IMP story blog contest, all please read..

ok I came up with an idea. I'd like people to share more about their lives here. I want to open up the parameters of this great blog arena we've set up for the community. Thus I am starting this contest. I haven't figured out how I'm going to judge it yet (either by vote or maybe i will judge it) but it will be judged and the winner will get any IMP link they want posted on the front page. Your artist page, somebody else's artist page, a station page, a blog page. Here's what you do.

Start a blog with some story about some event or situation that happened in your life. It can be about how you met your spouse, it can be about a day you went fishing. It can be about a day when you did nothing at all. It must be a true story and what I'd like you to do is imagine we were all sitting around a campfire with a bunch of people we hardly know. The group all starts telling stories about their lives, happy stories, horror stories, about when you were at the wrong place at the wrong time or at the right place at the right time. Start a new thread for the story and tell that story here. Something happened that you can't explain or the story about how you once saved the day.

It doesn't have to involve music at all but it can't be about politics.

You can enter several times, as long as ya got good stories. :)

Bryon, I notice whenever I try to start something like this, you're always the first one to post and it's never to just go along with the premise, why do you think that is? :D

Bryon is probably the first to comment, because his garden is probably already watered by the time you post; LOL!

Yeah, I am not conceding anything to a Stoneman as I am as verbose and competitive as anyone. Heck, I could probably just copy/paste my Alexandra story here and win hands down! (But that might be a bit unfair to the others, eh?)

I may or may not enter this contest as I have SO MUCH on my plate as do most of us. Besides just starting my IMP roll-out, I have at least 2 dozen "real time" (as Evie would say) pressing item's on my to-do list. Will she enter this? I would LOVE to hear her story!

Is there a time-limit frame to enter? Can we just comment on this thread or do we need to post a brand new post as you mentioned? If I enter, my story will definitely be about how my wife and I met and fell in love. Heck, it might even inspire Mr. Scotti and Mr. Nyro and others to pen new love songs! Later!

I don't know, Bryon, sometimes you can be such a momentum crusher. :D

Michael, yeah you have to start a thread, not sure how long the thing will last, at least a couple weeks.

I think I am just a born trouble maker, yet, I do have some fine qualities, right now I cant think of any. its still too early. wait, no its not. perhaps you have to take me with a grain of salt , a lump a bag, a truck load. poking fun man. yes, I can be evil, stir the pot, but maybe you took it too personal, its a great idea. I dont think my life story or events would be interesting, to me, perhaps to others maybe, let me think on this

Hey there, Mr. Tosoff! Except for the fact (being politically incorrect here aka Archie Bunker, and this is not about politics Scott) that you are from the same country of origin as Christomir 'Itso' (who can really stir the pot), I truly cannot picture you as a bad boy. Maybe it is because you have only ever said nice things to and about me. (winky emoji) Anyway, I would love to hear the story someday as to how in the world you made it to Mount Pipemore!!! Maybe that could be the topic of your story, eh?

BTW, I need to copy/paste to MS Word your reply (or save the post) back to me about all your pianos. I want to look at all of them online (another of my hundreds of projects). I truly appreciate your time and trouble of doing that! I will keep you posted about my digital piano search as well. I think I will reward myself with buying one after losing 30 pounds. That will give me more motivation. but may take a while, so please do not hold your breath on that one!

Finally, did they get all the fires put out, by now, I hope?

Thanks Scott! Due to time constraints, I may just post Alexandra's story here and disqualify myself from the prize I am not ready for anyway. I could ask all the other guys if they also have such a mad, irrational crush in their lives. I think I am aware of one other. (winky emoji)

That could get the attention of DeMonicka, Francesca, Veronica, and Betty, etc. Hopefully I could also get the elusive Evie to show up!

I want them all to learn that not ALL us older guys are stalkers or creepers. Some of us are 100% faithful to our wives and are just lovely, older gents who wish to surround ourselves with lovely and not toxic people. That includes other lovely gents as well as the gals, both young and getting older like us!

Whoa, so sorry about the fires Bryon; I had no idea they were still raging like that. I get most of my news on the web and have not seen anything lately about it.

As far as your story goes; haha, you can pick whatever story, if any, you want and in your own timeframe! Later, friend!

