You used to be the busiest station manager here. What, are your indie listening days done?

I just have not had the listening time I would like to have this year. Especially the last few months. Been a bit crazy.

Oh Darn...
okay, I have to mention this too...
That Lars Mars one....
now that's a great song.
Only heard it 'cause Glenn wrote to me and struck up a conversation,
actually apologizing to me for not having listened to all of our songs,
I told him 'don't be ridiculous'... (we have a good few songs, don't we)...
but then he mentioned his song "Everything She Does",
and I heard it, and realized, this was a song like I've been trying
to write, the whole time. So we covered it, best we could.
But it deserves mentioning,
that "Everything She Does" by Lars Mars,
is one of the best songs, in the history of ever.
Thank you.

In spite of some of (or because of?) the grousing around here, and some things that bug me about this site, I find myself still coming back to IMP as I make my rounds of the various music sites I subscribe to.
I like that some of my songs seem to be actually played by complete strangers. Good for the ego. I like finding songs by unknowns that are surprisingly good, in some cases outstanding from people - like me - who don’t stand a chance of being heard on a large scale. And I like the overall layout of the site. The various genres, the stations, and comment sections, the community forum (although why it’s hidden away on a drop down menu for those in the know, is beyond me). And I like the Golden Kayak contest.
The nomination process is something else. It’s so complicated and daunting when you get down to it. Sifting through songs, checking posting dates - man, it’s like it has to be your full time job.
So I didn’t do that, but I did want to do my bit by finding some songs I genuinely appreciated and giving them a boost by nominating them. In two previous contests I’ve managed to get picked, and the feeling was really a kick, so I wanted to share the love, so to speak.
Here’s what I did, and I’m itemizing it, to inspire some of you fellow procrastinators to do the same:
1) I cut and pasted the categories (see previous IMP post on this to get the list) in an email.
2) I went to the “charts” page and clicked on songs in the genres that appealed to me (r&b, world, indie rock, americana, etc.), admittedly sticking to the top 20 in most cases, thereby missing some unrecognized gems. Sorry, life is short and this is not my life’s work.
3) I didn’t check when they were posted. Sorry, but again, just too much busy work. A good song a good song to me. So if some of my entries are disqualified because the song was posted outside the contest parameters, well tough luck.
4) I just voted in the categories I was interested in.
5) And I didn’t do an exhaustive search for the “best” song, I just stopped when I found a song that stood out from the ones I had selected to listen to.
So come on, it’s actually fun once you get in to it.

That's the spirit John. Yes folks, we don't expect you to have an encyclopedic knowledge of all songs in all genres. Just take a half hour someday and find a few you think are worthy and send em in.
