These days you can find John Neilson living it up in the quaint little town of Los Angeles, living it up right in thick of it down on Melrose Blvd. If he is in town it is not uncommon to find him on stage @ The Hotel Cafe, House of Blues Sunset Strip, The Mint, Tangier, Key Club, 7969, King King, The Joint, ect... You might have been lucky enough to catch John Neilson live on stage in Hollywood with Gilby Clark, Traci Guns, and Steven Adler singing Knocking on Heavens Door... If he is out of town, he might be kicking it @ The State Theatre in St Pete with Blackfoot, or playing Credence on stage with Sophie B Hawkins in Jacksonville, or on stage playing Bad Company with LA GUNS in Baltimore, or playing Sweet Home Alabama in ALABAMA, or busting off rounds from a SKS with Spike Loudermilk in High Point North Carolina, or he might be hanging @ The Continental in NYC with Trigger, drinking Jack with Charlie Overbey& The Dimestore Junkies in Bakersfield, or maybe he is playing a New Years eve show in Vegas,committing felonies on a tour bus in Utah with BUCK, cracking crabs with Jordan Shapiro on the Chesapeake, or maybe he is lost in Pittsburgh with a Cowboy, or he might be standing in the rain, locked out of the venue with Tolson in Bryn Mawr PA, or he could quite possibly be in Window Rock AZ on the reservation playing a show for the Zuni's, or he might be in Cinncinati playing a show at a laundry mat, or floating in private pools with Pockets. John has just finished recording his second full length album. This time out he recorded with Multi Platinum Producer Jim Wirt(Incubus, Something Corporate, Live, Hoobastank, ect...). We recorded @ 4th St Recordings in Santa Moncia, CA. We recorded on 2" Analog Tape, so it has an awesome 70's vibe to it. There are 13 tracks, including Mexico, Angels,and Hollywood Hills. It will be available in early 2007.

Reveiw of John's debut cd "If By Chance" by Space Monkey

I got an email referring me to John's website where I purchased his full length cd, If By Chance. I've been out of town for five weeks and have listened to the cd numerous times. What can I say? Smooth, relaxing, emotional, just plain good. As many of you know, I'm a big Ryan Adams fan, and John definately has that Ryan Adams sound.Definately worth a listen. John's music is buried in tales of loss and love and lots of traveling. I give him the Space Monkey seal of approval, my kind of stuff......

Its often said that the test of a good song is to see whether it retains its power minus Pro-tools, fancy production and an orchestra of additional musicians on a good ol’ acoustic guitar. On that basis John Neilson is both a brave man and a superb songwriter, vunerably exposing the 10 tracks here in nothing but an acoustic six-stringer and a well-worn Southern drawl. With his minimal tools Neilson is able to craft some wonderfully simple and wonderfully evocative songs, soaked in the tradition of deep South blues balladering, and a few bourbons. While he hints at the blues, or even a dash of country on ‘Savannah’ Neilson largely avoids the trap of genericism, instead recognizing its the touch-all simplicity of a darn good song that makes for a timeless classic.

"If new song “Vampire” is any indication, these guys can still craft one helluva catchy tune.
That song, played late in the set, would have been a huge hit if it were released back in the 80’s. As a matter of fact, if “Vampire’ had been around for the third album, these guys might have become superstars. It might have been the song to push the group over the top. "
