"Changing Direction" Two Silo Complex
A while ago I made this song but things were off so I re-did it. Here is the latest attempt.

I rather like this Ken, you did a pretty decent job on the entire piece. I added it to the eYe, it is warranted and deserves to be featured

"Changing Direction, well I have to say i love the way this song starts off,and its immediately in your face with a big crash and smash on the percussion. Effective and captures you right off, even startles you, one way to get one listening. Very cool progression and nice chordal shapes and sounds, and all you on everything, impressive, good work.

Quite like the vocals and harmonies. The lyrics are well crafted and the story line is very believable, you can tell this is a life experience by the emotion and energy that has been worked in. It be really cool to have a break for 15-20 seconds with some kind of an instrumental part, perhaps some synth with strings to give it some openness and atmosphere something like that would offer a refresh and time to take in all the lyrical content and then have a return to the main theme

As for having a small break in the song, i think it be helpful, for me anyways i think it would add color and character to a very well crafted tune. I enjoyed the listen and sure this will get some adds to stations and many comments.

good work and continued success in your songcrafting and musical ability

CHANGING DIRECTION

also liked the darkness to light idea, how change can bring one out of a funk and being like stuck in the mud......anyways, carry on your good works. digging what you are doing

I agree with everything my learned colleague, Bryon has said. This song has a very mysterious quality to it somewhat like the Moody Blues. I was particularly taken by the vocals as well as the complex lyrics. Creating an atmosphere seems to be your calling. Not to be picky, but the drums could be a little tighter in terms of correct tempo but sonically they had a nice phat sound to them. Perhaps you should try playing with a click track to keep you on the beat or quantizing the drums after you record them.
Just one man's opinion.

Hey Richard thank you for your thoughts.
I thought I might have wandered a little off beat on the drums in one part of the song.

I might have to go back and do the drum again if I add the space that Bryon mentioned which I thought was a good idea.

Thanks for you comments on the drum sound. I have found a good location to place my sm57 beta and do the drum recording with a single overhead mike in one take. I use the standard drum attack compression and drum 7 band EQ that says one mic in protools. I agree that I am happy with the drum sound overall.

I know that I could get much better drum sounds if I could record and eq each drum separately and stereo spit the kit so the toms roll across headphones but those things are outside the ability of my recording setup.

Thank you also for your comments on the song overall. I think after many years I am actually starting to develop a signature sound and writing style which is a major milestone for me.

It was great to see your thoughts and I appreciate your time.

Ken

Nice guitar chord structure and good vox. You Rock! The drums seem a bit sluggish in spots. Not sure why. It could be that they are fine and the guitar is what sounds sluggish. I can't say for sure which one it is. But that is the only thing about this song that I would look further into if I was you.

Much Respect,
Stoneman

Hey Thanks Stoneman you rock.

I believe Richard hit it on the head that the drums are a slight sluggish in a couple spots I thought I also heard this but I wanted to believe they were on time but alas they are not always exactly on time.

I think I'll take all of your suggestions and put in the break that Bryon suggested redo the drum with a louder click to stay on time.

Thanks for you comments on the vocals it is because of some advise you gave me that they are getting better.

I appreciate all the feedback on this one its very helpful.

Ken
