Some "music lovers' are just too lazy to appreciate indie.
They far prefer any song they've heard before, familiarity comes way before trying any new songs/ new music.

True. its the smart phone and Spotify that has ruined everything. but it started way before that the devolving of the music thing, when music became easy to get online and music pirates just screwed up the whole world, free and easy, like this society, slack ass people who just drift by in their lives and have no direction or purpose, dont need to put in work or effort, like collecting welfare, its there for the taking, easy come easy go. . it is true a lot of music is a push button thing, that is the sad part. no need to work ones chops ,build some skills. learn how things work. Listening to music is a learning experience for me, I have learned a ton by listening to all kinds of music, that is the way to learn how to write music, finding out what works
But we live in a Fucked up world. Music is going that way too. nothing much out there that piques ones attention or captures ones ear.
But there is hope, its finding the right ingredients and synergy and getting the right combination of magic and skill. if one can find the people that have passion drive and desire to make good music and improve oneself along with their music friends, well, there is hope after all
pick up an old record, listen to it, then listen to what is out there right now, I prefer the old stuff frankly

Yup - the cover bands make the money in pubs and clubs as people love to hear music they know and love - who doesn't? We all love the tracks that have grown on us.
Getting our indie stuff to a point where it's recognised is the hardest thing and I'm not sure I'd want all that palaver even if it happened.
I love trawling through the independent stuff here and finding hidden gems and feeling the privilege of listening to some truly brilliant music - or even the less brilliant that are nuggets of potential and creativity.

But it is the same on here! When people post about their influences and favourite music it is always the Beatles or Neil Young or other total mainstream.

I'm a huge supporter of indie music, have added over 1,000 songs on IAC/imp over the course of a decade, and I like the Beatles.
So??? I've added many of your songs with commentary. Francesca, so young and talented.
Getting out and touring is the way to "make it" in the biz, or maybe if you're a tiny few, get known as a great songwriter, and offer your songs to well knows stahs.
Chandra's right, to say "anything is possible" and have zero (quality) standards is usually a recipe for not much, it takes hard work, devotion, and craft, and hard work, and luck, and faith.
Exorcise away, but also feel the love, life and glory...and be a receiver for the muses, and...lift hearts and minds, or intrigue hearts and minds, or engage hearts and minds with your music. And learn the seductions of a catchy chorus lol...
My 2 cents lol...(God hears, all things remain in God)

I don't think what I said applies to anyone here on the pipeline, all of us indulge in indie music. but I know many who won't even try to get their feet wet.

There is no real battle between indie and pro anymore. We all have access to the same tools. It's just about having the resources to get the word out. The real issue today is that most people prefer hearing amateurs. There is no love for the artist who spends years sitting in a room practicing and getting good.

Yeah, there is the pervasive feeling that music not closely associated with mainstream music is not real music. However, there are subcultures of listeners who prefer only indie or underground (as they tend to cal it) music. Those people consider the mainstream music to be wack music as each hit appears to be a replication of the last hit. However, tapping into the underground set is like trying to find a good vein on a junkie. You know its there but all the static makes it hard to find.

That's an entertainin ' metaphor, Stoneman.
Tastes vary, viva la difference.
When I puzzle over the diversity of choices in music, it reminds me of a physics notion "the great attractor."
Like a flower, to a bee...here's a link to a more technical definition..
3. attractor - a characteristic that provides pleasure and attracts; "flowers are an attractor for bees"
attractive feature, magnet, attracter, attraction
characteristic, feature - a prominent attribute or aspect of something; "the map showed roads and other features"; "generosity is one of his best characteristics"
attention - a general interest that leads people to want to know more; "She was the center of attention"
tourist attraction - a characteristic that attracts tourists