Well, I appreciate the respect you give me Bryon. I do love to write shit and I am known to be a tad long winded. But I would like to share another true story. One that blesses my soul daily. I was an abandoned and abused child. My father took me and my brother to Los Angeles when I was 4 years old. He left us with a relative who was mentally insane. Said he would be back in two weeks but never returned. Anyway, our lives were very rough and we withstood constant beatings, torture and violent acts of severe pain daily. Then, around about 11 years later we heard from my fathers current wife who told us that he was gravely ill but had confessed to her that he had two kids in California. They were in Portland Oregon. The day that she called my father was scheduled to have brain surgery to remove a tumor. They opened him up, found 5 more tumors, closed him back up and waited for him to die. My brother and I traveled to Portland for his funeral. It was so hard for me to mourn for him because he had abandoned me and left me with the crazy person from hell. I could only feel anger. Anger towards him and this great new life he had created without us. The house was beautiful! Also, there 6 kids that were not even my fathers kids that he had been taking care of. Those kids loved him so much. I could tell by the way they were crying and mourning his loss. There was one room in the house that I was particularly fond of. it was the trophy room. There were trophies in there that were bigger than me. They all had my fathers name on them. He had become a professional bowler and had won a lot of tournaments. I was so impressed with this stuff because he was my father and that meant I was the son of a champion. Up until that point, I had always been told that I was a worthless trash can child that nobody wanted. Even my mother had been missing since I was 2 years old. So, before I had to go back to California I asked my new step mom if I could have one of my dads trophies. Her answer was no. I was so hurt by that as I didn't have anything that was my dads and I really wanted one of those trophies. But she refused and we left Portland empty handed, fatherless and prepared to face the violent craziness that had become our lives.

Several years went by and I grew up, became a man and started my own life and family. But my fathers trophies were always in the back of my head. It was shear torture to think about it. One day I was sitting at home and my telephone rang, it was a girl who asked me my name and then said she was my sister who lived in Portland. Apparently my father had fathered another child in Portland with a different woman than his wife. I flew up to Portland so I could meet my sister and there was no doubt about it because we looked like twins. We have been extremely close ever since then. But anyway, while I was there, my fathers step children heard I was in town and came to see me. It was weird and awkward but I tried to be pleasant and kind.

The day I departed for home I got on the plane and did my normal pre-take off prayer. Then all of a sudden I heard the captain make an announcement. He said that we were being delayed because there was someone who had an urgent matter to discuss with a passenger. Then I looked down the aisle and saw this Black lady running towards me. She thrust a bag in my lap. She cried and apologized profusely about not giving them to me years ago. She hugged me and then ran back off the plane. I looked into the bag and there were two trophies with my dads name on them. I cried the whole trip back to the Bay Area. It just goes to show that you may not get the desires of your heart right away when you want them, but if you just hold onto your faith, the deep desires of your heart will be fulfilled. I believe that for 25 years that woman's conscience bothered her. So much so that she could not miss an opportunity to correct the wrong she had done. Isn't that how we all should be? When we do something hurtful to someone and realize it later, shouldn't we try to correct that in some way? I get up every day, go into my studio and before I start work I look at my fathers trophy and dream that I too can some day be a champion of something. It inspires me in a way that nothing else can inspire me.

Well, that's my story. No, it's not a prize winner but I didn't tell it for that. I told it because I am hopeful that it will inspire someone else to just hold on and be patient. Your trophy is coming for you some day. Trust me, I have plenty of them to prove it. This life called being a musician is often bleak and unrewarded. We have to have thick skin and patience. We have to work hard and rehearse daily year after year. While hoping that some day we will get a break. If that is you, just keep hoping and believing in yourself. Keep writing, producing and performing. Your day of redemption and victorious laughter will come soon enough. Just be thankful that you live and have the opportunity to pursue your dreams. I know, I'm sounding kind of preachy right now. Can't help it y'all. That truly is what I do when I am not doing music. I am usually in some juvenile hall, youth authority camp or state prison bringing the good news about God to the inmates. Just trying to show them that their lives can be changed and their paths corrected. But no, I am not the friendly neighborhood church minster. I don't do church ministry at all. Been working as a prison chaplain for 40 plus years. Actually, I am retired from the chaplaincy but do volunteer work here and there now. So, I can't help being the preachy type.

Much Respect,
Stoneman

thats was a great read Stoneman. thanks. as for me, I just say this, my stories and feelings are in my songs. Thats how I communicate and this is a music site, not a storytelling site. I will do something, share my experiences and stuff, but not here, I will have some essence of what who I am at a blog elsewhere, like at a blog perhaps of my own, as for people like Stoneman, You Scott or others, let me say this some are better at rolling out the stories, maybe have had more experiences they like to share and just love to lay down what they have done accomplished or the challenges they tackled and maybe just feel comfortable in baring their soul, not everyone is going to be like that, we are all different and feel comfortable in sharing their feelings with someone they are close to and or trust, that they can confide in , in private, not all of us are interested in sharing our life story, of events and things to people in a public way.

cheers

Thank you for sharing that incredible story, Stoneman. It was truly moving and inspirational. Your ability to be so honest about your innermost feelings is a testament to how you have transcended the demons in your life. You are the hero in your own life. We all have challenges of various kinds. When you tell a story like that you make me feel stronger and more optimistic about conquering my own demons. I'm proud to to say that we both share the endeavor of making music.
