What bonds us all together?
I've always thought that the success of indiekind depended on a chemistry brewing, and that it could brew at a place as innocuous as this site.

It sometimes feels like there is a suitable nucleus here. What do you think?

Any time people can come together on the internet and discuss things in a civil way or just have fun ~ that's a victory for civilization. This site is an example of what is possible when real humans display their humanity. No site is perfect but this one is clearly above the rest. It will get even better with time and effort.

Well i agree with your thinking here Scott, Things have always percolated here.sure the site has had its long droughts of inactivity due to a number of reasons that are not really worth hashing out here anymore.

Dealing with the now is the most important thing and that will help rebuild its credibility and add to its legacy.as for iacmusic and now indiemusipeople , The Site, well It has been a leader in so many ways, and there is nothing that can touch it for the stations, the the ability to do reviews of songs, the interaction of so much on the pipeline and the amazing songs that come from collaborations of people who meet up here. As well as peoples own creations.

As for I M P well, It could be a magnet, attracting the little struggling independent artist or those who are well established the proven. I have been privileged to do so much in the way of collabs from people I met here and so in that respect it is indeed a very creative place to be.

I find the aspect of the hospitality a huge reason to have stayed here. I hope we can continue to nurture that component of respect, consideration and being open to a variety of ideas here and acknowledge each others abilities and strengths So yes, it does feel like what you said, about there being a nucleus and synergy here that could raise the place up a few more notches and perhaps reach its full potential sometime in the near future and continue to attract people artists listeners and supporters to help this place continue on in its path to greatness

I agree, it's a real 'love-in' here :)

Even when I had to leave for a few years I was on a constant search to find somewhere that had the same magic and nothing came close.

I haven't quite fallen back in love with this place yet but I'm trying. The first time around I was totally into Station building and reviews, I collaborated with many people at IAC and met my current best friend so I have a lot to be grateful to IMP for.

My biggest worry and a reason I can't plan ahead too far is that IMP won't be able to support itself, or that it will fall behind as new technology passes us by, but I'm assured that isn't going to happen for a while yet, so, fingers crossed let's make the most of it here and now :)

True that Verity. the nickels dimes and any extra change to spare will help keep this place alive and thriving, I have done some support for other programs besides here. a few indie djs with great programming who are struggling , those who have supported the artists I pitch. but have to watch my own cash flow, only so much to spare. I hope some can give what they can. And I am sure that they will.

Bryon you are unusual in that you are an artist but you also have a good business head, unfortunately those two talents don't always go together and artists and performers generally are often shy and retiring in real life even though they are totally extrovert in their art - like me I guess :)

I've been thinking about it.

It's you, Scott. We all have a lot in common and that allows us to identify with each other as a little indie commune of sorts, but, you encouraged me to join FB, and kept me up to speed on iac and that evolution to imp. But, I zeroed in on you in 2002 I just thought were unique and cool, and wanted to be your friend. I still do, and as a musician rocker indie person, it's easy to be simpatico with your loyal following.

I would be doing music no matter what, but, my tunes would be uploaded and forgotten about on some other site, but instead, it's here with you folks, and it's cozy, and an atmosphere fitting of my comfort zone, as well as inspiring. I want to participate and work on music after visiting this place.

I do think that the size of this place has something to do with the bonding. I have tried to be part of much bigger music sites and felt like an outsider, I have been involved with very small sites and felt pressure, so to come and go when the mood takes you and still feel welcome is lovely.

While I was in colorado my brother and i saw a big mother of a ship in the dead of night, no moon and dark as hell. then spitting out of this thing were coming 2 small things small vessels. freaked us out, camping up outside of Paonia near some lake up a mountain, or butte, so I believe. really i do, they are among us.

I lived in Paonia over the summer of 2002 working on a ranch. I didn't see any crazy stuff there other than mad shooting stars, which was our TV.
But while driving to Montana, I saw something north of Casper Wyoming in 1991 - I can't explain.

I refuse to admit or deny the existence. I think it's arrogant to deny, and I love a great ufo story. I hope they exist and are among us.

then again, with all the American Area 51 and the colorado space endeavors and some of the biggest companies in the biz there (is it NASA) and various developments going on and testing, maybe we just saw some Stealth fighter bomber test run years back but you know when it is out in nowhere your imagination runs wild too. That isnt the first time, there were a few others, but guess being someone who believes in stuff like that, you probably convince yourself without really knowing it

I have a friend who believes he's been followed around by aliens since his youth. The guy isn't usually loopy but he has taken acid a few times. That said, one time we were out in an open space looking out over a mountain and he verbally beckoned the aliens, about 5 minutes later a group of us saw a floating hovering light go across the sky in utter silence and there's no way that was a plane or helicopter.

