covering a range of genres---so there are always
plenty of choices

from Bob Dylan Tribute------Laid Back Life------Organic Sounds---Nature Enter Me

Fame & Glory------The End Game-----Top 50 Live----International IAC Artists!!!

always looking for music that fits in ----check out the station and give me a shout!!

34 hours a day! Just kiddin.

Surprising how much good music there is among the dummass music on my station, where the only criteria is to say you belong on the dummass music station.

Silverwood:

Just listened to a load of your stuff on you page. Quite enjoyed it especially Gondwana.

If your looking for something for your "Bob Dylan Tribute" you might try my version of Broke Down Engine, it's a Blind Willie Mctell song, and we all know that nobody sings the blues like blind willie mctell....

More specificly though it was worked from the Bob Dylan version, although changed somewhat in the process, and was original added to my set for performance at a Dylan convention in Portsmouth. For various reasons the convention gig fell through, but the song stuck in my set.

RedRobin:

Yes, I'd like to write a review of every song I'd chosen, but time is so limited, and many songs where chosen through 'gut feeling', thus it's hard to put into words.

I kind of liked the efect of the randomise button just now, but I guess as I chosen all the tunes I was going to like the overall mix, I did fine tune it a little, moving Sally's songs forward in the list as they were the newsest, seperateing my own two...
I find choosing a play order quite difficult, especially when it comes to a CD release.

My stations have been neglected, mainly because there are too songs up to listen to them all.

But I too have discovered the RANDOMIZE button, so this is giving everyone a chance to come up to the top when I lay down on the couch to listen for an hour or two.

I do the couch thing two or three times a week -- either my stations or streaming artists that have caught my attention.

I should be due to check back into your stuff soon, Andy.

I played blues for a long time and became very bored with it because so much of it (including my own) is so mediocre, but it's always great to listen to an EXCEPTIONAL performer such as yourself.

Hi Andy
I listen to my stations all the time, it's always a great variety of songs and I chose each and every one, so I'm never dissapointed with what I hear.

Red Robin, I too like to review each song (although I'm still a bit amateurish at it) and as an artist I get a real buzz when someone comments on one of my songs. I quite often go into the song page and have a look at the reviews each song has gotten. Some of the reviewers have such good writing skills they should be doing it for a living.

Cheers Mark

I don't listen to my stations as often as others here. However, I DO listen to my stations more often than others (sorry).
to RedRobin - I wish I could say my stations have a 'flow'. But I tend to like a wide variety of styles, and it's difficult (with all the great music here) for me to stay within a fixed genre or even a 'feel'. A lot of times I'll pick a 'topic' like numbers, or food or colours, and base a station on tunes that have a relevant title. It's also a hip (?) way of being introduced to a lot of different music and musicians. Incidentally, I got the CD today, and I'm loving it. I envy your flute playing, improv skill. Btw, do you do road racing in your V-dub?

Hi srm Steve,

Regarding a 'flow' I like to find aural connections between songs of different genres so that different genres are played within the Station.

I'm very happy indeed to hear you love the CD - It took far too long to reach you! I don't have much choice about improv because I can't read music or remember songs! It ain't jazz though. I might try some jazz one day.

My V-Dub? - After my daughter and music, she's my next love! I've had specialist training and never road race against other cars but she is very fast (0-60 in under 6 secs) and a great practical allrounder. I might do some track days when the warranty has expired. With Power comes Responsibility.

Oh for the time to sit and listen to all the great music at IAC!

Satch and I don't listen to the couple of stations we have, but that's because they are our own CD preview stations... but we do listen to other peoples stations, mainly when we get one of our songs added to a station, because it's such a great way of discovering excellent new independent music without having to dig deep into the site.

I listen as often as I can & at the moment I'm hooked on our Last Wild Herd station, www.iacmusic.com/lastwildherd

Sometimes the songs just hang so well together & I'm really pleased with how this station is shaping up, going out the door now but I'll check out some of your stations later, bye for now!

Why would one listen to anything else ? ... I listen to my Stations almost all the time and some other's, when I get the chance ... Besides listening to some Artist pages ...
Except when I am on safari or such, all of listening is here at IAC ... I don't listen to the radio AT ALL ....
You show me a tune on the Radio .... I'll show you a better one here at IAC ...
and with the variety and the number of great tunes here, why would anyone listen to anything else ?
