“I believe the cerebral of Mr. Dylan just met the melody of The Eagles…Elvis left the building and someone just remodeled it. To steal a slogan – I’d like to buy the world a Jay Johnson Album.” - - Seth Harrison, Author/Songwriter

PLEASE NOTE: Jay's music has found homes in various genres, from southern rock to blues to americana/country to funk and singer songwriter...so please peruse through the entire catalog - thanks so much!

Jay Johnson is a multi-genre (he hates that term, by the way,) multi-award winning (hates that one, too) performer singer/songwriter. Among his most recent accolades, Jay was nominated for Singer/Songwriter of the Year at the 2007 Texas Music Awards. He is currently doing an internet-only re-release of his 2004 album, RoyalBlueMoon, as well as his new political funk-ballad, The TruthWagon, and his songs are being added to playlists and charts globally.

Jay was voted Male Vocalist of the Year at the 2005 Texas Music Awards in which he and his band at the time received the most nominations (6) in the history of the show, including Song, Album, Musician and Entertainer of the Year. He was also selected as a Regional Finalist in the 2004 Sony/USA Network Nashville Star TV Show and currently has several of his songs being considered for placement in upcoming film and television shows. This 18-yr veteran performer has self-released 3 albums in the last 7 years (all received statewide, regional and international airplay)while sharing the stage with such talent as Jackson Browne, Pat Green, Willie Nelson, Charlie Robison, Jack Ingram, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Steven Fromholtz, Gary P. Nunn and countless others. Several of Jay's songs have been re-released by fellow songwriters as well. Johnson's style of writing is as diverse and all encompassing as the writer himself and his writing savvy has been compared to James Taylor, The Black Crowes, Neil Young, Jackson Browne & Townes Van Zandt.

Jay Johnson is proud to play Seagull® Guitars and Elixir® Strings Exclusively, and wishes to thank the following very groovy people who have chosen to help him along this kaleidoscopic journey:

The TruthWagon (studio version)
This is the studio version of the LIVE version that was released in Feb '08. We'd love to know which one you dig the most...thanks for listening!

Country

The TruthWagon LIVE
This song was recorded LIVE among friends somewhere in Texas...a political funk ballad with a real message and a raw groove that need to get out...Let The TruthWagon Roll! (Please note: the studio version of this song will come out in March, but we thought this live one was SO raw and good and lends itself really well to the lyrics, so we're releasing both...if you know anyone in politics, send it to them...with a copy of the lyrics, and tell 'em to take notes...)

Live Performances

Out Of The Fire
Southern Rock/Funk for your Funky Self

Rock
h h

Love In The Wasteland
We've been told over the years that this song contains some of the best pick-up lines ever...decide for yourself, and let us know if they work! Having sold the most downloads of all the songs on the album RoyalBlueMoon to date, we guess it's a pretty well-liked tune...hope you enjoy it...

Folk/Acoustic Rock/Americana
h h

Blues Number Five
Alliteration: the commencement of two or more words of a word group with the same letter, as in "apt alliteration's artful aid." Add to that a big slap of southern rock-funk for your bad self...

Blues
h h

The Pitcher Song
Man walks into a bar and sees his soon-to-be ex wife hittin' on a younger man...and it pissed him off...This is Jay's contribution to the Texas Bar Sing-a-long Songs...people seem to think it's pretty funny. From Jay's 2nd album, Deep In The Heart of Texas, The Pitcher Song has been receiving global airplay on country and americana stations for several years.

Country

Josephine
Nominated for Song of the Year at the 2005 Texas Music Awards, this is one of the favorites off the album RoyalBlueMoon and is currently receiving airplay globally. Jay was sick with the flu one weekend and The Josephine Baker Story was on cable...he watched it over and over all weekend and fell madly in love!

Folk/Acoustic Rock/Americana

Inside Out
"Rip-your-guts-out Singer/Songwriter 70s Rock Ballad"...quoted from a fan at a show

Southern Rock

Long Road To Heaven
I was sitting at a light in downtown Dallas one day and looked into a homeless man's eyes and this is what I saw...

Jay,

I was just checking plays on my Legendary Music station - for some reason your Inside Out is not playing there and not on your page either. Didn't know whether you knew or not. Let me know when you find out what happened to Inside Out. In the meantime I just moved it temporarily down the list until you get it playing again so that it doesn't stop the player when it gets to your song - songs that don't play do that.

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Neil
