CEILÍ MOSS is an acoustic folk-rock band from Belgium. We have often been described by the press or by fans as acoustic Pogues. “Crazier than Perry Rose, not as orthodox as Shantalla, more eccentric than MacRahl”, a concert review once said. Another frequently heard comparison is Ambrozijn. We like to define ourselves as “acoustic folk-rock with a Celtic-Pan-European edge, that’s not afraid of coloring a bit outside of the lines”.

You can say that the Celtic, and more precisely Irish, influence is preeminent, nevertheless, we are frequently unfaithful to it, as we love to go for a bit of Flemish, Scandinavian, Latin American, Mitteleuropa, Klezmer, blues or medieval repertoire, or for a singer-songwriter approach or even sometimes a bit of Ska, always adding a personal touch. We play an approximately even mix of our own tunes, sung in English, French or Dutch, and of traditionals, sometimes played the orthodox way, sometimes completely rearranged.

What else ? We’re not the next “greater than the Beatles” big thing, but our simple (though not simplistic!), colorful and tasty music has generally received a warm welcome everywhere we’ve played. We are more interested by the warmth, energy and sincerity of music than by a perfect and academic execution, in conformity with the standards of the genre.