Since the UFO post repeated
All the threads have been deleted
Something funny's going on
Where have all the posters gone?
Have Pipeliners been abducted
As the aliens instructed?
Don't you think it's kind of weird
How everyone has disappeared?

The Imposter appears again to shine
to leave its neat queries behind
As for all the people disappear
well its not surprising but indeed queer
But This situation happens often
when topics and peoples brains start to soften
or perhaps because its summer
I have to admit thats kinda a bummer
but over the years, it always been
those that have a polish and sheen
its always been so very few
who have stayed loyal and true

Back in 1982 I saw some aliens at a Parliament Funkadelic concert. At first I thought they were with the band but then they started floating over the crowd and dropping down big fat blunts. They had this weird glow and this thing they referred to as a bop gun. Everytime they fired it Bootsy Collins would do an impromptu bass solo. One of them dropped down to the floor and started to gyrate to the music while George Clinton sang "One Nation Under A Groove". It was obviously female as it had what appeared to be a ghetto padunkadunk ass. She turned and looked at me and then held up one finger to indicate "One Love". I smiled and threw her a small shot bottle of Tequila. She gulped it and then rose back up into the elements while the band and the crowd held up the P Funk sign. I mumbled under my breath "What the funk" as shrooms started falling from the sky. I grabbed one and ate it. It was a chocolate flavored yummy shroom that had an other worldly glow to it. Then the stage lit up and began to raise the whole band played as it played. I suddenly realized that my feet were no longer touching the floor. Every time the drummer hit the kick drum I felt my heart beat with it. My heart was in time with the beat as I flew up into the sky with all the rest of the people and aliens. We laughed with glee and turned summersaults while the band went into a song called "Cosmic Slop". The alien girl came to me and she whispered in my ear "I see earth people". I laughed because her voice sounded like Daffy Duck. We soared through the sky and big bongs kept floating to me so I could take another hit. I realized that I was no longer near earth when I saw a sign that said welcome to Funkdom. The alien girl took my hand and we flew off into the funkdom atmosphere while the music began to fade in the distance. I laughed with glee as we went faster and faster until we landed on a cloud that had a bed of what looked like diamonds. There we made passionate alien love. It was wild and unlike anything I had ever done before. The sensation of our love making was far beyond anything earthly. We made love until we fell asleep on the cloud. When I woke up I was in my rack on the ship I was stationed on. I got up and walked around hoping to find the padunkadunk girl. But she was gone and I never saw her again. Maybe she wasn't real. Maybe it was the shrooms and the purple microdot I had taken that caused me to have this experience. Or, maybe it all happened for real. All I know is that we should not be concerned about the aliens. They only come here to party. One Love!

that is some Yarn there Stoneman, makes mine look lame maybe you were dropping psychedelic grooviness or inhaling some fine smoke that helped your achieve the heights of funkidelic connection to the whole scene. you turn out the best stories of anyone here, no one touches your ability to communicate and keep us spellbound, not one comes close to your experiences you share dude

No I never heard of him but I did google him and his story is quite compelling. Mine was just some shit I wrote to entertain folks with. Although I did see some crazy unexplainable stuff out to sea when I was in the Navy, I never really could confirm that it was aliens. I just knew that there are some really strange things going on in the skies. Things that no one in the military could explain when I asked about them.

Bryon, thanks man. I am a amateur writer and I have written a couple of books that no one will probably ever read because I never tried to get them published. I write because I love to expand my brain and explore it through the written word. I also wrote a couple of musical stage plays. One was actually performed by a prison acting troupe. It was fun to see my work come to life and they were excellent musicians. You would be surprised at the talent that is locked up in prison. When I worked I had 3 jobs. One of them was in the capacity of a prison chaplain as I have a non denominational seminary degree. I traveled all over California while heading the Street Gang Intervention Program. As a former street gang ace (leader) I wrote about the things I went through and I would give the inmates hand outs for them to read. It was very effective in getting them to see that if I could changed my life, they could change their own. I think those handouts were the most important things I ever wrote. Some of the lifers were present at some of the events I wrote about which earned me great respect through the prisons. I retired from prison ministry in 1994 but I have heard that my writings are still heavily circulated through out the California corrections facilities. I visited 32 adult and youth institutions every year for 20 years. But it is cool to know that people actually read my stuff here at IMP. I love this place.

Have to say that Stoneman is so prolific - he writes stories, he writes music. He just writes so much. The tunes are wonderful and to have earned a living from them .... he might be the only person I know that actually has done that haha - you can see the circles I travel in. But the amazing part is the stories are mostly stuff that has actually happened to him. I can't say even a fraction of that amount of things have happened to me - and some of it I was definitely spared and I'm grateful. So, not to turn this into a tribute and embarrass Stoneman, but - well I guess that's what I've done. oh well...
