Tom O'Brien and The Pawns: The Long Awaited Return
We have a beautiful new soul album for you.

You might know my band The Pawns. Well, we are lucky to work with some wonderful talents in our circle, and our group of various artists have done our best to frame this artist many of you know here at the pipeline: Tom O'Brien. This is about two and a half years of work, 11 songs, 48 minutes, all polished and mastered and vibrant with actual soulful music start to finish. Please enjoy the whole stream at my page. The contributions are all listed at the page.

This is a deep and complete work, no filler, it's a real album. I'm sure Tom will soon load the whole album up at his page, too, but right here is the debut of something I think many of us have wanted to do for a very long time because we have true faith in Tom, and we are a crew of artists combining souls in order to get into yours.

I tried not to bother this site with our tracks in progress in order to just bring it to you all in finished form, though it was quite hard to hold back. Now it has been beautifully mastered by Eric Sherbon at Maximus and should play rich in all stereos.

We are album artists more than singles people, though my daughter says this one is for sure a single:

http://indiemusicpeople.com/songs.aspx?SongID=99541&ArtistID=8956

I think a case could be made for any of them as the hit (if we are still in the 70's).

You could click onto my page to stream the first 11 songs and hear where we're coming from. When people think of independent artists making their own albums, this is the kind of thing we're all thinking of, Try it out; it will deliver.

Thanks for your time.

Sounds like you came together as a team, on each song there, to help make a fully realized production. The creative production choices are charmin', and create a sumptuous, delightful aural atmosphere lol, very nice. Also, with a spare vibe, also, kinda a paradox, fresh, vital music, anyway.

I also note these are songs of innocence and experience, and neither jaded, or cynical, with expansive event horizons, and a playful quality, that make the self ultimate contemporary vogue seem limited, side by side, imhv.

You've done wonderful work here.

Bob,
Well worth the wait.
Laid-back, meaningful, musically spot on with nice chord progressions, and of course that great Elliot style all in one bag.

I've lived in my house for 30yrs. I have an extension on the back side just for friends and musicians to kick back and listen or jam etc.
Sipping on a Napa cabernet, this was a great listen Dude!
Well Done!

Peace,

D.

Congratulations on creating a fantastic CD. Angelique and Beside You are my favorites but all the songs are top notch in every way. Tom's voice is a revelation. I can see all the work and the love that went into the creation of this group of great songs.

I love the "real" feel of the production where even the imperfections are perfect in their ability to please. I can feel the space between the instruments as this ensemble of tunes actually breathes. It sounds like real people playing real instruments and supporting a singer performing real words with real soul.
It's all so catchy and accessible as well as immensely entertaining and heartfelt on a deeply emotional level.

Tom sings what he means and means what he sings. In a time of so much angst and darkness, this array of glorious songs lights a candle to celebrate and perpetuate the light, the light of hope, of love, of friendship and peace. Kudos to Tom and Bob and to all involved in this masterpiece. I feel so inspired.

Thank you for making me want to work harder.

Duane, it's an honor to get on the stereo in the musician space. I've been constantly working on this house here for 25 years. I'll get you a disc when we start producing them.

Richard, it is an honor to be listened to so well.

I thank you both.

Hey, everybody! I don't know how many of you remember me from IAC days, but I used to hang out here daily. This will be my third year as a teacher (which is what took my time away from IAC), and I'm beginning to get the hang of it! But it takes up so much tttttttiiiiiimmmmmeeeee. I'm gaining better control of my time, but there's no such thing as "free time" lately.

But this album is absolutely an O'Brien/Elliott joint, if there ever was one. We've been working together since we were 18/19 in many different capacities, but it was always as songwriters and performers. This time, I totally handed over the reins to Bob. I put in more than my two cents, of course, but he has become a very fine producer with a deep musical understanding which spans so many genres, styles, and artists. Plus he's a helluva musician and singer. And a great friend.

For all of you who responded on the Pipeline, your words are kindness. I hope you feel what we felt when we were making this music, because it sure was fun to make.
A song isn't really a song until someone else listens to it. It's like the slap on the bottom of a newborn baby. It becomes alive. Thanks for giving our songs life.

Tom

That's some real good work, y'all.

I especially liked "The Rain Came Down", love the guitar work.

And "Beside You" is just a great song, and Tom's vocal on it is just plain stellar.

And the Rain Came Down, love the beats. Both those songs Matt the drummer and I just honing in on our love of soul and hip hop beats- kind of core to our mission these days.

Beside You has a kind of Wu Tang Clan thing between the bass and the kick where the bass sets up an obvious finish funk note but leaves the note silent so the kick drum falls into the hole where you feel the bass note should be.

Lyrics on The Rain Came Down were from a song I wrote 10 years ago that I actually forgot the tune so I've had those around waiting to remember for a decade. We needed lyrics the night we made up that music so I handed him that sheet to try. Went to store to get beer, he had that vocal done when I got back.

Great singer

But, to be clear, Tom wrote every other lyric on the album with me throwing in a phrase here and there or a little pressure for him to dig deeper now and then.

Great lyricist

But probably I should shut up.

I should shut up, but I won't yet because I want to throw light on the others before I shut up. The method of production with every musician who played on this album was to let them hear what we had and have them make their part what they liked best. Whenever they asked what we wanted I told them we want what you feel, thus we could capture their creative flow. And these guys have creative flow. Everyone lives far from here, so I can only get limited appearances from them, but we open the boards up to anything our friends can give us whenever they can.

And especially I want to point out the drummer Matt Perez is essential to the sound of everything we do.

Well, all'n all m-a-r-v-ellous work, to m'humble ears lol. Heard and added quite a few songs, w commentary...*********

Wanna give a shout out to "Change The World", the repeat 2nd phrase, the keys, the bass, the harmonies (la las), and the theme, the outro, so grand.

By coincidence, have a song called "Rue de la World", w a similar chorus "I'd love to change the world..." Both songs added to a new station "change the World," I started in honor of the song, and chorus.

Cheers...

And if you or Tom would consider starting a station or two, would be a most excellent adventure, I hope you'll find. The community wants/ and needs you i daresay.

What's next for your music? Are you sending off to agents/contests/radio i dunno...

Steve- thanks for the listening and the station adds. What we do next? I'm a complete blank beyond creation.

Next is the next Pawns album, and we have twenty recordings started.

Thank you Silverman. Fresh, fresh outa the early 70s.

Thanks Stoneman. It's like a quest to combine Bacharach with Wu Tang Clan.

Hope it hits people enough that they just gotta hear it. If not, we still haven't reached what we are after.

Thanks for giving us a chance, everyone.
