BIG POWERPOP INDIE ROCK
SOUND
A full three piece sound with plenty of delays, reverb, samples and sparkly overdrives on the guitars, fuzzy, synthy distortions on the bass, big drums with feel and melodic vocals with a slight grumble. Comparisons to early Radiohead, Tool, early Muse & Pink Floyd are often made at shows with the common addition that they have something very original that you simply ‘can’t put your finger on.’
INFLUENCES
The band have a wide range of musical influences from late 60’s pop, mid 70’s Rock, 90’s Alternative to modern indie artists. Eg Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Early Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, The Deftones, The Mars Volta, Elbow, Minus The Bear & Oceansize.
THE DAMN THE MAPS STORY
Originally from Hamilton, New Zealand, Singer, songwriter & bassist Martin Green moved to Melbourne after a small string of line-ups, set up a home there and began auditioning many musicians and working with different musicians over many months until finally via a popular web forum, Melband, he met Nick Riley (Guitar) and Mark Coats (Drums). They quickly hit it off and within a few months began playing shows under the name Nervous Wreck.
Within a year they had independently released an EP ‘All Aboard’ which immediately received Triple J airplay. They landed supports for Evermore’s regional tour in 2006 and their second EP ‘Log Off’ received airplay as well across Triple J, Triple R, PBS and several New Zealand Stations.
They then signed with independent label, Vent in 2007. With the upcoming release of their debut album, Nervous Wreck changed their name to Damn The Maps, as it seemed applicable with the journey they had taken so far very much on their own, their strong belief in their ability and the independent road they decided to follow. They released their debut album Input Output via Vent in 2008. They did extensive interviews and toured Perth, Sydney, Regional Victoria, Tasmania with Epicure, New Zealand and Adelaide. Damn The Maps released 5 videos for Input Output and one film documenting their tour to Adelaide for Scorcherfest.
With drummer Mark moving to London, Damn the Maps recruited Huw Elias and recorded their second album Something is Askew in December 2013 on the vintage Neve console at Hothouse Studio in St Kilda. Something is Askew was released in August 2014. They are currently working on their third videos for Something is Askew, releasing B sides for their 'At Home' collection and beginning rehearsals for album number three.

Wrong
A rock song that asks the question: What if the fundamental concepts of living that we have been taught in school and by the media are in fact dead wrong?
