Music's best kept secret is the perfect way to describe him. Scotch was born and raised in Philadelphia Pa, you can say Scotch had the best of both worlds. Book smarts as well as street smarts. He relies on both experiences to make his music as authentic and original as can be. Through his extensive work with other local artists from Philly he is quickly becoming his alter-ego "The Ventrilikwist".. He goes by this name because of work he does behind the scenes in the music. You will hear his voice through another artist. People that have worked with him often label him a genious, because of his ability to quickly come up with concepts and hooks after about ten minutes of listening to an instrumental. "Music is like a language ya dig. As an artist I just try to listen to it and translate it. You just have to listen to what each track is saying." Scotch found his itch for music , back when he was in high school. After the talent shows and school battles he linked up with friends from his neighborhood and began making music with "Hard Money" When Hard Money fell apart Scotch then linked up with childhood friends of his older brother. Hassan "Hussein" Thomas and Steven "Shame" Miller. They were known as D.L.K an acronym for Down Low Killaz.. After recording several freestyles DLK was discovered by a production team from Cali, that were trying to put a project together featuring upcoming artists from the Tri-state area. When the project didn't go as plan, DLK walked away from the situation. However not empty handed. They used the instrumentals that were given to them by the production team, and decided to record and push their own product. "Once upon A Time In Philadelphia" was released in August of 2006. The group was working on the second LP despite the lost of Hassan Hussein when he was sentenced to fourteen years in a federal facility. In July of 2007 the group suffered another loss when Shame was gunned down by Philadelphia Police Officers. Over 85 shots were fired and he was struck over 20 times. "Man I felt like I couldn't do it no more. How could I write or record something crazy and not be able to call my man up and be like yo you gotta hear this new joint. I was sick for awhile yo I ain't wanna have nothin to do with music." After receiving several messages from friends and family inspiring him to continue with the music, Scotch decided to work on his solo album. "Imma call it "The Renaissance" during the dark ages the world was at lost until the renaissance period came. People came up with new ways to think, paint, write and invent. I feel like this is the state of hip hop right now, the dark ages. I feel like my album is going to be the one to bring the light. The rebirth or revival to hip hop." Over eighty percent of the album was recorded by Scotch in the basement of his home. "I call it the Dummy Workshop. That's where the Ventrilikwist can go work on something magical ya dig. You'd be amaze with what I can do to an original track after a cup of that tug a lug jug. That's my nickname for Taylor's Port." "Look all I'm saying is just get ready for me. I got somethin for everybody. The goons, the working man, the lovers, the freaks, the women and men. I'm leavin no area uncovered." "The Renaissance" is expected to be released in September 09

One Day At A Time
this song was inspired by engagement last year. it is a phenomenal song about my relationship from the beginning to the here and now. the final stage in a beautiful relationship. although this song is very personal. i wrote it for the ear of a listener who was lucky enough to find someone they know they want to spend the rest of their life with.
