IAC band names
Roaming through IAC, I sometimes come across band names that make me stop and wonder how they were arrived at, and/or elicit a bow of admiration for their wittiness. My current favourites are 'Panda Riot' and 'Cognitive Dissidents' - are there any others I've missed? (And should there be a 'daft-named bands' station? Let's see the response.)

those are good!

I had a band in the early 90s called THE HIP GNOSTICS.

I think the name has since been stolen from me..

The Bloody Sharts!

My first band was in the 70's and we were punks. We knew 4 chords. We were The Abortions. I don't think we understood quite how demeaning that name could be.

I've seen a few VERY cool band name generators on the net - they generally come up with Prog Rock sounding band names but one we very nearly went with was Fish Monkey Bone. And I STILL love that.

Yeah that's like yeah okay like asking if evolution is like evolution.

We are called crashtv because Chris (guitar suggested it in about 1709 and we went yeah, we don't hate it!)

Hardest bit of being in a band is the goddamn name. Everything anyone says has some kind of reason not to use those words and blah blah, that's why we ended up with crashtv - no one hated it. No one LIKED it but no one hated it.
I think it's a stupid name and now where stuck with it, but at least we didn't call oursleves daft names like Sting or The Edge.
For instance:
Hey Trevor... can I get you a drink? Lager okay And what about you, The Edge, what do you fancy?

I like Fish Monkey Bone.

Crashtv are moving into a new thing now with a LADY doin' the singin's a la Curve so maybe we'll ditch crashtv and become Fish Monkey Bone.

Hey Brian!! Whazzup!

Let's see............... band names over the years;
Exeter, Loop 610, Final Dayz, DiVersion, Sonic Edge, to name a few.

If I play solo, my aka is still "OflockIT". I changed it back to real name here on IAC.
I'll probably phase it out later.

Currently I'm in two cover bands: The Halley Crast Band, and The Rocktones.
The biggest problem with a personal named band is spending a lot of time and money on a band name that could lose thier main attraction. Halley asked us to change the name but gave no paticular reason..... (hint?). I've been with this band for about 10 yrs. the longest ever. We had broken up last year and I left for about 4 months to pursue my writing. They couldn't find a decent bass player that could sing, so they asked me to come back. I said sure but under one condition: You have to play two of my original tunes per gig. Now that I think about it, that's pretty damn sad. Lately I don't care if we play my tunes or not.

The Rocktones is about 1yr now. Started out as a fill-in for a couple of gigs because they fired their bass player with the premiss they would be looking for a replacement. Well guess what! They stopped looking and adopted me. It's an odd situation because I'm not usually in the Email loop, but then they want me to quit with the other group and commit to just them. One of them jokingly said "we'll play some of your tunes. I think we can rock a couple up."
I thought to myself "That's even sadder still."

Time to dig out the Electric and my GT-3 I guess.

Bands get to be like family because of the amount of time spent rehearsing and playing. I've been around for a few years, and try not to get in that deep, so I'm usually the "grumpy old dude".

(but I really love 'em all)

D.
